Dismal service by whirlpool and its after care and when this fridge breaks down will never buy one of their products again. The insurance company just wanted to flog and extended policy or get you to buy a new appliance instead of fixing the stupid machine. It took over three months and plenty of emails before the refrigerator got fixed. They gave me the details of a service company sameday fridge repairs agsrefrigeration who replaced the fan motor. At last we have a working fridge freezer.

Had this installed as part of a kitchen refit several years ago, fitter's suggested model, and it has been a problem ever since - overheating, underheating, leaking. Sadly we were left to deal with Maytag ourselves with no support, which was disappointing but also a lesson to us. Warranty was extended at our suggestion but has since expired and now, true to form (and close to Christmas) we are back with a broken appliance - melting freezer, leaking water dispenser, malfunctioning temperature control. Quite simply it has been a dreadful waste of money, and arranging repairs and service is like some Kafkaesque nightmare. Avoid at all costs!

Have to say if i had known about the problems this monster was goung to cause i would'nt have bothered. We have had countless occasions over the last four or five years and different companies and their engineers out wh all tried to fix the fault changing fans, boards etc us name it they have changed it what a load of cobblers all this money on an appliance that has'nt given much of a service, totally unreliable anyway was just about to throw the towel in when by a off chance came across agsrefrigeration who service the london area they came out and found their was a problem with one of the light switches thats why the fans kept burning out.

I bought the Admiral Fridge Freezer 5 years ago. It is a re - badged Maytag model and Maytag undertake any service issues. I took out an annual service plan offered by Maytag when I purchased the item which was fortunate as it has suffered from a number of faults from day 1. Maytag have now refused to renew the service plan and the appliance has developed another serious fault. Maytag's customer service is appalling. On the last three occasions I called and asked to speak to the person who was last dealing with the problem, I was told, quite rudely, that she wasn't available. I asked that she call me back but, this has never happened. I have now written off the appliance and will buy another model - most definitely not Maytag. If anyone is considering buying a May tag appliance, I would urge them to look elsewhere.

My wife unfortunately bought an Admiral Fridge Freezer (Maytag rebrand model), large Black Leather covering effect from Carters in Brighton 6 years ago for £1000. The product is useless and unreliable.
I used to work in the Domestic Appliance sector and have never seen a Fridge Freezer malfunction so often. It has gone wrong on 8 occasions. Regularly freezing everything in the fridge, no water flow as the pump packed up or the solenoid attached to the pump. Now it won't freeze and has defrosted all the food in the freezer - AGAIN
What ever you do, do not buy this brand of product.
I won't pay for another repair, we are going out to buy a Samsung or an LG. Even the engineer who attended last from the manufacturer said they were notoriously unreliable. Heavy, great build quality but too many features that regularly went wrong.......
Enough is enough

Bought this Admiral American-style Fridge Freezer about 2 years ago. Was trouble within the first year. Alarm goes off every day. Freezer warms up. The reseller J&S Appliances couldn't care less. Maytag, who own Admiral, are not interested in speaking to me unless I want to pay £200 for an engineer to come and have a look. Absolutely appalling customer service. Wouldn't even consider buying another Admiral/Maytag product.

UTTERLY POOR MACHINE! As other reveiws... numerous breakdowns. The switch between the fridge and freezer has broken a couple of times...jamming open and freezing fridge contents. Had one of the circuit boards replaced recently only to have it work a week then there was a burning smell and the house fuse was tripped and it's failed again! God knows why! I have a good engineer who cannot get any information from Admiral service department. Just seems to be a "chase the faults situation. Going to cut my losses (and my lost food bill!) and buy something else!

Yes, it looks good, but dont be seduced. Bad product not fit for purpose.
Our fridge kept freezing in its 2nd year - a known problem according to Maytag engineer. Engineer fixed problem by installing a baffle heater in the fridge. Sadly we were out of warranty by the time we got round to getting engineer out, so an expensive fix to a design fault... If this "heater" is required to keep fridge at correct temperature, why was it not installed at time of manufacture?
Also, the water/ice touch/control panel is very cheap and where you keep pressing the buttons the plastic covering is lifting and wont last much longer
Engineer was great, service personnel at Maytag not so

My Maytag f/freezer is 5 years old now, but since we had the f/freezer, we have had problems with it, the company refused to take it back and give us a refund, so we ended up keeping it. Because of the hassle we had, they gave us an extended 5 year warranty as a goodwill gesture. Lucky for that, because the fridge has broken down 4 times in 5 years and I only had it repaired last week. It is not cooling as it should be. I am now wondering shall I buy another years warranty for £72.00, so we are covered for a year. I have a feeling it is going to pack up soon. I really regret buying this machine and would not recommend anyone to purchase it.

My Admiral fridge/freezer has just briken down just short of its 5th anniversary after very light use(both firge & freezer running warm). I bought it from John Lewis in Cambridge but sadly didn't go for the 5 yr extended warrantee thinking that fridge/freezers last for ever. My 10 yr old Bosch is still going strong in the garage and without it I would have been in a pickle. To add salt to injury, it has been impossible to arrange for a service engineer to see to it. I tried John Lewis, Matag (both on phone and email) without success. I suppose I'll have to ditch it and go for a German machine. My advice is never by an Admiral or its much more expesive sister the Matag and for that matter any American product.

Nice looking item but sadly the cheaper options on offer are better value.
We where sold this fridge / freezer with alu cover as it would stand the test of time. Sadly not. 6 yrs later and the item has failed again. More annoying is that the aluminium cover has started to rust. How I do not know, as aluminium should not rust, I presume it is the inner body rusting through the thin aluminium cover.
SO upsetting for the wife as we hoped for so much more.
Now waiting for the engineer to call having lost £100 of contents due to the fridge and freezer side both failing and defrosting all our food.
My advice would be to buy another brand. Not this one as you will be bitterly disapointed.

I purchased my Admiral 21.2 cu (model HMG 21144) Frostless Frig from Lowes several years ago, and although my frig lasted this long I have had numerous problems: Frist my Ice maker went out and yes also flooded my living room as a result of freezing and spraying out the back side. Now either thermostat or compressor is going out... I would highly recommend another trusted brand for frig's... Appliances must be made to go out, unlike the good old days, parents bought frig and still have it today...

frig broke down after only two years, also iced up constanly then got too warm. Would never buy an Admiral frig/freezer again

The product is not suitable for centrally heated environments it seems. Obviously Americans freeze in winter. The insulation kit that had to be installed shortly after purchase has broken down freezing the fridge and its contents again. Despite this being a known fault with this product we are being asked to pay a fixed fee of £170 pounds plus parts to fix this known fault. Got no sense out of the US, they adamantly refused even to give me the Head Office tel number so I could speak to someone. If anyone from television is reading this, they are worthy of a programme all on their own. Don't buy it.

I really wish I had never bought from Maytag. A faulty ice-maker flooded my kitchen 3 times in the first month and in the end only the threat of involving trading standards squeezed a replacement from them. The new fridge, whilst not flooding the kitchen, has never really been satisfactory. The fridge temp sways from icy to too warm for no reason at all. The door edges are so hot that you can barely touch them. Whatever you do, do not buy this product.

am bitterly disappointed with my Admiral 60ADi american style fridge freezer, it has completely packed up after only 4 years. Maytag who make them are not helpful neither were John Lewis whom I bought it from, both said I should have taken out the extended warranty but hindsight is a wonderful thing........................

Deeply regret having bought this Maytag Admiral fridge freezer. Repeated breakdowns, long wait for poor service. The faults have to be seen to be believed, including the need for a modification within weeks of installation. Despite their attitude I intend to pursue a replacement though it is going to take up precious time.

Tried phoning Admiral head office they didn't seem to want to know never have problems with any of their items, they didn't even ask for the model. Do a search on the web there's even a kit available to sort this problem, other people have used it, but I don't know how to get one, my retailer was also aware of the problem. It's amazing really that they should make a modification kit?

The Maytag Admiral was not a good buy, its broken down 4 times in under 3 years. Twice the fan has gone and twice the ice maker broken down. On the first call out they also had to install an insulation kit between the fridge and the freezer becuase the fridge was running too cold. The fitter told me they usually don't bother to fit this in the factory as in some situations you won't need it but this means the fridge won't work properly if your house is kept fairly warm (i.e if you have central heating).
It's a pity really as the basic design is very good much better than the conventional fridge on top of freezer design espcially if your as short as I am. The big door buckets in the fridge are strong enough for big fizzy drinks/milk bottles. The shelves, drawers and wire racks are all sturdy and well thought out. I find it much easier to keep track of my frozen food as its all visable and easy to reach. And the kids love the ice maker/ water dispenser. But given the amount of food I've thrown away due to its frequent breakdowns I couldn't recommend it.

The evaporative fan on my Maytag Admiral has broken. I cannot find a website for the fridge/brand.
Bought the fridge from home depot a couple of years ago- they have no support or link on website.

I have such a poor service record with my Maytag Admiral Fridge Freezer. I even had to wait 7 days for a call out. Also the components break down easily.

We have been dealing with american fridge freezer repairs including Maytag for many years and must admit your case is rare with all these problems. Firstly the leaking water is because your water pressure would have been too high, causes stress on the valves this is an installation problem, not manufacturers, also the PCB boards can cause problems if you have had power surges etc, suggest you purchase a power surge protector.£10.00You dont need to contact Maytag you can google maytag fridge freezer repairs and look for the companies that specialise esp we have been repairing Maytag for over 25 years and we are the largest in the country.Trust Apex.
