We bought this (our 1st ever new oven) in 2007. It definitely works differently to std ovens. Judging by some other reviews we seem to have been lucky - ours has been totally reliable. (You never know how much heavy use or how people treat their stuff or if it was badly installed) It's not mentioned in the manual but the "Genus" function seems to be some kind of microwave effect - except that it works with metal dishes which you can't put in a microwave. This might explain the "sparking" mentioned in some reviews - we have noticed this but very rarely & only a little sparking. It's not a problem for us. The Genus takes a little getting used to. You need to read the manual! The handy "quick guide" is just a starting point - for convenience we cook pizzas on a different setting to the one they suggest (which burns them! - but you can alter temperatures to suit your dishes until you find what works) The oven is superb for bread baking - very quick! We are not chefs & are still learning what we can do with it. Slightly annoying - the temperature display is only for the oven & with the oven off shows the circuit board temperature - always about 18deg - not your room temp. The ONLY real problem with the Genus is the fan is VERY LOUD. Have to turn up radio a lot.. My sisters (Zanussi) is a good oven with a very quiet fan. I don't know why the Genus fan has to be so loud - we rang Customer service who weren't very helpful but that can be said of 1000's of companies. We leave the doors open to get it to cool down & stop the fan noise quicker. Now warranty has run out I'm looking into some way of modifying it or replacing with a quieter fan. For this reason I would only recommend it if you have a separate kitchen with a door! It's way too loud for kitchen-diner / open plan living. Just checked - NOW NO LONGER MADE but some spares available from "Stoves" website - hinges etc.

I was very impressed with the full functions of the Stoves genus Electric Double oven. I love that I can cook Roasted veg or traditional roast in the fraction of the time. That you can cook a medium chicken in half an hour, now that is great for Sunday Roasts! Jacket potatoes are cooked in a fraction of the time. Cakes and other food also are accelerated meaning less time spent in the kitchen and more in the expectation and enjoyment of what is to come. its a trial and error choice on how long food you normally cook can be cooked more quickly.
When I did have a problem the service engineer came out quite quickly and tried to solve the problem. The door hinges keep being faulty and preventing the closure of the door seal thus losing heat and function of oven not effectve.
Some pastry dishes and high fat food like pork are not very good on the genus function.
