“total rubbish”

written by rkw1974 on 14/12/2012

The plastic wheels are a joke and are slightly too small for a 12.5 inch tyre, meaning the tyre continually comes off the rim. They are also too soft and will not cope with a properly inflated tyre, forcing us to use it with flat tyres. The brake operation is terrible. The restraining clips could not be any cheaper

“Since having the P&T Explorer for 4 months now I have...”

written by on 11/05/2011

Since having the P&T Explorer for 4 months now I have only been able to use it 10-15 times since right out of the box it came with 2 buckled wheels so i had to await a replacement. When the replacement came one of those wheels was faulty so i had to wait for another which they told me they would inflate to the correct PSI, it came totally flat so i had to hike to our local stroller shop to inflate it making sure it was the correct PSI as i had done with the others. Now after almost 2 weeks of use i have another faulty wheel. This time it looks like the tyre has come away from the rim of the wheel. Not to mention my front wheel gets stuck when I am standing and then try to move again with the stroller. My brake sometimes doesn't work and the hood pops off when folded. I have had so many problems with this stroller and it is so unreliable that I absolutely hate it and wish i never bought it. I also bought the cocoon and my son had outgrown it by 2 months. Don't choose this stroller.

“I have to agree with the review from the 6th March...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 08/03/2011

I have to agree with the review from the 6th March 2001, the Phil & Teds Sport is not the greatest pram. Totally agree with the issues regarding the brake, if you are not using your hand to try and release it, you do have to give it one almighty kick! Also finding the pram has a tendency to topple over, and we have had such problems trying to re-inflate the tyres after only using it a handful of times. I bought this pram as I now have two kids and needed the double. I am now finding that the cacoon is very difficult to fit into the reclined seat when the toddler is sitting on the top position. Also find it very difficult to get any shopping bags into the bottom well with baby no2 in the recline position. Lastly, there is no place to hook your changing bag onto the pram. The best option is to sling it over the handlebars, but ensure the bag has a long strap as this will need to rest below the reclined seat.
In all I am not very impressed with this pram. Previously used an ABC Design 3 wheeler for the first baby and loved it, now trying to make this pram work for me, and not really winning.

“My Phil and Ted's Sport: While it does manage to get...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 06/03/2011

My Phil and Ted's Sport: While it does manage to get my child from Point A to B (so I suppose it technically does the job it is intended to do), there are a lot of 'cons' that I wish I had known before purchasing. The brake is extremely jerky...I either have to bend down and do it with my hands to make sure the whole stroller doesn't jerk forward of I have to give it a real kick, which, as I said, jerks the stroller, not great if baby is sleeping. Nearly impossible to change the position of the seat from upright to reclined or vice-versa with the child in the seat, so you either have to guess if the baby is going to fall asleep and start her in the laying position, or watch her fall asleep and have her poor little head flop all over the place. Twice now while going over a curb the stroller has started to tip and it has taken significant arm strength to keep it upright. Honestly---I hate it. I hate that we spent nearly $500 on it. I hate that I can't really justify spending another $500 to get a better stroller like the Britax.

“Phil & Teds sport is poorly made junk. Looks good but...”

written by on 13/02/2011

Phil & Teds sport is poorly made junk. Looks good but every facet of its construction is a compromise of looks over durability. The only positives are its looks and its slimline profile as a double. The plastic rims in particular are rated well below the 35psi psi on the tires which means it's not even up to the task carrying the 28 kilos the manual suggests. The cheap rubber on the handle degrades swiftly over time the various clips and zips get stuck or malfunction at the many weak points. Terrible product not worth a fraction of the stupefying asking price.

“I recently purchased the Explorer and I am bitterly...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 08/02/2011

I recently purchased the Explorer and I am bitterly disappointed with it.
I purchased the Explorer model complete with doubles kit, double rain cover and cocoon. Prior to buying the Explorer we investigated a variety of different double pushchairs but we were attracted by the height of the hood on the Explorer as other pushchairs didn't seem to allow a big enough head height.
However, since owning and using the Explorer I am desperately disappointed and frustrated with it.
The pushchair itself is difficult to erect, I really struggle with it. There is no easy way to construct it with causing damage to it. Either the handle gets gravel or stones in it or the single wheel gets scratched. It would be much, much easier if it wasn't a two part process. Consequently the frame on my Explorer is already scratched and scuffed.

With the pushchair in single mode with a toddler:
- When I use it with my toddler the one hand recline feature is great but terrible to incline with a child in the seat.
- Once strapped in she is unable to lean forward.
- If it is raining or windy when we go out there is no back to the hood so my child ends up with a breeze at the back of her head which given the recent weather has been uncomfortable for her.

With the pushchair in single mode with a newborn:
- I purchased the cocoon but my son out grew it by the time he was 6 weeks old!
- When using the cocoon there is no way to secure it to the buggy so I felt I was unable to go out shopping in case someone lifted him out. It seemed the only way to stop that was to use the single raincover which is not ideal in a heated shopping centre.

Using the pushchair in double mode newborn + toddler:
- My toddler is 2 years old and quite often falls asleep when we are out walking however she is unable to do this in the Explorer as the front seat does not recline. If she does fall asleep her head falls forward so that her chin is on her chest which does not encourage a restful sleep. If we clip the hood to the toddler seat it reclines slightly but then I worry that the seat will fall through on to my newborn underneath. I know that there is a red safety strap to prevent this but the strap on our seat is not long enough and does not reach round the handlebar in order to secure it.

- When using the doubles rain cover there is no ventilation and so the inside steams up and frustrates my toddler to the point of tantrum.

- Added to this with a toddler on the front it is hugely heavier and difficult to hold back when going downhill or on an uneven camber.

Overall I get very annoyed when I use it probably because I was expecting more from it and feel so dissatisfied with it and then there was the cost of it. It wasn't cheap and hasn't lived up to expectation.

really easy and comfortable to push only have one baby so far and i think its fab - the cacoon is great when baby is tiny - dont really need moses basket in the house. the pram is easy to clean. the wheels pop off easily when required. the pram is great on the beach and in snow and rough ground.

it is quite heavy so be aware if you will be lifting it a lot and make sure it fits in your car boot! i need to take wheels off to get it in my car but still think its great

“The phil and ted sport is the best purchase iv made in...”

★★★★★

written by NuttyNat1983 on 01/12/2010

The phil and ted sport is the best purchase iv made in a long time. Worth every penny, even it's a little expensive. Very easy to use, light, fits in small car boots and through door ways, especially as I use it with the double pack. Can use it as a single too. The cacoon is much lighter to carry baby around than a car seat. I absolutely love it. The only down side is the brake is hard to put on and off and it's hard to get bags in the basket with the front seat reclined or baby in the back, but they don't put me off. I highly recommend for single or double use. A must buy.

Good design but poor execution. The materials are poor quality compared to McClaren. For example, the extra seat for toddler when baby arrived started falling a part within 1 month. This seems to be a problem a number of people are having. The brake is hard to put on and off. OK if you are wearing boots but not with flip flops. The construction could be much lighter and stronger for the price. In summary goodish but not great.

“The wheels are good and the concept is good just...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 23/08/2010

The wheels are good and the concept is good just poorly executed, With an 18 month old in it and a baby it is unstable on all but flat ground. The breaks are in my opinion dangerous and at the price the pram is sold for a very ill concieved area for them to have tried to save on production costs, (our previous £200 chico single pram had a much better breaking system), I could easily see this pram running away from you going down hill. The pram chasis is very sturdy but as a result is also very heavy at this price I would have thought Aluminium tubes might have maid it into the design. Sadly you don't get what you pay for in all things in life as anyone who has recently had a baby or been married will tell you it seems to be a good excuse for firms to double their prices at £200 this would be a great double pram at £400 its not, saddly the competion don't seem any better.

“I am very fond of my Phil and Teds Dash. I have two...”

★★★★☆

written by on 17/08/2010

I am very fond of my Phil and Teds Dash. I have two kids, one nine months old and the other 3 years old and I needed a double buggy solution, which is practical to use and economical for two kids.

The buggy is quite practical, because it's so much narrower than a side by side, so handy to use in doorways.
It is also quite light, so easy to manoeuvre.

The biggest problem I have had with this buggy is the brake, as it is very hard to operate.

All in all, I think this buggy is really good value for money, I bought mine of babybabyonline.co.uk for £350, wich is a fairly good price for this quality.

I am very happy with this pushchair and would recommend it.

The only thing I would say is that I would prefer to know that the buggy's brake is hard to operate before I started using it. I bought it off a website, so did not try it before buying.

“I have just bought the Phil and teds sport in red. I...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 23/06/2010

I have just bought the Phil and teds sport in red. I had a Mothercare Xtreme but had so many probs that they said the only way I could get a brand new pram was to buy again. I decided after pushing the Phil and Teds it was like the Xtreme so I spent the extra £100. I feel now that the Xtreme by far is a much beter pram.

The only reason I decided on the Phil and Teds was that I am a nanny and I am due to start a job with a child the same age as mine, 16 months, so I felt to have a single that could turn into a double when needed was good.

After using this pram i will say, I will not use it as a double for any lengh of time, I feel that it is to much hassle. When I walk into town, I expect both children to be able to sleep if they wish, and I expect to be able to put a nappy bag and shopping on my pram which you can not do if you have the toddler seat on.

When this is a single I will say the only problem's I feel there are, is the seat buckles at the back of the seat. My little girl likes lying compleatly flat when asleep so she has the pram in the new born position, to then sit the pram back up and click the buckles together is near impossible, I would say that this needs to be looked into. The other issue is the brake, it is so hard to use, I have given up, I tend to hold the long cord. The other pain is the main seat and the gapping whole it has at the back. No pram in my 20 years of being a nanny has been designed like this, we use a snoozeshade to permantly cover the back, all you mums this works wonders if you are interested. www.snoozeshade.com.

In short from a proffesional stand point, don't buy this pram if you are a first time mum and it is for a new baby, when you have a baby you need a nappy bag, and plenty of space for blankets ets, also you could not in my opinion use the coccon for a new baby in the summer, it would be to dangerious, new babies must not get to hot and this would cause over heating, also the gapping whole at the back of the pram would not be good for a new baby. If you are using it as your child gets bigger, say 14 months this is a perfect single buggy, to then if you have another child with you on a temporary basis great to have the extra seat, but not for permanant use by a sibling unless the sibling is walking most of the time and this seat is just for a short rest. If I have another, my husband will push a single Phil and teds and my baby will be in our carrycot on our 10 year old Silver cross, They both fit in the back of my Paccaso. Truthfully if you need a double for a new baby, consider the nipper twin, or the Jane, a much better option. And I will say I used the other day in work the Mothercare tandam with a 2 year old and my 16 month old, I found it pretty good.

“I bought the Phil & Teds sport with twin adaptor...”

★★★★☆

written by tiggrbadger on 07/04/2010

I bought the Phil & Teds sport with twin adaptor before my second child was born (there's only 17th months between them). I really like this pushchair and it is much better than the britax four wheeler we had before.

1. It is very nippy even with two in it.
2. It is light weight and relatively easy to fold.
3. It is durable.
4. The pnuematic tyres are great and make it easy to use.
5. The front wheel can be fixed or swivel so is good for all terrains.

There are a few niggles with it though not serious enough to put me off. 1. The raincover only just covers the two seats when the additional seat on the back is reclined.
2. You can't use the rain cover with the pannier bags (which are a great idea btw) as it won't stretch.
3. the tags on the zips of the main seat came off after little use, a deisgn flaw a feel, but can easily be replaced with a key ring.
4. The top bar on the additional seat is too low so that once the child is a bit bigger they bang their head on it.
5. The additional seat also sits quite low when on the front so that there is little space for the baby's feet below when using the main seat fully reclined.
6. it is quite bulky when folded and the large wheels are also i bit awkward when folded.

Basically, this is a great pushchair but is better served as a single rather than a double but the fact it can be converted is a plus for those who have to kids close together who are not twins when compared to the twin buggys that are available to date.

“Phil & Teds sport deluxe. I've read the various...”

★★★★★

written by on 04/04/2010

Phil & Teds sport deluxe. I've read the various reviews on here for this pushchair and had to add my own. I think we must've been incredibly lucky, as our double buggy has been amazing and well worth the money we paid for it. We have had it for just over 2 years and the only problems we've had in that time are as follows; a puncture, the front wheel went into lock mode, so I contacted a shop given on the Phil & Teds website. I was sent a new spring free of charge which sorted the problem. The basket has some fraying underneath but after 2 years, can hardly complain about that. Also the handlebar has some nicks out of it where it has been against the wall in our utility room or in the boot of the car. It's not a great problem and doesn't bother me. The pushchair has been well used. When new our daughter was newborn and our son was 2. I honestly have no complaints about this pushchair. We are selling it on now as I use a small, lightweight buggy for my daughter so it's no longer needed but I will miss it. A couple of things that may be helpful if you are going to buy one of these. Buy a pump to go in the basket, sometimes the air goes down in tyres which makes it difficult to push. Put the air in and your back to pushing with ease. Also, our daughter was very long when born (over 2 feet!), so she didn't last in the newborn cocoon very long. I just got a lovely fleecy blanket to wrap her in, instead. So if you're tall, chances are you baby will be and not fit in the cocoon for as long as you'd hope, get a good, warm blanket! Hope this helps.

i love the design and ease of use of this product compared with many other buggies. ours has had a complete battering by our 3 boys, has travelled all over the world with us, and still manages to remain in 1 piece, despite various airlines attempts to mangle it and hundreds of draggings in and out of cars.. believe me, a number of 'lesser' buggies [some more expensive!] have gone missing in action or been rendered unusable over the last 8 years.. well done bill and teds for an innovative and practical alternative buggy.. and you can run with it aswell without giving the kids double vision.. yeah it needs a new seat cover now, but so does my vw after 3 mini humans have romped over it for 3 years..

written by saffnelson on 17/04/2009

We have the Phil & Teds Sport 3 Wheeler Twin and in 11 months have had faulty stitching on 2 main seats and 4 toddler seats. The design and ease of use is great but the sport were made with mesh inserts in both seats and are fraying at an average of every 6 weeks which is poor. There has been an admitted design flaw and my new seat, delivered yesterday, is apparently reinforced, although looks the same as all the others, so it will be a matter of time to see if it is better than the others.
