Far from the Sodding Crowd: More Uncommonly British Days Out takes the first cut, namely B******s to Alton Towers, one stage further by providing another couple of dozen spectacularly dreary-sounding places to go and things to do and explaining the untapped charm and appeal of each.
It is frankly something we should be ashamed of that there is so much on our doorsteps that remains unknown, undiscovered, unchartered. This is a great travel guide for all those idiosyncratic and curious places you've either never heard of, or more likely you did hear of it and thought "na, let's take the kids to Chessington" or whatever.
Its unlikely anyone knows of all of these places, or, even more unlikely, that they have visited them all already. Its therefore worth picking up, whoever you are.
Informative and amusing.
