Good food. Good portion size. Good price. Check it out. I love it.

Extremely disappointed. The menu is very poorly executed and instead of getting a slightly pretentious dish done well, we were served an embarrassingly bad attempt at dishes that were obviously too much for the kitchen staff to handle. The service however, was very good and the serving staff very friendly; but not a good enough reason to return. Instead of trying to convince us you are something you are not, please try cooking food at a level that you can handle.

I just can't fault this restaurant. That's my opening statement! I've eaten in some excellent restaurants around the world and Grahams On The Green is up there with the best of them. I have just come home from a lovely meal there with my wife and personally thanked Lorna, our host, on the way out.
I've seen a few of these bad reviews on here and can't imagine it being the same place!! The staff are polite and attentive, when my wife didn't like her starter (her taste, not the food!) it was replaced with something else at no cost.
Like I say; I can't fault this restaurant. Highly recommended.

Staff are excellent, especially a man named Jake, he was very friendly and had time to talk to you, he was absolutely excellent with a brilliant sense of humour. The food is beautiful, absolutely perfect in taste and presentation, the scenery is wonderful, duck pond, a lovely green and my favourite-willow trees. The restaurant itself is also a treat, it's layout is esquisite and it is furnished adaquately, the overall presentation and experience is tremendous, well worth a visit. but hands off Jake, he's mine! it says is there anything you would like to have known? Jake's number!

For the second time in two weeks I ate at this restaurant in the evening. On both occasions I couldn't fault it. We were greeted well and looked after extremely well during the evening. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, the wine was perfect and the bill perfectly reasonable. I would have no hesitation in recommending it, wholehearteldy. Reading some of the other reviews on this site I wonder whether they were actually in the same restaurant!

We recently visited for a birthday celebration. The manageress was welcoming but her staff seemed hassled and kept bumping into our chairs due to the poor layout (I'd recommend diners insist on a table around the edge of the room, not in the middle). The quality of the food varied enormously: the starters were adequate, the main course abysmal but the desserts (accompanied by a free shot of wine), excellent. At the end of the evening the bill had been miscalculated by over £50 and when we refused to leave a tip, we were left to find our own way out. This is my only experience of Grahams so I can't say if it's typical. If you are served by the right staff and order the right food, you'll probably have a pleasant enough evening, if not ...

poor food, rude service and graham was worse couldnt wait to get rid of people and turn over more tables.. looking for somewhere in chelmsford your better off getting a takeaway and sitting in with a bottle of wine.. felt pressured and threatened to order food, ultimatly made the wrong choice clearly by the food I was given..

We visited on 13th February , we arrived 10 mins early to be grunted at by the lady manager as our table wasnt ready, there was nowhere to stand and our coats were not taken. we were left standing by the bar in the way of all waiting staff, and had to keep moving out of their way as they carried trays of drinks, with our coats over our arms for 15 mins. Then we sat down. My chair was touching the mans behind me !! our coats still not taken were placed over the back of our chairs !! The staff had to be reminded of our drinks orders on 2 occasions. The food was good 10/10 to the chef. But the waiter had to lean over me to give my husband his plate of food as it was not possible for staff to move around the table due to overcrowding. We brought this to the managers attention who simply said that she didnt see a problem and it was a busy night. Our meal for 4 people came to £180 and we we felt uncomfortable and cramped, it was also hard to hear as there was so many people packed in. You certianly expect more when paying that sort of money. Any one planning a romantic evening dont bother.

My neice made a provisional booking for 7 people for christmas dinner, we was told that when the new building was finnished we was top of the list,we asked if they wanted a deposit but they said they didnt need one and would get back to us in ten days time when the new part was finnished. After hearing nothing fro Grahams we called in there, and was then told our sitting was for 12 PM . We then asked why 2 sittings was not on there webb site and also if we was top of the list how come why we did not get priorty , they had no explanation and was very rude about it. Me and my wife eat out 2 or 3 times a week but this is one restuarant we will have nothing to do with if this is our they treat a customer

The welcome and service we have always found polite and helpful. Unpretentious, not too formal but not too relaxed.
The menu is fairly short but our food has always been very good. I am not a vegetarian but their choices are limited. Last time I was there the vegetarian moussaka was very good however.
On one anniversary the Italian waiter brought us complementary flutes of champagne.
We have had a number of very relaxed an enjoyable meals there. When booking check that you can have the table for the whole evening if this is required. They often try to fit in two shifts.
Sample menus are on-line. Do book.

Just all round value for money. Excellent food menu and the wine menu is the most well balanced I have seen in a rural restaurant.
Tuesday night is music night with a brilliant atmosphere.

I think the mid week menu is excellent value, but the service is very hit and miss . waited 20 minutes for drinks , then starter and main course almost on top of each other. I notice they always sit some parties near the kitchen, even if you have booked weeks in advance. hmm, was not happy about that. some members of staff are a touch arrogant and not welcoming, in my opinion. shame , cos I relaly like the setting and the food and the value, but I don't like being treated as an inconvenince. Graham's on the Green you need to be more customer focused, or else all your expensive advertising will be negated by 'word of mouth'.

The food was delicious although the presentation not quite as good as when the restaurant first opened. The restaurant was busy on my visit and I thought the service was extremely slow.

I regularly visit this restaurant and the food is absolutely fantastic. It is beautifully presented and cooked, and incredibly good value for money.
It is simply one of the best restaurants around.
And no service charge was added.

Graham's on the Green Writtle was a case of the emperor's new clothes I'm afraid. Very popular but the food just isn't up to scratch. Overpriced, tries too hard (some weird flavor combinations), waitresses polite but they got our order wrong (watch out for the service charge), very poor choice for vegetarians (and kids) which was a bit embarrassing as we had 3 vegetarians in our party especially as we rang up beforehand to ask about the vegetarian options and got the usual reply of 'do they eat fish?', did I mention pretentious too? Not recommended I'm afraid.
