If you sleep on the kitchen floor you might like this mattress, tryed to return as part of trial only one firmness available so partner couldn’t make a dent in it asked for return and still waiting despite endless calls and emails, have tryed other mattresses with no problem at all but ergoflex has customer suppport that think they run the company.

“Poor Mattress ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 290Slaughter on 18/06/2019

Mattress split down the middle and their suggestion is its the slats, a total waste of time basically they hide behind T&C'S poor service. Offered a replacement for another £360 however I have purchased 2 mattresses and pillows from them with no issue and the one issue I have they ignore. The Support clearly looks for ways not to pay so its unhelpful, poor quality mattress, poor resolution, uncomfy mattress UK. I understand T&C'S exist for companies but my opinion is this is poor

Dear Mr Hobson,
I’m sorry that we are unable to provide you with a free-of-charge replacement mattress in this scenario. As discussed, we believe the damage has been caused by the mattress being used on a bed base that we specifically advise against. In this case the slats on the base you have been using, as documented in the photos you have kindly provided, are 14cm/5.5” apart. This is nearly double the recommended maximum gap for this type of mattress, as it simply cannot provide the supportive surface required to avoid this issue occurring. Our guidance information for appropriate bed bases is available across the Ergoflex website (FAQs, Guarantee, T&C) as well as the installation booklet that comes with the mattress itself. Unsuitable bed bases, like the one you have been using, are referenced as potentially voiding the warranty, as we are aware it can lead to issues such as the one you have experienced. We understand and deeply regret that this isn’t the resolution you were hoping for, and we’re extremely disappointed when a customer has anything less than a positive experience with our products and customer service. However, as a company we are not able to honour a warranty claim that has arisen not from material or workmanship failure, but misuse of the mattress against our clear advice.

Sounds like the 'support' I received.
I was sent a list of tasks I had to complete so I could send photos of the mattress in various positions.
The mattress on one side, the other then off the base, standing it on one side then the other. With the cover on then with the cover off. As the mattress has no handles this is an almost impossible task, even for a fit and healthy 30 Yr old (son in law) and absolutely impossible for a 75 Yr old. (Me) I had to pay someone to take it up the stairs when I bought it and have had to get someone in to rotate it on a regular basis. The pre sales advertising doesn't mention any of this.
It seems that the guarantee is a nit-picking document that has a get out clause that covers everything except the fact that becomes extremely uncomfortable after a few years. Pity Monty Python are no longer viable- they could have made a brilliant sketch on the guarantee- a contractual agreement originally designed to protect the customer but in the case of Ergoflex used as a shield to deflect any proper customer service.

“ returns policy and refund”

written by Waynejones on 02/01/2019

Purchased mattress from ergoflex, tried for 20 days on the trial. Found it to be unsuitable for us. Very hot, uncomftable through night. Requested a return. Took So long to be collected, as they do not collect from you, they use different collection methods, then had to wait for refund. After a number of calls and emails to ergo flex. Customer service was ok. Finally got it sorted out Would not recommend or use again.

“Backache”

★☆☆☆☆

written by cocochops on 01/10/2016

We slept on a Tempur mattress for 15 years and it had come to the end of it's life and although it had been the best mattress we had ever slept on i didn't want spend a fortune on a new one.So after looking on the internet and doing some research i decided on the Ergoflex. We have had it now for 5 months and we are both getting lower back pain.I get up with back ache in the morning and after a while my backache disappears only to return during the night so clearly it's the mattress.I'm so fed up with backache i have ordered another Tempur and the Ergoflex is going on Ebay. These two mattresses are no where near the same as Ergoflex would have you believe and i do feel that i've been tricked.

“Completely screw up!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by BaileyWilson5 on 24/11/2015

One day, I received an invitation to do an online survey of Ergoflex. At the end of the survey, it gives you £75 discount code off on each mattress purchased. So, I went ahead to buy a superking size and a double mattress. But Ergoflex online system didn’t work with the code when you ordered more than 1 mattress, therefore I have to put one order online and the other mattress order by phone. Everything went well and credit card payment on both mattresses were debited straight away. Suddenly, two days later, the day before the mattresses were due to deliver to me, I got an e-mail saying they had cancelled one of my orders. Reason being was the discount code could not be used more than once. I spent the whole day over the phone explaining to the sale team at Ergoflex that the £75 discount code is for each mattress purchased (as clearly written at Ergoflex automated e-mail when completing the survey). I couldn't believe that nobody in Ergoflex would do the due diligence to investigate their own online survey (which takes less than 2 mins to do). Instead, Ergoflex took the absurd approach to cancel my order, on the day before the delivery due to take place, which gives you no time to arrange an alternative plan. Anyway, a long story cut short, my order and schedule got completely messed up. As a result, my family has no mattress to sleep, as well as extra time off from work is required to wait for another delivery. I seriously would not recommend Ergoflex to any of my friends, relatives and family. Their service is extremely unreliable.

“disastrous purchase”

★☆☆☆☆

written by jacdug on 04/08/2015

Bought this mattress last August 2014 and stopped using it christmas 2014 (yep couldn't face christmas being woken up at 4 am with aching back). We switched from a pocket sprung to this and it was pretty disastrous. Both of us (in our 30's) experienced persistent back pain whilst using this mattress. I gave it the benefit of the doubt (4 months!) with no improvement. To it's credit it is initially very comfy but throughout the night it becomes what I can only describe as an austere foam slab! I complained but well outside of Ergoflex's two week returns policy - and rather than simply accepting that I was having a bad experience with it they issued me with a long interrogative list as to the condition of my bed frame, could I take photos, did I use a mattress protector as this interfered with the mattress's thermic properties. I thought this was a bit much, considering I'd spent £400 on sleep misery. Anyway I requested a refund which they declined (in fact they went as far as suggesting we might be too heavy for it). We bought a pocket sprung and haven't looked back. Was our back pain caused by the Ergoflex? I think we'll never answer that question however it's claim to help existing back pain sufferers is highly spurious! I write this because it is our spare mattress and a year on from purchase we have guests so I am sleeping on it. Surprise! I find myself with backache again! Suggest you make your decision very quickly if you decide to purchase and better still check the returns policy. A friend had a similar experience with another company but they took it back, no problem.

“One of the worst things I have bought”

★☆☆☆☆

written by salsarudeboy on 12/07/2015

When I intially recieved my mattress I was pleased. However after 18 months I discovered a multitude of sins. The memory foam began to go out of shape. This is because the memory foam is put together with several pieces like a jigsaw. This is not mentioned when you buy their product. The cotten cover which keeps it together is of inferior quality so tears easily. Thus when the foam is exposed it starts to disintengrate and spreads all over your bedroom. I bought the mattress late 2011. Now I have to buy a new mattress. Please do not buy their products.

“Moving memory foam mattress”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Snowmaiden on 05/10/2014

We purchased two of these mattresses and I can honestly say it is one of the worse purchases I have ever made. The mattress moves by about 4" a week. Due to the weight and no grips it is virtually impossible to lift back, we are in our 70's, so you have to drag back into place. If you use a valance that then ends up on one side of the bed !!! Phoned CS and told to put towels under the mattress, again not easy due to the weight. . Sadly this has not wholly resolved the problem does not move quite as much but still needs pulling into place, bringing the towels with it. Contacted CS again received the answer nothing they can do !!!! Having spent £1000 I would have thought there should be something that could be done. Possibly send two different covers. If they cannot fo anything I can for as far as I am concerned this product is not fit for purpose !!!! I await comments

“REGRET THIS PURCHASE”

★☆☆☆☆

written by PattiPatti on 12/08/2014

I bought a single Ergoflex mattress for my husband who had recently had a stroke. He was starting to get a pressure sore on his heel and found the high risk mattress provided to go with his hospital bed too hard and uncomfortable. I saw the adverts for Ergoflex mattresses and thought one of these would be absolutely ideal for him. Unfortunately it was terribly uncomfortable. He has tried it twice, on two separate occasions for a couple of weeks each time. Both times It caused him to have bad back pains and his pressure sore got worse. I wish I had not bought this mattress and would like to be able to give it back for a refund. Think hard before you buy one!!!! I would not agree that it is medium to firm. I would definitely call it firm. Had I been aware of this I would not have bought it for my husband.

If you put it on a platform base or on fixed slats then it will feel firmer. It's the same for all mattresses.

“Really disappointing experience - allergy sufferers...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SNEEZYandGRUMPY on 11/05/2013

I bought this mattress because I had read on the Ergoflex website about its advantages for allergy sufferers and for back pain sufferers. I have a broken spine and both my wife and I suffer from allergies to household dust and chemicals. The pre-purchase customer support was very good and the product delivery was very speedy. However, that is where the good news ended. The mattress had an absolutely dreadful and very strong chemical smell and this resulted in immediate allergic reactions from both my wife and me. If you search long and hard on the Ergoflex website you will find that this "a little unpleasant" smell should disappear in "a short period of time". The instructions that came with the mattress said the "unpleasant smell ... will dissipate quickly" and that washing of the outer cover would help deal with the problem. We duly washed the cover but the exposed mattress made the smell even worse. The room was thoroughly aired by closing the door and opening the window (and allowing the 2 degrees outside temperature that prevailed at that time - early April - to enter). After three days of constant airing and the room (and en suite bathroom) resembling a freezer and the smell remained as strong as ever, I made an enquiry to Ergoflex as to how, if possible, to resolve this issue. I was told to put a bowl of vinegar and water in the room to soak up the smell and to walk or kneel on the whole mattress to force the trapped air out. We did these things but with no improvement to the smell. During all of this period, my wife and I were forced to sleep on the floor of a spare room as we have no other bed and our bedroom and en suite bathroom had become a "no go" zone due to the smell and cold temperature. I then contacted Ergoflex again to tell them that none of their solutions had worked and a week had now gone by and that I needed urgent action taken to allow my life to return to normal by removing their faulty (or unacceptable) quality product. [Incidentally, throughout all of my dialogues with Ergoflex, they seemed totally unconcerned about the impact on our lives that their product had created.] I found it very hard to speak to a decision-maker without having to resort to having a "hissy fit". When I did get through, I got lots of technical gobbledegook but eventually got them to agree to a collection and refund, subject to the problem still occurring when we returned from a short trip away from home. On returning, the smell had not improved (and, by now, it was two weeks after delivery of it so so much for dissipating quickly!!) so I contacted them to arrange for an immediate collection. Their attitude appeared to be "we'll deal with it in our pace and in our way". They wanted me (with my broken spine) to wrap the mattress and carry it to the street level of my apartment building for collection as they were only able to use a one-man pick-up service who were not insured for health & safety reasons to handle the mattress!!! After strong rebuffing by me of this absurd requirement, they eventually and reluctantly agreed to send a two-man team who would wrap and collect the mattress from my flat. Almost three weeks after taking delivery, the mattress was collected and my home was able to return to normal. It then took a further week before they would agree to process the refund only when the mattress had been returned to them by the collection company. So, overall, a really bad experience from both the product and the company selling it. I wish I could comment about the performance of the bed itself but I never got to sleep on it!

The amount of whinging in this review is incredible. The smell isn't as bad as it's being made out to be and goes away after a few weeks. It's certainly not bad enough to force anyone out of their bedroom and to sleep on the floor of another room as this "reviewer" is claiming. Ridiculous review.

I also find it odd that someone with known allergies to chemicals would buy a mattress made almost entirely out of chemicals. Especially when there are alternatives available with almost no chemicals, such as 100% natural latex mattresses.

written by JuanitaGr on 10/06/2012

Iwas suffering from lower back pain for a few months, looked at reviews for tempur mattresses and ergo flex, and due to the cost decided to purchase the ergo flex mattress. I still have lower back pain and wake up at all times of the night with pain, my husband also now is suffering from lower back pain. Once we are out of bed after about 30 mins we are okay, so must be the mattress. Now 6 months after the very expensive purchase of over £500 I am purchasing another mattress !!!

“Ergoflex memory foam mattress - I can't understand it!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KathyS on 11/10/2011

I really can't understand all the 5 star reviews. I am *extremely* disappointed with this mattress - Ergoflex memory foam Standard double. I have had a knee replacement and although I couldn't really afford it - in fact I had to borrow in order to buy it - I felt I had to have it to try and alleviate the backache I started to have since the operation. I researched, read all the reviews and settled on this one as it was on sale. These mattresses have been 'on sale' for months. Every time I asked when the sale was going to finish the question was evaded which makes me feel rather cheated. The service after emailing and phoning was very good though - prompt and polite. As to the mattress it doesn't give support at all and my backache is, if anything, worse. It is far too soft particularly at the edge. When I swivel to get out of bed and prepare to push myself upright I slide right off the edge and the same sliding happens when I get into bed. Very disconcerting with an injured leg and when I sit up in bed to read I feel as though I'm going to roll off. I found the smell neither pleasant nor unpleasant and it soon disappeared. I slept on it straight away and it didn't bother me. I bitterly regret expending this amount of money and wish I had just stuck with my Dunlopillo latex mattress which is extremely comfortable and supportive. If I could afford it I would have bought a Tempur mattress as friends have them and are very pleased with them. I bought this for the cost after reading such glowing reviews. Sadly I obviously would not recommend buying one of these and would advise anyone to save up for a Tempur.

I forgot to say in my review that you can't use an electric blanket either with these mattresses. Another reason to go back to my Dunlopillo.

I completely agree... I only put the mattress on last night! I didnt want this, my husband did for his backache, something I did not have until today!!! I got no sleep, tossed and turned, couldnt get comfy and now I have sore hips and a sore back!!! I had an expensive sealy mattress already and it was only 3 years old. My husband believes this is the reason that his back is sore! Well if it is, I cant wait to see how worse it is after sleeping on the ergoflex!!! Yes, it feels nice before you lie down on it... but after that, well, my experience isnt good. I have the old mattress in the hall and will end up sleeping on that tonight. With 2 young children, no sleep and bad sleep isnt an option!!! I certainly wouldnt give this a 5star, yes, it got here quickly. Today thought, I wish it hadnt. I am tempted to send it back but not sure if you can and get the tempur he originally wanted!!! He only bought this as the reviews were so good and thought it would be just as good as the tempur! Well I can say, it is not!! Would not recommend this if you have a bad back! I also feel the mattress isnt good at the edges! I felt that I had to sleep in the middle to get any support. Not a happy customer!

Appalling delivery service. Waited in all day for delivery. No one turned up, no phone call, nothing. Telephoned Ergoflex, who said driver could not find our address. The driver had the use of a Tom Tom, but for some unknown reason, did not use it. What a load of rubbish. Item finally arrived at 5.30pm on the second day. When I telephoned Ergoflex and asked for a refund of the delivery cost, they refused and said it is not their policy to refund. Dreadful customer service. Waited in for 2 days.

Attracted by the good reviews of this mattress initially, but found it is really a big disappointment.

My husband always complained that he feels sore in the morning after sleep. Whenever we visit others, we always get a lot better sleep.

We had this for 3 years now, I recently had difficulties to fall asleep in this mattress and also feel sore all over the body in the morning.

We are going to get rid of it for good!

We have had our mattress two weeks now. Kept it in a well aired room, kneeled on it every day as recommended by Ergoflex and still it really reeks. I slept on it last night for the very first time. Comfortable it may be but I, my night clothes, my bedding and pillows all now need washing as they now all smell dreadful. Do not buy this product if you have kind of sense of smell unless the company changes it ways and pre-airs it or something? The smell is truly disgusting.

All memory foam products suffer from this smell its to do with the fire retarding chemicals.
<br/>
<br/>Its not permanent and does lessen over time and is gone within a few weeks. If you can't bear the smell then I'd suggest no memory foam mattress will be suitable.

Having suffered from an aching back since having an operation 24 years ago, I have found the Ergoflex memory foam mattress to be the only mattress to ease the problem and certainly not make it worse. An ergoflex mattress is not cheap but, in my opinion, worth the investment for an improved night's sleep. The mattress is medium firm but the memory foam moulds to your body shape giving extra support thereby creating a "firmer" feel. Hope this helps

They are very good mattresses, but I wouldn't say they have that sinking feeling you are looking for. That said, I use another sheet on top of the mattress cover so that makes it less "sinky". Not overly firm, but enough to give good back support. I haven't tried other brands to compare against, this was my first memory foam type. Had it about seven years now, and will probably replace it with the same when the time comes.

I think the memory foam mattresses are all the same. Yes, they can be hot. However, as you know, they are also very comfortable. I recommend using a cotton mattress protector, as this helps at least a little.

Not in our experience!

We have not experienced this with our mattress, but I understand there are mattresses out there that have a cooling gel that is supposed to help regulate your temperature.

It doesn't seem hot to me but I am a cold person! It is cooler than our last one if that helps.

Ergoflex mattresses are really good for that, we find. Some memory foam mattresses are worse than others in that respect, e.g. some Tempur mattresses (especially older models) - you sink, you simply can't turn over easily; it's almost like smothering, so you can get really hot. I bought an Ergoflex mattress for my mum, who lives in the South of France, is slightly plump, and is continuously hot (think about someone who opens windows in the office in winter!), and she's delighted with it - not feeling hot at all. When we use it when we visit (in the summer), we find that it's excellent too: its surface resilience means that it gives enough support without you sinking into it and heating up! (And the Cool-Sleep Airflow System probably helps too.) If you have an existing memory foam mattress in which you feel hot, it could be because of its foam density, or its age (they will eventually sag), or its incompatibility with your own size/weight (just a fact - I'm not judging). The solution there could be a cotton protector, which will help to make you sink less anyway, but it's much better to go for a special cover like Coolmax or Outlast (I've used both and find Outlast definitively more effective). Combine cotton and Outlast if necessary, but remember that the more stiff stuff (e.g. cotton protector) between you and the mattress also means that the "memory" effect will take longer to work, since it works with your body heat too!

I have had no problems with 'hotness'

Hi, I have had this mattress for the last 5 years and have not found it makes me hot, and I am menopausal!
Report this content bizzymiz Written on: 06/12/2014
I find they are warm, which I like especially in winter. Our Ergoflex mattresses came with a coolmax wicking cover helps in summer.
Report this content M-Lopes Written on: 07/12/2014
I don't think it is hot for me but each person is different. The warmth helps with poor blood circulation in my back as my lower back is always cold. My partner however finds it a bit warm sometimes though we both agree it is perfect in the winter. We use only a 10 tog duvet by the way. Don't think we need moore. In the summer we use only a thin blanket to and we always use a mattress protector as mentioned elsewhere here. Hope that helps.

Yes I think they do. I'm feel comfortable, but my partner alwalways complaining, that this mattresses make him very hot and sweaty.

Hi It doesn't make me hotter at all. I still have a quilt and throw on my bed. It is no different to any other mattress. Best mattress ever though! It's like sleeping on air. So comfy. I have two. One for my guests as well as my own! Go for it!

I am considering a new mattress, I have back problems but cannot afford a new Tempur. I am considering a possible second hand one (shop display etc) from eBay. Would you buy Tempur or Ergoflex? It's a lot of money to shell out and I just don't want to make a mistake as I haven't lay on either of them. Cheers

I can't comment on Tempur mattresses but have been totally happy with the Ergoflex we purchased. My advice would be to go a shop and try them out - it is a very individual choice. I would say the Ergoflex is definitely medium to firm as described - there is no body imprint when you get up. Hope this helps.

We purchased Ergoflex mattress 1,5 years ago. The decission was based on very good- almost too fabulous to believe - reviews. We have found out that the mattress is not very special in any way. We had to buy very expensive topper(not from the same company) to make it suitable for us. I really believe that the success is based on really clever marketing more than on the product itself.

I can't comment on Tempur either. However I will say that my Ergoflex is the most comfy bed and pillows I have ever had and the service when purchasing was absolutely brilliant. The only problem I have had with the mattress is that when I went to flip it (I know you don't have to but I did) I noticed a big patch of mould on the mattress. Initially Ergoflex were great and answered my emails about it but after requesting photos (which I sent early January 14) I never heard back from Ergoflex - which is massively dissappointing. My house is a normal terraced property which was fully gutted and renovated 3 years ago prior to purchase of the bed, along with double glazing put and insulation (again proof provided to company) and I sleep all weathers with a bit of window open. Apparently, I am not alone in this but its also not that common. Gutted is the best way to describe. So review is amazing product however if you have a problem you are on your own.

We are delighted with Ergoflex - it has made a huge difference. I have no experience with Tempur so can't do any comparison

I have had back problems for many years. I was in the same position in trying to decide between the two, but I decided on the Ergoflex type, three years ago. it has proved to be very effective in easing my back problem, the only possible down side being that it may be too firm for some.

Good value for money provided you buy at the right time (discounts vary). I agree with other reviewers that Ergoflex mattresses are on the firm side of memory foam but I have found that it works for me. Obviously the best option is to try before buying and here Tempur wins. But for that and for their advertising budget you pay a very hefty price indeed.

Never had a tempur.I've had an Ergoflex for two years i'm happy. Just look on Ergoflex site and you can get a double for £400 in the sale

We like yourself considered a Tempur mattress, but after reading all the great reviews about Ergoflex we decided to buy one. We have never regretted this decision. After two years the mattress is still as good as when we first purchased it, and backache in a morning is a thing of the past.

Like others I cannot comment on the Tempur mattress. However I have bought 3 Ergoflex mattresses over the last 7/8 years and they have been a revelation. I really do not have a bad word to say about them, I would buy with confidence and I would have no hesitation in buying another and I wouldn't even look at alternatives. My parents stayed over a few times and they have a Tempur mattress at home and my mum swears that the Ergoflex she sleeps on at mine is cooler to sleep on than the Tempur, that's the only insight I would offer you. I can't believe you could do better than the Ergoflex though.

I had back problems especially after sleeping. I bought an Ergoflex on a friends recommendation and have had no back problems since. I've since had 3 shoulder operations and get all the support I need. My son bought an Ergoflex mattress and I bought my daughter one. We all love them. My wife also uses the pillow. I bought a Tempur pillow before we got Ergoflex and the Ergoflex pillow is just as good. I haven't tried a Tempur so cannot comment however, based on price and comfort, I wouldn't change from an Ergoflex. As already stated in other reviews choosing a mattress is personal so if you can, try a Tempur, otherwise, take the plunge and buy the Ergoflex and save yourself a load of money.

I've owned 2 Tempur mattresses as well as a couple of Ergoflex. I slept really good on both of them. I've been very happy with my Ergoflex and I see no reason to pay more money for the Tempur. But try them both out and see if you can tell the difference. I couldn't justify the price difference.

Hi I would recommend ERGOFLEX. I currently have one having bought it to replace a Tempur mattress that I could not get on with ( had it a couple of months). I get the most comfort from this mattress over any other. I suffer from back & leg pain due to having had 2 discs removed and a spinal fusion. I found that I could not turn over on the Tempur and it did not provide comfortable support for my back. ERGOFLEX for me is far superior. Good luck

Although I am very pleased with the Ergoflex mattress I bought about a year ago, in retrospect I wish I had saved up and gone for the Tempur as I have never seen a bad review and friends who have got one rave about the quality. If you can get a shop display Tempur mattress on eBay then go for it!

I tried Tempur, for 1 night, at my friends and it was very, very comfortable- no aches or pains even after a night out dancing. I decided to buy memory foam after that but didn't want to spend the 100's needed for a Tempur one. I bought a double Ergoflex memory foam mattress and love it. I have good sleep and wake up feeling refreshed. I bought one for my daughter. My bloke bought one too, after trying mine. I have a single in the spare room for appreciative guests. Yep, I can recommend Ergoflex as being good value and helping relaxed sleep. After 3 years there are signs of wear as it has lost some of the initial firmness but I remain satisfied. I feel the difference after sleeping on normal mattresses when I wake up with aching shoulder and hip joints. N.B. It does need a good old airing before use and a supportive base, with small gaps if slatted.

Buy Ergoflex - you really won't be disappointed, and they are really excellent value; but if you are disappointed, or if there's a problem, you can return it within 14 days - look for "Returns".

I've had a night on a tempur and now the happy owner of an ergoflex, since 2011. I would say the tempur is best but with regards to finances I went for ergoflex which enables a great night sleep for me. I would recommend it for anyone on a budget. But, like one answer states, it is a personal thing, so trial first.

My sister has a Tempur and said my Ergoflex is just as comfy at half the price!
