“Outstanding Halloween fun ”

★★★★★

written by Sparkly17 on 08/11/2012

Visited during the kids half term week (oct 2012) It was brilliant, the kids dressed up in Halloween fancy dress and were admitted free of charge, which was part of the Halloween festivities. There was a street theatre show about to start as we arrived, which was very good, it was A Christmas Carol, the children then after the show were entered in to a Halloween fancy dress competition. There was a pumpkin trail which when completed the kids all got a sweet each. There were Halloween arts & crafts whereby the kids made halloween badges, masks etc. Everything was clear on the website before we arrived, the price was good, the value for money was excellent. We will be returning again this year for their Winter Wonderland and pantomime.

“Splendid!”

I took my family as part of the Dickens Festival down in Rochester. We got a money off coupon and we had a very nice time visiting Dickens World. My child was thoroughly entertained by the boat ride and the circus which was only £2 extra was brilliant. I will be going back and I would recommend.

written by on 09/03/2011

Me and my beloved wife, R.H.Atkinson have thoroughly enjoyed reading a lot of Charles Dickens literature in our own spare time. With this in mind, we heard about Dickens World online via a Charles Dickens related online website. As soon as we found time out of our, quite frankly, hectic schedule, we booked a trip to The Dickens World. We successfully managed to book a highly affordable stay at the local Travelodge. This provided beautiful scenic views of the local river Medway.

Upon arriving to The Dickens World after our 5 hour car journey, we managed to finally begin exploring The Dickens World.

The first thing that myself and Mrs. R.H.Atkinson did was walk up the stairs, which Mrs. R.H.Atkinson struggled with as she has a prosthetic leg. However, the Victorian staff members at The Dickens World were very accommodating in all of our needs, and after suggesting that they carried her personally, we used the elevator that was adjacent to the staircase entrance. Silly Mrs. R.H.Atkinson missing that!

After being plunged, both physically and emotionally, into the Victorian setting that is found within The Dickens World, we headed toward The Great Expectations log-flume boat-ride at The Dickens World. The journey is truly magical, beautiful scents can be found throughout the ride. Magical.

Here our journey came to an abrupt close, as Mrs. R.H.Atkinson had forgotten to lock the front door to our humble abode. We swiftly gave our condolences to the Victorian staff members, and left The Dickens World.

A truly magical setting in true Victorian character. Mr. Charles Dickens would be proud himself.

Mr. & Mrs. Atkinson

I truly believe that this review is almost outstanding as The Dickens World itself in my full honest opinion. It has definately convinced me, Robert Charles Thompson, to visit the splendid place for the ninth time. Yes, you read correctly, ninth.

Thank you very much for this very honest and detailed tale of events. I am almost definately sure that Charles Dickens himself would say the same. God rest his soul.

Thank you again. Thank you. Truly grateful. Thank you.

Further to my comment on this review I and my boyfriend visited this attraction. The staff were very helpful and offered me assitance, as I have lost my left leg and use crutches, when they thought I needed it. That disappointed my boyfriend as he likes to help me. If you're disabled, don't worry about a visit.

As I have also lost a leg but use crutches and not a prosthesis your review was very useful to me and my boyfriend.

We took some disabled children to dickens world, and to be honest after reading the reviews i wasnt sure what to expect, however we were greated by a lovely lady on the reception and then as we entered there was a greating by another lovely lady, all the staff we came across, were friendly and made a effort to talk to the children and we all loved it. i am takign my step children this week as i am sure they will like it. its a great way to fill a morning or afternoon and the children learn a bit about the past without even relizing it. x

I've just read the thoughts of the minority 35%, and would like to add this, while upon entering I could see why narrow minded people made the assumptions that they have. However we found the day entertaining and extremely informative. Our children loved it and enjoyed being involved in the Oliver show and we found the staff very polite/helpful and they clearly enjoy there job and if the rest of the country were so professional in their manorism the world would be a much better place jut like DICKENS WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We can't wait to go back!!!

I imagine that most of the negative comments are not born of narrow-mindedness, Loveit, rather an honest appraisal of their experiences (an experience which cost them a fair bit of moeny too).

★★★★★

written by on 09/06/2010

We visited on the Friday during half term week.

The attraction was grand, had an excellent time with my family. The boat ride was our favorite, we went round about 5 times.

The Haunted House needs a bit more to it, but the girl working on the haunted house was entertaining and made it a lot better, she really did put in a lot of effort with her make up and changing costumes!

The restaurant food was very nice, however the staff waiting on us were a bit poor.

All in all a good visit.

written by on 13/05/2010

Dickens World was extremely educational, I took my 3 children aged 3-7 and they all thoroughly enjoyed it. The only problem was the little one was too small for the boat ride, which was explained by a member of staff that it was to do with H&S, so my friend and I took the boat ride in turns with the other children. The courtyard shows were excellent and involved visitors. The attractions were great, the 4D cinema show in particular. The characters were informative and entertaining. Admissions staff and shop staff were extremely polite and helpful, and informed us that we could go out and come back later which was good for lunch, all round a good visit!!!

I cannot understand why this attraction has had such bad reviews. We spent 4 hours there and found it very entertaining. The boat ride was excellent, and there were no queues, so that you could go on as many times as you liked. The 4D cinema was great, and so was Dotheboys school. I would recommend this to anyone except small children who could be scared. However if you are expecting an Alton Towers or similar theme park experience this is not for you.

our family of 4..2 adults and 2 kids (10 and 6) had a great time here.
my son has autism and found it all a little too overwhelming to start with..but after watching a show and a quick look round he became acustomed to it and got stuck in all the various attractions. he had some help from a lovely member of staff who took time out to explain how various thing worked and she really put his mind at ease that there was nothing going to jump out at him (his biggest fear whilst there..)
the 4d cinema was great..kids loved it..
everything there was good value..no overpriced gifts nor overpriced food.. friendly imformative staff..and enough to do for a few hours!

I was suprised by the negative comments of some of your reviews. My school visited Dickens World, nearly one hundred nine and ten year olds. I thought it was very informative and interesting, as did the children. Quite honestly we could have done with even more time there, as there was lots to do. The Dickensian sets were stunning, and really gave a good insight into Victorian times. We will certainly be coming again!

I am 65 and I went to Dickens World today with my 8 year old Grandson and really enjoyed the day. I found all the facilities offered were working and all the staff very helpful.Even the food in the restaurant was good and reasonably priced. My Grandson was just as impressed as I was and asked to return before Christmas.Compared with the exhorbitant prices paid at so called Adventure Parks this was all round a good day and value for money

Dickens World, Chatam...I'm very sad to read such negative reviews about this super attraction. I took my 12 year old son and my 60 yr old parents and we all had a super day. You enter a well built detailed set of houses & courtyard. The boat ride is fun especially if you take a good look around you. The reenactments in the courtyard are probably too complicated for younger children but we enjoyed them. It helps to know the works of Dickens to get the most from this attraction. The theatre was enjoyable as was seeing the BBC costumes. If you are looking for an enjoyable indoor attraction that is celebrating a great writer then go along but if you want a theme park...stay away and don't give a rubbish review!

Having read rather negative reviews, we approached our visit to Dickens World with some caution. However, we were pleasantly surprised. Staff were welcoming, attractions were fun, and it was overall excellent value for money. We even purchased Dickens World caps for only 99p!
The design was astounding, we really felt as if we were back in Dickensian London. The ride was a particular highlight. We chose to ride three times!
Overall, Dickens World is an educational and fun day out for all ages (we're 19,20 and 23.....and slightly crazy!) Go now, you won't regret it!

28 MAY 2009 - Before booking our tickets to Dickens World we looked up some previous online reviews and were almost put off going. We are glad that we weren't though as we had a great day! My 12 year old son insisted that we write a review to let other people know that is is definitely worth a visit.

We were planning to visit Dickens World during the half term holidays, but having read the online reviews we were almost put off going. We did however decide to go and had a great time. In fact my 12 year old son insisted that we write our own review as a result.

We thought the setting was excellent, very realistic and really makes you feel that you are in Dickensian London. The boat ride was our favourite experience,. There were no queues and we enjoyed it so much we went on it twice. My son also enjoyed the 4D cinema show in Peggotty's Boatyard.
Having read other people's negative reviews, I would say that you should go with realistic expectations - it is not Thorpe Park or Alton Towers, it is an attempt to recreate the life and times of one of our greatest writers. If you go with this in mind, then you will have a great experience.
