written by Adam Hussein on 24/05/2008
After handing my original PS2 over to my brother when I got my Xbox a few years ago, I recently decided to get myself the slimline model off Ebay fairly cheap, and I must say that despite some minor faults with it I'm rather happy. I've also got an Xbox 360 which I am selling due to lack of use, quite frankly most of the games for it are too pricey and seem to be aimed at more hardcore gamers. Whereas there are plenty of games for casual gamers like myself on the PS2. I have no reason to spend over £250 or whatever the RRP is for a PS3, given the amount of time I'd probably spend on it. The PS2 suits me perfectly.
Sadly, the graphics aren't exactly mindblowing anymore but they're still very neat. Some of it's top titles such as GTA can be bought really cheap now. The slimline model is a lovely size and weight although I do find it a bit stupid how it doesn't have a main power button. And to top that there still seems to be plenty of life left in the old dog yet, it's stood the test of time well.
That's enough of my rambling anyway. All in all, I would recommend the PS2 to anyone, especially those who aren't serious enough about gaming to fork out for the likes of the PS3. Probably the best console around if you ask me.

I've got it for almost two years and I think I haven't played a better console than this one. It's small, quite cheap, good-looking and you can find loads of games in almost every computer shop. Nowadays, the games are getting almost hard to find, because the new generation consoles have been released, Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3, Xbox 360... and the shops are full of games for these consoles, but there is no problem to find original games on eBay.
It's also quiet and if you have the genuine case for it (it looks almost like cases for notebooks), you can easily take it with you on a vacation.
Of course, it's got weak sites, but they are lot fewer than the good ones.
Two things that bother me about this fellow: the controllers are expensive (in Slovenia, you'll hardly find one below 35€) and it doesn't play movies in DivX format (I use it also for watching movies, otherwise, it wouldn't bother me).

A very good piece of kit! I got mine now about 4 years ago!! But since then it has not once broken or crashed. I haven't had to take it apart or anything. It was the best £300 - £400 I spent (when it was new of course)!!
I still play on the Sony PlayStation 2 games console, even though all my mates have got new Xbox 360's. I love the simplicity of it, and being a Sony you can't beat it for reliability or performance!! I play online with friends and just random people all over the world, and it's great fun (especially blowing peoples heads off on BattleField 2 Modern Combat - love that game)!
Hopefully in the near future, this will be passed on by generations like our much loved Sega MegaDrive 16bit rubbish things. There's no denying, we all had one off our Dad's or Grandad's, or some other distant relation, LOL...
But the point is, no matter how much you tend to hate 2D graphics on Street Fighter, you just can't stop playing with Axel beating people up. Stupid, I know, but it really is true; it's addictive, especially when it crashes (and it often does), and you have to start playing again to get all the way to the end because there isn't a memory card. You can't tell me you wouldn't want a Sega MegaDrive? Surely you can't?... It is a gaming icon!
I hope the PS2 ends up this way, but it will be a better gaming icon for sure!!
So, to all the Sega MegaDrive 16 Bit and Sony PS2 fans out there, keep on gaming people!!!

The PS2 is a great system is a great console and I recommend it to anyone that likes video games and wants a better system than Nintendo 64, Sega, Playstation 1 or any of the older systems.
It has the best selection in games and the grafics aren't bad.
The controllers are easy to use and are the same as the PS1.
I've had super Nintendo, Nintendo 64 and Gamecube.
I like the Playstation 2 better than any that I've had.
I still have the Gamecube but the games are more like
Wallace and Gromit, Winnie the Pooh and stuff like that.
The Gamecube has Mortal Combat and other good games like that but the game is better on PS2.
Plus the games on PS2 are much cheaper.
A game on Gamecube could be $50.00 while the same game on the playstation 2 could be $30.00 to $35.00
I bought my PS2 on ebay, used with 3 games for $110.00
Don't go getting the PS2 system new at Walmart or Target.
It's much cheaper used off the internet.
Same with the games.
A game is a game, it don't matter if it's used or new.
Well... that's my review. Bye

I bought the Sony PlayStation 2 last Christmas (12/04). I saved enough money for it. My dad bought the games for it. I really love the PlayStation2. I won an Xbox at school but I like the PlayStation2 better I think. The PlayStation2 controller I like, but thats me. No complaints about the Xbox though.

The Sony PS2 is the most fun console out there.

I've had a black ps2 for ages and no problems whatsoever. No crashes, no nothing. The range of games is great, what with titles like NFSU2 and GTA San Andreas. Totally recommend buying one, not a new look one as they are not worth it. also makes a fantastic cd player for all you audiophiles out there.
Written on: 14/04/2005
It would make a great cd player if I already didn't have 4! My PS2 broke a while ago so I got one of the new smaller ones and it is so much better. My friend bought a bulky PS2 just before the small ones came out and it already says disk read error.

You gave the graphics a 10? Ok. What are you comaparing them to? Sega Genesis?
written by tinribzzz on 22/02/2004
I had a Black PS2, WARNING:IF YOU DONT LOOK AFTER IT PROPERLY IT WONT
WORK!
So In the end I just got a silver one because my other one broke.
This is the best console EVER!!!!!!!
Better graphics than MICROSOFT Xbox
Better Graphics than NINTENDO GAMECUBE
Better Graphics than NINTENDO GBA SP
And Better Graphics than SONY Playstation 1
written by DaSneakyLilOne on 02/02/2004
The Sony Playstation 2 is definitly worth buying, but soon the PS3 is coming out, so I'll be looking forward to that, I think there isn't much wrong with the PS2, the graphics and gaming are absouletly fabulous!
written by DaSneakyGreek on 28/01/2004
As Soon As I Got My PS2 I Loved It. There Was Nothing Wrong With It Untill It Crashed For The First Time, Only Because My Cd Made It Corrupt, So I Got A Cd Cleaner, And Then It Worked Perfectly Fine After. This Console Is Sweet And The Best, Definitly Buy It, And Definitly Buy The PS3 As Soon As It Comes Out! (In The Making)

The latest model of Sony Playstation 2(PS2)-(SCPH-50003)is very good, it is much quitier, has a built in IR reciever, Can play DVD-RW but the only problem is that it doesnt have a firewire(ie 1394) port...????....why???....because the older model has it but the newer model doesnt....wierd....because newer models are suppost to be improved and should keep the qualities from the old one.

this console is good value for money compared to the x-box, the only advantages over the gamecube this console has is it can play DVD's and CD's, it's advantages over the x-box are that games and accesories are cheaper

I would buy a dreamcast before I would buy the PS2..The dreamcast, in many ways is actually better than sony's Playstation 2. For example, the Dreamcast has twice the amount of graphics memory than the PS2 does..The Dreamcast actually has anti-aliasing(Texture smoothing) and the PS2 doesn't..who would even call it a next-gen console? I don't want to come off sounding like a Dreamcast fan..I don't even own one actually. I do, however, own the best console to date..I probably don't even have to say it's name but for all of you losers who don't know, I'm talking about the X-Box. You people will do anything to defend your little PS2 but the fact is that 99.99999999% of the time it is something that you made up.. the other 0.00000001% of the time its something like "The X-Box is ugly so that's why I didn't buy one"..You losers need to shut the hell up and stop posting on here your made up little stories about the X-Box blowing up if you leave it on for 6 hours (which is not true because my X-Box is on about 10-18 hours a day)."The X-Box has no good games"--this is a pretty common one too..hold on let me clear my throat *cough* HALO *cough* *cough* DOA3 *cough* JSRF *cough* UNREAL CHAMPIONSHIP *cough* MECH ASSAULT *cough*..the list goes on and on..you say that there are more titles for PS2 than there are for X-Box? Thats because the PS2 has been out twice as long as the X-Box has and guess what? at the beginning of 2003 there were 200 games for the PS2..the count for the X-Box was 150..thats 150 games in a year whereas the PS2 only got 100 in a year. The graphics ability of the X-Box is not even a matter to discuss..especially when comparing it to the PS2..X-Box graphics alot of times are better than the most advanced PC graphics and the PS2's graphics can get better than the sega genesis' graphics! *sarcasam* WOW! *sarcasam* you muppets need to just stop trying to compare the PS2 to the X-Box or even the Gamecube(which is also a good console) and buy a X-Box so you won't have to defend your little PS2.

Yea ill jus make a little comment to and about the guy who posted the review i just read....uhh... my ps2 would whoop ur lil x-box playin self. The ps2 has been out twice as long as ur ghetto x-box and the graphics are just as good as any other system on the market the only other system worth buying is the gamecube which has graphics somewhat equal to the ps2 u and all the other x-box players know that the only reason ur system is still on the market is because they keep lowering the price... if u want to spend ur money on somethin spend it on somethin worth buyin...

AceGamer. Read what I said. XBox NEXT(the rumoured name of XBox 2). Compare like with like, generation with generation. Get you head out of the sand and have a play of Brute Force if you want to see a good FPS. Ever played Halo? Have you seen Toca Race Driver on both consoles?
Written on: 25/01/2004
Dreamcast? how can anyone say that the dreamcast is better than Ps2? for a start the PS2 has more graphical power than Dreamcast making games more realistic and the point of the PS2 not having anti aliasing is correct it does not use it because the team at sony have found a way to get rid of jaggies by increasing the vertical resolution. Using proper anti aliasing slows down games. I did have a Dreamcast and MSR is not PS2 standard, how can you say that when the dreamcast can only kick out 1.5 million polygons with all effects on around 3million with them off while the PS2 can kick out 20 million polygons a second with all effects on even the rolling demo of GT3 had 10 million fully shaded polygons in it and it ran smooth no slowdowns. One game I did find the best on Dreamcast though is Virtua Tennis the best tennis game by far. As for the Xbox it may be the most powerful but what use is a powerful games machine if u have rubbish titles to play on it, there is no good games for the Xbox to make anyone go out and buy one. PS2 has vast amount of games majority of them really good games ones you can play over and over as for the Xbox's control pad my hands dont fit on it, I have rather big hands the ps2 controller is perfect for FPS also it has 2 sticks just like the xbox one just in different places on the pads so dont say the xbox pad is better for playing FPS when the ps2 pad can do the same. As for that dude who said xbox will kill ps3 have u read about ps3? Xbox has failed in the uk and in japan and thats a lot of people NOT buying xbox. PS2 rules!!!!!!!!! P.S ever tried playing online games thru a 33.6kbps modem the lag is unbelievable. Broadband is the way to go.

Just 'cos it sold a lot doesn't mean it's any good. The Titanic was sold out!
XBox "huge" controller is much better once you're used to it. I have a Controller S too (the one they sell with them all now) and I think it's too small and the PS2 controller.....surely I don't need to say any more. XBox's fits in your hand better than the PS2's too.
I suggest you have a go at Halo or Brute Force. I love GT, don't get me wrong. Just think how good it could be on a console that could cope. Look at Race Driver. How many features do you Sony sheep miss out on? For what?
You're right though, the PS 2 has more well known titles than the XBox, so it should, it's been going for longer and has a pre brainwashed following.
PS1 was good in it's day, PS2 didn't have many days to be good in but was. XBox wiped the floor with all of 'em.
XBox Next will kill PS3!

My first point is you gave the PS2 10 out of ten all round??? why?? it seems like you hate it???
What is up with the xbox controllers???? They're HUGE. They also have about 2000 buttons? whats the point?? u need about 500 buttons just to shoot? god that would make you v.special. And since when are the xbox games better than the ps2? we have gta3, vice city, GT3(which un-arguably is the best driving game EVER),tony hawks(the best sport games EVER). Also i aint got nothin against the game cube but doesnt anyone find the games are made for 5-10year olds???
So what if your xbox has better graaphics but id rather have a console that doesnt chatter cameras and it would be more usefull if it could fit through my doorway.
The PS2 is the biggest selling console AND it sold almost 3 times more in 2003 than the xbox.
The PS2 is the best. FULLSTOP

WHAT!

The Xbox has horrible controller. Your out of your mind! The Xbox has ace controllers not like the little ps2 controllers the're rubbish. My hands are far 2 big for the PS2 controllers also the Xbox controllers are perfect for FPS Games

Well I own a Dreamcast and a ton of games for it, I've considered buying XBOX PS2 or GC at one time or another and keep thinking whats the point, OK so the graphics are probably a bit better on those systems, but not that much, in fact games like Jet Set Radio (I think it's called Jet Grind Radio in the US)and MSR are easily PS2 standard. Over here you can buy one of the many amazing Dreamcast games off the net for anywhere from £2 to £8 and all the other systems games are a hell of a lot more, as for arguing about which one is better, as far as I can see there isn't a lot in it. The Xbox has a has a horrible controller, the GC has too many kiddie games and the PS2 is too slow...So forget about all of them and get a Dreamcast for next to nothing and await PS3 etc!

well this guy has some good points! and the guy who responded is just a PS2 fan boy straight out! I own a PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, Pc, Gba sp. need i say more? while the ps2 has some good games its getting a bit out dated...the xbox boasts fantastic graphics and some fine games...and the gamecube is the one i use most cause i like the games on it better than any of the others, its tiny its got great games such as zelda, metroid, smash bros, mario sunshine, need i say more? the ps2 has some very good games! GTS III, vice city, FFX, but it just seems like its getting old! and whenever theres a new multi format game i would rather get it for the xbox or gamecube cause the ps2 freezes when being used for AGES which i play for AGES so i should know!, and it blows RED HOT AIR!, its not got as good graphics as the others and the controller is kinda uncomfy, where as if i get the game for the gamecube it loads much faster and better graphics! doesnt freeze! 4 player without having to get a special adapter!, the same thing with the xbox, better graphics although much more powerful than the other 2 systems it seems pretty much same as gamecube! exept about 4 times bigger, oh and the ps2 seems to have a problem with the lense and stops reading discs properly, which i think i will have to buy a disc cleaner for it now! (sigh) the good thing is that the ps2 has a dvd player you can use straight away and the xbox you have to pay £20 for a remote...the gamecube doesnt play dvds but it is after all called a GAMES CONSOLE, not a dvd and games console, the ps2's online system seems poor next to xbox whitch boasts voice chat and while gamecube only has one online game so far its a very very good game! oh and one more thing...you said the dreamcast graphics are more powerful than ps2, you are right and wrong, the dreamcast (which i own and think is cool!)has a 160Mhz graphics processor while ps2 has a 148Mhz graphics chip! but...the ps2 has 16 MB video ram while dreamcast has only 8 MB V ram...still the ps2 has better graphics than dreamcast but the thing is while the ps2 has got some briliant games the dreamcast has more GOOD games! and the dreamcast has online gaming thats actualy good and you could browse the internet with it!!! i end this comment by saying if you want online gaming get an xbox! if you want quantity over quality get a ps2, and if you want the most fun get a gamecube! which i recomend!

PS2 is one of the best systems that i have ever played.
written by Andy?. on 27/11/2002
At first I was not eager about the PS2. The release titles were not too stellar (Red Faction and Kessen are great, the rest were decent to bad), and since I had never owned the original PS I was unknowlegeable about its vast library of games. It was not until I started going through the PS-X titles that I wanted a PS2, and even then it was more for the DVD player and PS-X games. As more and more games started to come out though I decided that I would definitely get one, and it was a good choice. You can talk about hardware and power all you want, but what it all boils down to when it comes to consoles is the quality of the games. Final Fantasy X, Red Faction and Zone of the Enders are just a few of the great games this system has to offer and there are dozens of the "decent" to "good" range to occupy time as well. If you include all the PS-X games into the mix as well, then there are hundreds, probably thousands of games, chances of not finding any that you enjoy is not likely a all. Well I just slapped this review together before class, which is starting now. Anyway PS2 is great, not like my review!

To tell you the truth I've always thought of the Sony Playstations to always come out on top of all the competition. Plus I know Nintendo is a strong compeditor and Microsoft is well... Microsoft... but in my opinion the PS2's graphics, gameplay and the wide choice of games takes it all. i respect the Gamecube and very little respect for the Xbox but PS2 in my heart is the number 1 system out there and will dominate all, yet i'm clearly awaiting the PS3 in '05 :)

The PS2 games console first came into Japan and stormed it. People were waiting for days just to get one. The PS2 delivers a powerful experience with a 128bit 300MHz CPU and a 130bit 150MHz CPU. The PS2 can produce effects like no other console. The Systems Emotion engine actually makes the games "think"!
Imagine this...you get home from work and sit down to a cup of java. You have a Video Email from your boss and an email from an old friend wondering if you and him should meet in a town over the net in FF11. After that you get another mail from your co-worker wondering if you and him should play Quake 3 just to calm the day's stresses! So you place your bosses image on the monsters in quake 3 and you and your co-worker get a blastin... This is what the PS2 can do..
Not even the almighty X-Box has a chance
Written on: 11/03/2003
What was that? X-box can't compare? You little fanboys need to face it that playstation 2 was the best console for 1 year..their superiority ended when the X-box came out. Oh wow a Intel 250 MHz processor!!!!????..that doesn't seem to compare to the X-box's 733 MHz processor does it?..lmao, Gamecube has a 500 MHz processor which is twice as fast as the PS2's. The X-box's video card processor is as fast as the PS2's main processor. Your gay-ass PS2 doesn't even support anti-aliasing! Dreamcast has anti-aliasing why wouldn't the dumbasses at Sony put it on the PS2. WOAH! THE MEMORY CARDS ONLY COST $30 each?! Well guess what, the X-box doesn't even need memory cards if that's all you use the huge 8 Gigabyte hard drive for. You can also rip music onto the hard drive and listen to your favorite music WHILE PLAYING GAMES. WOW THE VIDEO CARD IS MADE BY SONY?!?! The X-box's card is a custom card made by nVidia..whos nVidia you say? Only the top developer in video cards..
-------------------------------------------------
Dumbasses like the guy who wrote this review need to shut the hell up and sell their PS2 and buy an X-box which is probably what they really want to do anyways but their parents won't let them...I probably missed alot of ways how X-box is better than PS2 so go read the professional X-box reviews to get the rest of the facts.

Ps2 was made 2 years befored the Xbox and still crashes Xbox on graphics and other things.
The truth is that Xbox have a PC inside with some little modifications, it has a Pentium III processor inside with +/-733Mhz, and Ps2 has a GS processor with +/-294Mhz, but those processors are used in different ways, and as everybody expected, the Microsoft console uses its processor in the same way as a PC processor, what really brings down its quality, and Ps2 even having only 294mhz, those mhz are used more effectively, which is what makes PS2 the best 128bit console of all. SONY RULES!!!!!!, Microsoft, keep doing pcs and windows, leave the console world to someone that can do a good job and make the price of the console be worth it!!

The ps2 has an intel 250Mhz processor does it? strange mine has a 295Mhz emotion engine....and the fantastic gamecube isnt 500Mhz its got a 485Mhz power pc prpcessor

you say these are the things the ps2 can do...well why doesnt it do it? and FFXI sucks! i own all 3 consoles and i dont realy use my ps2 that much! the xbox has voice comunication why cant be beaten and the ps2 online sucks!!! the gamecube only has 1 online game but its gr8 so there! i dont care what all you zealots say i hope all three consoles do well cause xbox live seems to be kicking the poo out of the ps2 and if it dies off i will be upset cause the fantastic dreamcast went down that street!

This is one of the great consoles and the main let was the graphics on some games, the console was great in its time and as a gamer I was very happy with it, the range of games was great but it ran a little too long and should have been updated as soon as the Xbox was released.
