AMAZING. Great piece of software, very simple to use a, five year old could use it. The previous reviews mention crashed but personally after using it for over a year I have never found any problems with it.

Like - Simplicity, variety of transitions, variety of file formats.
Disliked - Nothing all good.

“The Cyberlink Power Director 6 software continually...”

★★☆☆☆

The Cyberlink Power Director 6 software continually freezes and refuses to replay edits smoothly. Granted, this could be thanks to Bill Gates wonderful operating system called Vista [/sarcasm] but then again, it could also be this particular piece of software. When it does work, it seems to have a number of features but it's almost impossible to edit anything long enough to see the results.

Constantly freezes the screen and then has this overlapping effect of pictures and videos in the timeline which makes it impossible to edit a single picture or video. No service representatives availalbe to speak to about problems unless you want to pay a $30 fee for this service. Otherwise yo have to email your questions in and then wait for hours or days for what may or may not be the solution.

Fast, has it all.
The best video editing software I've found yet, better than roxio easy media creator, premiere pro, windows movie maker and vegas.

“Quite happy with my Serif movie plus 5 until I got a...”

written by oldbod on 14/07/2007

Quite happy with my Serif movie plus 5 until I got a Everio G camera the other week. This produces MOD files (MPEG2) and Serif could not be sure if they would run on their software. So downloaded trial of software that comes with Everio (cut down version though) as it seems to be almost Hobsons choice apart from two others for using this type of file before buying camera. Bit dubious as lots of references to 'magic' this, that and the other, always an off-putting term in UK as smacks of something a bit below par. Not so though as the 'magic' clean for lighting and sound is great, good for the dreaded wind noise, takes all the guess work out of everything and gets it right, really useful adjustments on everything and compares before and after. Imports/captures just about everything and fantastic range of outputs, not a geeky term in sight and quick to pick up. Anyone who owns video editing software will know that when first used there is a steep learning curve, so you learn (most/some) of it then perhaps have no need to do any editing for a while, when you get back to it you have to hit the book again. This won't be the case with Cyberlink Power Director 6 though as I have only just started reading the instructions really as a matter of interest, this after producing two movies and restoring my very poor wedding video taken some thirty five years ago on film, this is the first ever software out of many I have been able to do this with and all with a couple clicks, really. The cut down version that comes with the camera don't cut the mustard if it's hobby but will suffice if you just want to get the job done. Why I asked myself for such a simple interface did it take so long on broadband to download, well it soon becomes apparent as there is a lot in the background but it is so simple to access. A really must try program and top of top ten reviews. As to the camera, I had read a lot on this format not being as good as tape, but each time you start up the camera you get a new file, no scene detection but rather a series of joined files which really is no different and they can be split, transitions put in, moved around, audio extracted etc just the same as tape, no different at all apart from the MPEG" file is one quarter the size of AVI and no noticeable difference in quality, plus no tapes or discs to carry round or buy and days of storage of both video and 6 MB stills (mg-mz575) small and only one camera to carry round. Software also loads media from your (own) DVDs. Could go on for hours but wish I had tried the trial years ago.

Mpryor's Response to oldbod's Review

I must be a techno-geek, because I cannot figure out the instructions that came with Power Director 6. If Oldbod or anyone else can decipher the .pdf booklet, please comment me.
