“Refused to assist with recovery in any way.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MikeBox on 31/08/2023

I have been a Britannia Rescue member for many years and previously the service has always been good. A few weeks ago however I contacted Britannia for recovery when my car was immovable due to front wheel having fallen down into a ditch just off a track on private land in a location 40 miles from my home. Having been assisted by Britannia on a previous occasion in 2005, in similar circumstances and at the same location, I realised under the terms of my policy I would be liable for the "specialist equipment" required to tow my car out of this ditch, but fully expected to be assisted under my policy by supplying a recovery service. I explained that I realised I would be liable for the recovery costs myself but was simply told that I was not covered at all and would have to make alternative recovery arrangements myself. I asked why then was I provided with a recovery service on the previous occasion ? I was told that "there must have been a change to the terms and conditions of the policy since then". I then asked to be at least given contact details for their recovery agent so I could contact them myself but this was also refused. Looking at my policy subsequently I can see no exclusion to provide service for a breakdown on private land, only that customers would be responsible fully for the cost of any "specialist equipment" required for recovery (which I had acknowledged I was aware of and accepted) so I consider I should have been assisted under the terms of my policy - whereas I was left stranded 40 miles from home and had to take "pot luck" with a private company without any basis to know whether or not they were reputable nor if the cost I had to pay (£300) was fair or reasonable.

“Kent recovery ”

written by Feering6 on 22/08/2023

We had problems with our car, which we were unable to drive home. Contacted recovery centre, found operator very pleasant and helpful, we required three different recovery agents and a taxi to get us home to Essex. We were contacted regularly by the operator, who kept us informed on the progress. We are very impressed with the service we received.

“Shocking service ”

Appalling service - we broke down, took 13 mins on phone, have been waiting 1.5 hours by the side of a busy Motorway in the rain with 2 kids and a dog, no sign or a recovery unit - terrifying. Pay the extra and use the AA

Broke down 300yrds from home. Customer Service lady was very pleasant and helpful. The guy came out within an hour, pleasant guy, got my car back home. I have used britania for over 25 years and only had one bad experience over 20 yrs ago, other than that they have been a excellent provider of recovery.

Phoned after loud noise coming from my car. Good, efficient response from them. Advised recovery could take up to 120 mins. I explained I was only 1,5 miles from home so asked if ok for me to get a taxi home & back to car when truck was near. Nice lady said it was fine & made note to send to recovery. Within 10mins before I’d called taxi, lady phoned to say truck would be with me in 40mins and hoped she’d saved me my taxi fare home! So grateful to her. Recovery arrived within the time. Smashing bloke who knew what the problem was straightaway. Fixed there and then & drove home. All done within 2 hours of calling them. Highly recommended & thank you LV Britannia Rescue!

“Service could not be better!”

★★★★★

written by Iangdarkes on 26/05/2023

I have twice used LV Breakdown in the last 18 months. Each time they arrived speedily, the last time within ten minutes. This time they not only recovered my vehicle home, but once I had found a repair garage a few days later came back and delivered my car to the garage. All the drivers were very friendly and happy. The cost is so affordable and included in my car insurance. I would certainly recommend LV Breakdown. 5 star all the way.

Just filled up at local Shell station - when lost all electrics. Phoned Brittania and was advised it might be two hours before breakdown would arrived. Five minutes later breakdown arrived - fault was identified quickly and I was mobile again. Excellent service.

“Really good experience”

★★★★★

written by Danielleamy1 on 17/02/2023

My car broke down at home. I called the LV breakdown line and got straight through to a lady and explained that I couldn't get my car into gear therefore would need my car towed to a garage. She arranged this for me instantly and said that I would get a call from the recovery company. After waiting about 45 minutes I got a text message to say the job was allocated and driver on the way. My car was then collected and towed to the local garage. The whole process was very smooth, easy and I wss left feeling pleased about a negative situation. As I didn't have excess on the policy, this was free to me with the policy I had paid for. Thanks LV.

“Inflexible policy. Useless as say the change of car...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Tommy123456789 on 30/11/2022

Today I rang (45 mins wait music on the phone) to change my car details. I was told by the assistant this has to be a permanent change and that my other car which is in the garage for repair can NEVER be put back on the LV breakdown policy. I rang the customer services and they confirmed this. Completely inflexible policy. I can only advise people dO not touch this company like the plague. I’ve been with them for 23 years when it was the CSMA never had a problem then. Only ever used there service twice. I won’t be renewing my policy. The RAC and AA do not have this restriction. Usless

“Untruthful communication”

★★☆☆☆

written by RowanDethron on 18/11/2022

Communication from central office has been adequate. However, we have been left by the side of the road for 3.5 hours with repeated phone calls which told us somebody would be with us in 20 minutes, which was not the case. We made our initial call to the central office at 10.15pm, and then we were picked up l at 1.45am. However, the gentleman that picked us up was very kind and helpful.

“very poor repair ”

★★☆☆☆

written by mywhitebicycle on 24/10/2022

myself and my wife brokedown in our motorhome in france the call out service was very good . we were towed to a garage in dunkerque, the garage completely messed up my fiat ducato [my seven year old grandson could have done a better job] the bill started at 1500 euros and was told would cost no more plus two days to sort out the problem after two weeks and a bill for 5,600 euros they left the motorhome just about undriveable. meanwhile britannia paid our hotel bills/taxi costs in that respect they were brilliant . we managed to get the motorhome back to the uk and were transported to my home address i realise that we brokedown in france but the contract was taken out in the uk and i trusted that my vehicle would be repaired properly. My local garage have told me that the motorhome would have to be stripped down to see what other mistakes they have made i am now facing another large bill i beleive this is the fault of britannia the name of the garage is dunkerque v1 avenue de la garonne so if you are in this area and need a repair keep away from this one.

“What a shame”

★☆☆☆☆

written by steveandthecats on 17/08/2022

I joined Britannia Rescue through CSMA. I have been with them for over 20 years. They then changed to Boundless. CSMA had an interesting magazine, Boundless has a glossy thing full of adverts, I tried to tell them not to send it to me but they said I had to have it. They offered a good service, fast telephone answering, and was rescued a couple of time. No drama, they just did the job. For some reason they have not renewed automatically and sent me a letter asking me to contact them. I have tried, oh how I have tried. Waited the first time 20 minutes, the next 15 minutes, gave up today after 25 minutes. If they can't answer the phone to take money from me what is the chance they pick up the phone if I had a problem, sitting beside the road. So I have joined the RAC, joined quickly without fuss. 20 years with the CSMA, my father before me and now because they can't employ enough staff to man the phones I'm off.

“Knight in Shining Armour”

★★★★★

written by PatIves on 22/02/2022

I was pleased to get continuous updates on arrival time when my car wouldn't start for my journey time late last night. It was a flat battery - it was 7 years old after all. I am elderly and female, it was cold and dark and I felt very alone and a bit anxious. The mechanic phoned me when he was just 8 minutes away. After jump starting it he insisted on following me home to make sure I didn't stall or turn off the engine by mistake. He also advised me to run the car for an hour but leave the window open in case it stalled and I couldn't get to the key. He also suggested I get the same battery installed by Vauxhall as it must be a really good battery to have lasted so long. My only regret - I didn't give him a tip!

“Cheap yes but definitely not efficient or professional”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AlyviaPrice382 on 04/02/2022

Customer service centre has unbelievably frustrating 'cut-off' phone lines Uncoordinated staff Umpteen members of staff ask the same questions over and over again. Long wait for assistance. My advice would be to go to the RAC or AA if you want a hassle-free breakdown service.

“Roadside Recovery ”

★★★★★

written by 1981Bradley on 28/11/2021

Absolutely brilliant, got us and the car recovered to the garage in under an hour, on a busy Friday night too. Luckily the chap was just around the corner from where the car broke down, so we couldn’t have waited much more than 15 mins for him to get to us. The whole process, from initial call to drop-off, was faultless. Thank you guys!

I have been a member of Britannia Rescue for as long as I can remember and have been happy with the service to date. I currently have European Deluxe cover and will be travelling to France in the summer. I will be towing my caravan. Could you please confirm that should I experience a vehicle breakdown say on a day off site without the caravan attached, that the caravan would be repatriated as well as the car should the car not be repairable I.e. the caravan would possibly not be attached to the towing vehicle at the time of the potential break down and the car and caravan could be a good few miles apart? The requirement to have both car and caravan recovered is of paramount importance to our family. Thank you
