“ING direct very complicated”

★★☆☆☆

written by bluebutterflies73 on 06/04/2013

I would agree that ING savings accounts are soooo complicated. Its really difficult to remember all the numbers you have to input online and its very easy to get locked out. Despite being frustrated about having to have a pin sent out yet again to unblock my online account, a telephone advisor told me I was 'behaving strangely'. Terrible customer service and I will be moving my account at the earliest opportunity. thanks

“ING Direct account closure”

★★☆☆☆

written by Tryingtogetsorted on 18/06/2012

I've had a savings account and a couple of cash ISAs with ING Direct, and until the last few weeks I would've recommended them to anyone. However I changed my bank account a few weeks ago. I tried to change my linked account but had a problem so I phoned them. Whilst I was on the phone I noticed a line in their guide which said that I would have to validate the account by making a deposit by cheque. I mentioned this to the staff member informing him that my new account did not come with a chequebook. He said it was necessary for me to comply with their regulations (despite having been a customer of theirs for 10 years or more). Given I could not comply I said I had no alternative but to close the account. After checking with colleagues, the guy told me I would have to supply a bank statement from the new bank confirming their details(!), and an original, not just printed off by me! As I had opted to go paperless, I had to make a specific request to my bank for the account which they supplied quite quickly. I immediately sent off to ING Direct. Phoned them a week later as I still hadn't heard (despite having been told it would only take a couple of days). They couldn't even tell me if my letter had been received. The next day I sent off a copy of my letter and statement by first class recorded delivery. Checked the Royal Mail site and found my letter had been signed for, so phoned them and eventually, after I told them I knew they had the letter, I was told they were processing my request and the money would definitely be in my new bank account by close of business. Just checked, and guess what - no money. I always say you can't really judge any organisation until something goes wrong, and you see how they deal with it. Well, sorry ING Direct but I would give you zero on customer service. The only reason I have given 2 stars is because up to now I have had nothing to complain about.

“I had their savings account for over 5 years. There...”

written by elizabethkim on 19/11/2008

I had their savings account for over 5 years. There had been no incident and I was relatively happy with them. I even recommended their service to few of my friends.
THEN...the problems began. I called ING to link a new checking account to the Orange Savings account. Answered security questions just to initiate my call. Then was transferred to another agent who was supposed to help me with the linking. She asked me more security questions - this time the questions did not pertain to me at all. When I told them this, they immediately closed down my account and blocked access to it. Told me it will take 60 days for me to get my money and that there was absolutely nothing I can do to have my money earlier.
I offered to send in copies of my IDs, utility bills, to show up in person at one of their very few branches - Nothing. Despite getting nothing but "NO" from their reps, I kept calling back and argued with them. One of the points I made - if I was some crook (not the real account holder) who called yesterday and tripped on the security questions, why did you not contact the real account holder and let them know such security breach has occurred? and that their account has been frozen as a result? I received no phone calls or emails from ING alerting me, the real account holder, of any suspicious activity on my account.
After making several other good points about how annoying their policies are and letting them know I'll be pursuing all venues available to me, they suddenly told me they'll release my money in 10-14 days. Earlier in the call, they were accusing me of acting suspiciously and told me they think I'm a crook trying to commit fraud. Yet, without having to provide another piece of identification data or answering another security question, they decided they'll move from 60 day lock-out to 10-14 day lock-out. How does that make sense?!
Eventually they will screw you and the amount of undue stress they cause is not worth the few extra dollars you make in interest. My recommendation is - go with a bank that has branch offices near you.

“ING Direct don't call after 5pm because systems are...”

★★★☆☆

ING Direct don't call after 5pm because systems are usually down and staff say they'll call back but they've never called me back. Also, interest rate almost stagnate for the last 2yrs. Better deals elsewhere.

“I wanted to open a savings account with ING Direct, I...”

☆☆☆☆☆

written by on 10/12/2007

I wanted to open a savings account with ING Direct, I had to get several identification documents certified by a professional person, which I did, I asked a family friend who works for the Ministry of Defence, I sent all the certified documents along with a cheque to them, they wrote back stating that my certified documents were unacceptable and they had to be certified by a doctor or accountant or solicitor instead. I then opened another savings account with Egg and transfered my money to them. I then check my bank account and find I'm now in debt with my current account of more than 600 pounds, as ING still went ahead a cashed my cheque! I can't withdraw any money at all, and ING have said it wont be until the end of next week until they refund my money! I can't believe they have done this and am really angry about it.
I advise anyone not too waste their time with ING Direct.

“I contacted ING Direct to open a savings account, I...”

I contacted ING Direct to open a savings account, I was told to gather identification (birth cert, passport etc) and have them counter signed / certified by a professional person. I asked a family friend who works for the ministry of defence if he would do this. He certified all of my id documents and sent them to ING Direct along with my cheque as requested by them to open the account.
They then sent all of my id documents back to me, stating that they were unacceptable and had to be signed by a doctor or solicitor. I then opened a savings account with someone else and deposited my money there.
I then checked my normal current bank account, to find that although ING Direct could not open my savings account, they still went ahead and cashed my cheque! I am in a worse state than when I started and am in debt with my current account.
I have telephoned ING and they have said they can't refund my money until the end of next week! I can't withdraw any money from my current account and am incurring charges!
I advise everyone not too bother with ING, it's more hassle than it's worth, and do not send them any money!
