“Be aware of AutoUnion Rental car ”

I would like to share my negative experience with autoUnion.eg rental car agency. Perhaps it could prevent others from having similar experiences. I rented a car at Agiou Foka 853 00 Kos location to travel to Kalymnos for rock climbing. They dint tell me I can’t take the car to another island. I assumed I can take my car anywhere as long as I am not crossing boarders to a different country. AutoUnion called port authority and instructed them to forbid me to board the ferry. They asked me to leave the car at the parking lot at Kos port which I did. Then AutoUnion went out of their way, called port authority, and claimed that I abounded the car. I dint mind to pay the fine for leaving my car IF I parked illegally. However, claiming that I abounded the car was absolutely not true and not necessary. I was left without the car in Kalymnos which limited my freedom of movement, had to spend 1/2 day at port authority dealing with forms, local beuracracy, pay fine, and be subjected to rudenesses and unprofessionalism. After I returned my car and my rental agreement was signed off, they charged me an additional fee for cleaning car on inside which was illegal. Please stay with reputable car rentals that follow international laws, standard protocols and procedures.

“Worst experience ever”

We rented a car from Auto Union this Summer. The car we´ve got had a lot of scratches and looked pretty much worn down. It wouldn´t be a huge problem if the car didn´t broke after one week… The transmission just stopped functioning one day, and of course, it happened in the middle of nowhere, quite late in the evening, on a sharp turn of a very narrow road. As it turned out, the car didn’t even have a warning triangle. Yes, we should have checked it ourselves at Auto Union office when we got it, but all those times we rented cars before – from other providers – we never ever needed it, besides, we assumed that the car would have all the necessary things… well, it didn´t. The whole story of getting out of there was a nightmare. Auto Union did provide us with another car after a lot of telephone calls and discussions (and they charged us for delivering this another car to us). Then we had to pay for the transmission repair! They blamed us for the transmission failure and insisted that it was our driving style that led to the break down. Well, as I mentioned already, it was not the first car we rented being on holiday, we have car at home, we never had situation like this. So, to make the long story short: I strongly recommend you to rent a car from some other company, no matter what, it would be difficult to find worst service than we had at Auto Union.

“AVOID AT ALL COSTS”

Booked a car months before our holiday, we arrived a couple hours late because of the flight was delayed and then the ferry from Samtorini to Naxos was running late, when we arrived at Naxos we phoned to find the office to be greeted on the phone by a man that was absolutely rude and said that we missed our drop off time, we rang the head office made a complaint, the women at head office said she could get our car to us within the hour, but we decided to cancel and ended up booking with Hertz who was much more friendly and same price with less stress!

“Poor business relations, the customer service was...”

The company representative made a mistake with the booking that resulted in a fairly significant inconvenience for us and they still charged me an extra fee. It was an honest mistake and we didn't get upset. My problem was it caused us an inconvenience and they tried to insinuate it was my fault, which it was clearly not. Even after I proved it with emails sent from their company representative they still charged us an extra fee. They apologized but would not return the money for the additional fee. The amount of money was trivial, I am primarily disappointed in the poor business relations. The rental car itself was good and the one agent we had contact with was quite nice, however, the customer service agent was very unreasonable.

“AutoUnion at Rhodes”

Unacceptably rude and non professional! They deceive the clients! Be careful! And they do NOT have their desk at the airport while they sell their services as though they had. And something abnormal with storage of the clients' credit cards details, which they copy in hand , including security code , and store in their papers .

“Rent With A Different Company”

BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN BOOKING ON THEIR WEB SITE! PAY ATTENTION TO THE DETAILS! When booking our rental car, I took too long and their site timed me out. . . OK. . . but when I immediately logged back in, the price when up by 20 Euros. By accessing my prior "look up" and paging backwards, I was able to "refresh" that page and book with the original price. BUT. . . although I paid 23 Euros "more" to pick up the car at the airport and drop it at a ferry terminal. . . the "voucher" they sent said we must return it to the airport. Thank goodness I saved "screen shots" of our booking. I asked them to correct the voucher, and they replied that we must pay an additional charge for dropping the car at the ferry terminal. As absolute proof. . I sent them copies of the screen shots with the correct pick up and drop off points. . . and the original price. They are still insisting that I pay an additional fee of 23 Euros to drop the car at the ferry terminal. I cancelled our booking!

“Knackered Car, Rip you off on petrol”

We hired a car for a week for Rhodes via Holiday Autos, we selected a Ford Focus or Equiv, and got some clapped out Volvo think,, it was really knackered, kept complaining it needed servicing, a/c did not work, it was completely gutless which was not good for the hills in rhodes and to top it all off auto union do a collect and return half full,, which is ok however we drove out the airport and the petrol gauge dropped from a half to 3/8ths so it had been short filled. not very impressed.

“Heraklion station Bad service unreliable!!! Avoid!!!!”

they gave us a car with bad battery!l! We took the car from Heraklion airport and drove to chania. It was fine at the beginning. Then after four days, in the middle of the city, we couldnt start the car again! It was in the evening, their service was open untill 9 and the road service number they gave us also doesn't function anymore after 9!!! We were lucky to be in the city so we could take a taxi, couldn't imagine what could happen if we were Somewhere out of town. We had to take a taxi back in the morning to the car and there came a guy from road service. It was not easy to get this road service either. Because we found out the car was not from autounion but some of their partners so they don't even know with which road service they have contract with for this car!!! In the end, the guy told us the battery was broken and he had to push the car down the street to get it started!!! We were then forced to keep in driving to get this car back to Heraklion.. We planned our trip and tanked the car full, due to this story we had to break our trip. Of course we didn't get money back for the fuel, or the taxis. We didn't even hear a sorry for ruining our holiday. NO more!!! Never again will I use their cars!!! AVOID!!!!!

“Dissapointing service at Auto Union”

We had a meet and greet at the airport , and as our flight was delayed about half an hour, nobody was there to meet us. We had to find where the office was and walk with all our luggage to the office. Not that far though. The staff member said that she was at the airport but had left again. The car that we had was being washed when we arrived at the office and our contract wasn't there either. We had to wait for a staff member to arrive with it. The car had a lot of scratches. Two wheel covers were broken and the interior had heaps of stains. We asked if another car was available, but there was none. The price of the car was good value for money and the staff we meet when returning the car where professional as you would expect. The bad service we experienced during the pick up and the condition of the car is a reason that i wouldn't recommend Auto Union corfu.

“Old, clapped out, wrong sort of car”

The pick up and drop off process was smooth and the map and directions to our villa was helpful. However, the state of the car was a disgrace and we were supposedly given an 'upgrade'! We hired a Caddy sized car but were given a huge transporter van which for the roads of Santorini was ludicrous. The van was clearly the last thing they had in stock. The driver's seat belt didn't retract, the passenger seat belt behind the driver's seat had a hole where the buckle should have clipped in. There were holes in the flooring, in the seating with stuffing coming out. It smelt, was dirty and the rear view mirror was cracked and you could hardly see through it. The rear brake light cover was cracked and there wasn't a panel that didn't have a scratch or dink in it. We were pleased to return the car without any extra scrapes given how small the roads were but if they charge us excess for the dreadful prior condition we hired it in I will be furious. Would never hire from them again.

“Terrible and exasperating experience”

We had arranged to get our car at Piraeus Port (Athens) and had reconfirmed our exact arrival time and pier location more than once. However no one from Auto Union ever showed up at the correct spot. After 90 minutes and many (expensive) phone calls, we finally gave up and were heading for the Metro when we spotted the guy from Auto Union. He was many blocks away from where he was supposed to be and had made no effort to find us. Supposedly the people at his office had called him. Either they were lying to us or he was ignoring them. In any event we were delighted to finally get underway. The car had only about 1/8 of a tank of gas; fortunately we were able to find a gas station pretty quickly. Much worse was that the GPS we had requested stopped working almost immediately. The drop off guy had warned us that its battery was low, but as it turned out that was because it was broken and unable to re-charge. Getting around in Greece, where we couldn't readily read the alphabet, without a GPS was something of a hair-raising adventure. When it came time to return the car, we had only been given GPS coordinates. Without a working GPS there was no way for us to find their office at the Athen airport. We were staying at an airport hotel, so we requested them to come pick up the car. At first they refused, but (again many expensive phone calls later), they finally agreed, as we told them that otherwise we'd just leave the car at the hotel. All in all a most unpleasant experience!!! And not at all typical of the service we met with otherwise in Greece.

“Ripped Off!”

We rented our car in Rhodes through Auto Union through economycarrentals.com. After checking in with the employee at the airport, some guy just drove up in the car, said "The keys are in the ignition" and walked off. We rented a car in Greece once before and had no problems with damages/inspections, so we figured this was the same. The car was pretty junky to begin with and the sideview mirror had been broken off and glued back on. Also, the car was delivered only half full of gas although it was supposed to have a full tank. We returned the car with no additional damages to the airport parking lot and were charged 30 Euro later that day on our credit card. We called and conveniently nothing was annotated on the computer, but there was a note on the actual contract about damage to the mirror, even though the car had already been rented out again. If you rent from this company, be prepared to pay additional charges as they are unavailable for initial and final inspections, and will surely rip you off.

“TERRIBLE!!!”

I wouldn't recommend this rental in Samos and will be cursed if you got a car from them!! They ruined my vacation. They gave me a 9 seat car with no air conditioner!!!! The windows were sealed with silicone!! It's a shame Greece is such a nice place and these people think tourists are stupid!! I am Greek and I hate to say that people doing business in such way make me ashamed!! They even told me they want to give cars to tourists only because Greeks cause problems. I guess they wanted me to only pay 110 euros per day for a car that had all the mirrors broken and was dirty. Don't give these people business. PLEASE

“Disappointment!”

I made a reservation of a mid class car but the rented one was smallest and lowest class, very old and in terrible condition. Air conditioning smelled rotten, the engine was finished and fuel consumption was 11 ltr/100 km. I demanded a compensation but this company gave me nothing but harm. The only positive thing was that the brakes were in good condition.

“SCRAP TIRED OLD DIRTY SMELLY CARS”

BOOKED CAR THROUGH ECONOMY CAR RENTALS.PICKED CAR UP AT PAPHOS AIRPORT AUTO UNION "COMPOUND" FROM WHAT LOOKS LIKE A RUN DOWN SCRAP YARD. CAR INSPECTED IN THE DARK! - ONLY A DIMLY LIT INSPECTION AREA AVAILABLE TO LOOK AT THE CAR - DURING INSPECTION I FOUND IT TO BE COVERED IN DENTS, SCRATCHES, SCUFFS ETC. ETC. AND PANELS MISSING FROM A DIRTY INTERIOR.NO ALTERNATIVE AVAILABLE! DROVE CAR OUT OF SCRAP YARD TO FIND H.LIGHTS WAY TOO HIGH AND OTHER DRIVERS GETTING DAZZLED. SUSPENSION AND STEERING WORN AND KNOCKED ON EVERY BUMP. GOT ONTO MOTORWAY TO FIND VIBRATIONS THROUGH STEERING AT HIGHER SPEEDS.I HAD TO USE WIPERS AFTER FIRST WEEK OF HIRE ONLY TO FIND THEM NOISY AND INEFFECTIVE. OVERALL -- AN EXPENSIVE RIP OFF OF A HIRE CAR. BY FAR THE WORST CAR I HAVE EVER BEEN GIVEN FOR A RENTAL. SHAME ON YOU.

“auto union bad rent company heraklion airport ”

i book via economy car rentals AUTOMATIC CAR in heraklion airport. recived via auto union hyundai accent a very old type with more 50000 km.very very bad old car. booked via economy full insurance 0 to pay but auto union full is with out WUG(wheals underside glass). the worker was friendly. very bad company with very very bad automatic car. NO RECOMANDED.

“cheap price but so is the car”

In general the prices are competitive but unfortunately the autounion car hire from cyprus gave me an old and smelly car during my stay. For that reason I doubt I will return to their service as I do not wish to suffer again. It seems if you picked their ecconomy cars you will have a higher chance of getting an old and worn out car. Not a happy customer.

“No maintenance old car, criminal activity, faulty GPS”

Terrible company, the car Gear was very difficult to engage due to low maintenance.The seat lever was broken in the Van we could enter the back seat. GPS malfunction replaced twice, when I needed to drove to their place for replacement, after two times they said they can not help me I remained without GPS for my journey.the worst the charge me 176 euro for a scratch that they did by themselves, simply criminal act. do not mass with them. They are cheap but cost me twice then a known brand like Avis or Hertz/

“STAY AWAY! ”

Stay away from this renting office. Decided to go for this company for my trip in Greece landing in Thessaloniki airport. It was the cheaper price given by Skyscanner search engine. At the end it was cheaper cause the car they give you is lower cathegory than the one you look for!! I had fixed my booking one month prior my arrival and when i got there they did not have the car that I requested which was 'Yaris Type'. I have been working for years in car industry and Yaris Type mean Fiesta, Polo, Corsa, Punto, etc. What they gave me is a Hyunday i10 which IS NOT Yaris type (Hyunday as Yaris competitor has the i20!). After choosing whether to take the car or loose my money, decided to take the car. It was old for a rental car fleet (3 years) and dirty (had some flowers remains in the inside of the car). Additionally, during my trip the lighter charger stopped working (honestly do not know if it was ever working). When i called to report the problem and get a replacement car, the reply was 'Fix it yourself'. Honestly, i do not think ever a customer should spend a minute of his holiday time fixing a rental car. I asked for a replacement car and they insisted the time it takes to give me a replacement car is longer than what would take me to fix it myself. So, seems like the time of employees of this company is more important than the time of the cutomer?!?!?!? Do not make the same mistake as i did... sometimer a search engine quotation can lead to this situations. The trip to Greece was awesome but this was by far the worst experience i ever had in a rental car company. Learning point: sometimes is better to go to Avis or Europcar and pay more than going to these cheap and not customer oriented companies.

My friend, I also rented a car from this company in Thessaloniki, in fact this was the 3rd time I use autoUnion (one time in Athens, 2 in Thessaloniki), and I had a very different experience. I had booked a VW Polo (or similar), and that was exactly what I got, in a very good and clean condition. When they were giving me the car, the employee was very polite, and made sure to show me all the car specifics, and controls. All the questions I had about the inclusive items and insurance policies were answered VERY CLEAR, and of course, as you say, the price was quite lower from the "bigger" companies.
This service I never had with big international companies like Avis, Europcar, or Hertz, where they just give you the car keys and a parking number where you are supposed to find your car on your own, after having to walk long distances through the airport parking carrying all your luggage. In my opinion, this is a far more customer oriented company, than any of the "faceless" multinationals.
Of course I didn't have any mechanical or other malfunction problem with the car, so I can't tell for sure how the company would react in such a case, but judging from all the other arrangements, from the overall reservation handling, information given, and the level of servive I got (for the price I paid), I would say you probably had a little bad luck with your experience.
