“My wife PX'd a Fiat Punto for an 02 3dr Ignis about 5...”

My wife PX'd a Fiat Punto for an 02 3dr Ignis about 5 years ago. I liked it that much that I PX'd my 03 Ford Ka for a same year 3dr Ignis with only 9K on the clock. My wife still has hers, stupidly, around 18 months ago, with the expectancy that I was to cover much more mileage with my job, I PX'd my Ignis with 45k on the clock and no repair bills, for an 06 Fiesta 1.4TDCI Diesel - big mistake. The Ford cost me around £1400 in "out of warranty" repairs in that short time. Couldn't wait to get shut of it. Just recently I've gone back to an Ignis, this time it's a 1.3 VVT 07 5 door estate. It feels quite a bit bigger and heavier than my wife's 3 door version - around 18" longer - a much bigger boot. At 18K the engine still feels tight and you really have to build up those revs to produce the best performance. But in fairness, this is not a performance car. Its strength is in its practicality, versatility and most importantly, its Japanese heritage for total reliability. If there is a slightly negative aspect, it's that you have to be really careful where you park it, particularly at supermarkets, as the car is only light and doors are easily damaged by other vehicles parked along side. My wife and I have just returned from a week's holiday in Cornwall (from Manchester) and have covered around 900 miles. The car never missed a beat and returned on motorways, around 55mpg. I'd say the Suzuki Ignis is one of motoring's unsung heroes. Sadly, production ended in 08. Would I recommend it - absolutely !!
