The Philips Dvp3120 Is A Good Basic Machine With M

The Philips DVP3120 is a good basic machine with multi-region capability after applying a hack code but it died after 3 years and I had hardly used it. Others have written reviews stating that it died after one year--they probably used it more often. It was cheap and I basically got what I paid for--as with any cheap appliance. Doesn't last that long.

Generally Pleased With The Philips Dvp3120 Player,

Generally pleased with the Philips DVP3120 player, given the cost.See earlier review for multi-region hack (to summarise: open disc tray, go to Setup -> Preferences, type 138931 on remote, select region (0 for region-free), press 'OK')Would have liked to be able to bookmark a few disc locations, or at least have the player remember the position on the current disc after switching to standby (or ideally after powering off completely) part-way through a film (e.g. to continue watching the following evening). It is, however, possible to time in a time in hours/minutes and have the player jump straight to that point. There's no audio compression mode (aka 'late night' mode) to even out the volume of the quiet/loud parts of a film.A previous reviewer commented on the remote being unresponsive. I've not had that problem - seems good and responsive to me, and the remote is fairly well laid out.

Returned it as it did not do what it said in the spec. I expected much better of Philips.

I Have Just Bought The Dvp3120, And I Must Say How

I have just bought the DVP3120, and I must say how slim, neat and tidy the product is.

It is REGION FREE, take advantage of this. To find out how to make it region free please look at the good points I have listed.

The region hack works fine, you just need to do it with the machine on and the drawer out. You can select any region (0 to 6), I set it to 0 (which means region free) and the machine would read region 1 AND region 2 disks. The machine also converts NTSC to PAL for playback.

Have tried the unlock code, but can not get it to work.

It asks for your password which I found in the instructions and put in, then what?

I found this review unhelpful because I dont think there is no useful information.

The DVD player has proved unusable as it would not consistently respond to the remote. The build quality appeared poor. I shall be returning this purchase to the shop and will then choose a different make/model.
