★★★☆☆

written by tom32 on 22/12/2005

In fairness, the Nokia 3200 mobile phone has lots of bad and good points. All I can say though, is that it's only worth buying if you find it cheap.

It's very simple and easy to use, and it is nice looking, but it does have flaws. I was even surprised that it came with no software or cable to link to the PC with - you have to buy it separately. The memory is the biggest problem though, as it's just not enough. A high quality photo takes up around 12-15KB, and this soon mounts up if you have other things, like ringtones and games. However, if you're new to mobiles, or want something bright and easy to use, this is definitely the phone for you.

It's so easy to get to the features, and it is a joy to use and so simple, as Nokia always seem to make their phones - it's just the simple, yet important things that let it down though. Sorry Nokia, but you've got to give us better value than this.

written by katya2 on 25/11/2005

I do like the Nokia 3200 mobile phone, and I think it is good for the type of people who drop their phones a lot, as I have dropped it several times and it has never broke. You can also change the covers and make your own.

The only things I don't like is that navigating the menus is boring; you can't have special key tones, and the menu is a boring layout. Also the colour screen is bad quality, and so is the camera. The games that come with it (Bounce, Virtual Me) are good though, and you can also download more. With this phone you can download lots of things, because Nokia's are compatible with all the companies that do ringtones etc., but the memory is tiny.

The battery life is long, and I sometimes manage to keep it on full battery for up to 3 days.

I bought my Nokia 3200 phone ages ag and I haven't had a single problem with. I use the radio rarely but when I do I get a good reception. I went on the Nokia site and even got myself a free Cover Cutter so I can get perfectly shaped covers, which is good. I am happy with my phone but it seems like it is out of date and old, the camera is good but could better.

I like the Nokia 3200 but I wish someone had told me how easily it would break, but as I said if you are looking for a first camera phone then this is it, because it is a good phone.

written by Phone Guru on 02/06/2005

The Nokia 3200 looks ugly, the shape is very mundane. The cam is poor, it doesn't have a video recording feature, and it's hard to get radio reception.

My hands are getting tired from all the bad points, let's just leave it at that. Basically don't buy this phone!

“Nokia are well known for their quality mobile phones...”

★★★★★

written by TOMLEECEE on 26/05/2005

Nokia are well known for their quality mobile phones and the 3200 is no exception to the rule. Even with the new remarkably low price of £50, the 3200 does not skimp on the features or design quality.

But first things first - the look. On first glance, those buttons look like they are going to be a disaster - rather than individual buttons for the numbers, there are 6 ovals each split into a top and bottom half with a different number on each. In order to get the right number, just press the corresponding half. It works really well and you never get a wrong number, which was a surprise. Also of note is the case, which is transparent and allows you to create your own inlays with the supplied cutter. This really is a fully customisable case.

Then there are the features. The 3200 has an integrated camera but the quality is debatable - nowhere near as good as something like an E700 or T160 and the snaps it takes are disappointingly small. However, the built in FM radio with automatic tuning (and fantastic reception) more than makes up for the (still useable) camera's shortcomings. There is also a great little LED torch embedded in the bottom of the phone that is activated by holding the * button down. I'm surprised that this isn't a standard feature on more phones considering that nearly everyone carries one these days - no more fumbling for keys or reading maps by the light from your phone's display.

The software is as solid as ever on Nokia models - very easy to use and in full colour. The icons are great and give a windows style feel to the menus, while other great things like infra-red allow Nokia users to swap images and ring tones for free. There are some minor niggles with the 3200. The case becomes loose after a while which is a minor annoyance, and the way that you have to individually delete sent messages (instead of deleting them all at once) is very tedious. The built in games can only be described as bizarre (an unplayable bouncy ball sim and a ridiculous virtual pet thing) and the built in ring tones aren't much cop either. However, as I'm a 23 year old male, the latest bus-annoyer from Usher isn't top of my wish list when it comes to tones - a simple 'ring' would suffice; but alas you'll have to make do with European techno pop ditties and classical tunes if you don't see the need to waste £4 of credit on a tone. Apart from those minor hitches, the 3200 is a great mobile, especially for under £50.

TOMLEECE
Just a quick point that you can delete whole groups of messages at a time (or the whole lot if you wish).
Got to the Messages menu, select Text Messages and then scroll down to the Delete messages option and you can then delete All Messages, Inbox, Sent Items and Archive.
Not trying to undermine your review, it's very good, just thought it would be helpful to you.
PS, My review is underneath yours :-)

★★★★★

written by vocrobot on 13/05/2005

I have a contract phone with O2 but I use a lot of minutes so I have a stand-by PAYG sim with Virgin mobile and this handset only has just been reduced to a ridiculously low price of £39.99, so rather than keep swapping sims between one phone, I bought this so I can keep my Virgin sim in one place.

Most reviews of this phone are very good, but some people seem to think the camera isn't up to scratch. Admittedly there are only 5000 colours on the display, but I think the display is clear enough. The radio is excellent (just like the 6230) and it has all the main features one would expect from a Nokia handset.

I believe this handset is aimed at the 9-early teens age group, but I am coming up 32 and I love it. Great phone for the price

Upgraded my phone to the Nokia 3200. Not Bad. I love the idea of the "make your own" covers although very poor cutter supplied. Very modern design and typical easy to use Nokia layout which is great. To start with the button layout is rather hard to grasp but after having it for a few days it was extremely easy to use. Great overall phone my only bad point are that it has a typical Nokia camera-poor quality-although the night mood is relatively good, but overall a good to average phone.

I got the 3200 in exchange with the Nokia 6610. I thought it was advantgeous and it was, except for the style. Anyway, the screen quality is not bad, but not great also (4000 colours). The camera is useless, if you really need a camera in a phone forget about it. The battery stays for about 3 days. It maybe a nice phone for you if you don't need a camera as it's price is low. I think you can get a SonyEricsson T610 for nearly the same price and far better features.

I bought the Nokia 3200 3 months ago, upgrading from a Nokia 3310. It appealed to me as it seemed to have quite a lot of features for a pretty low price for a camera phone. The phone has a camera, a radio, wap, a calender and what I feel is a decent amount of storage, it keeps 60 mssgs at any one time and 400 phone contacts. The only problem I have found with this phone is that after three months I've just had to put it in the bin!! after dropping it from jeans pocket height, the camera has gone through the front of the screen and would cost £150 to repair, as I bought it for £80 I think I'll just have to look for a slightly tougher phone.

“The Nokia 3200 is a very good phone but with drawbacks...”

★★★★★

written by gavingwsmith on 18/10/2004

The Nokia 3200 is a very good phone but with drawbacks due to Nokia's 'youth style' phones. Basically, these are phones that have all the features but they are stripped down. For example the phone has a camera & a colour screen but the camera has a max resolution of 352x288 and the screen has just 4096 colours and 128x128 screen pixels.
On a more positive note, the phone is packed with features including an FM radio. It has good reception but has failures picking up local radio stations. You also have to plug the handsfree kit in to listen but this is not such a big deal because it comes free with the phone.
The ringtones are also good quality but by far the best feature of the phone are the cut-out covers. Basically you get a cutter that cut out stencils that you can colour in or you can just cut an image straight out of a magazine. You then just slip it in underneath the clear plastic cover. Unfortunately, it is plastic and so even the smallest touch from a coin could scratch it and if you constantly remove the cover the handset starts to rattle inside.
The handset, in my opinion doesn't have enough memory at just 1mb, but this is probably due to Nokia's 'youth style' phones. Another mb or two would be ideal. The buttons are also a problem with there being 6 oval keys with 2 numbers on each key rather than the conventional twelve. To operate the keys you must either press the top or bottom half of the key. It is very easy to get used to though and I haven't made many wrong typings. The buttons are silicon covered, not rubbered so they are very easy to press and the numbers won't wear off.
All in all this is a great phone that is made good by nokias youth bias.

All I can say is, if you are buying this phone because you want a camera included, don't. The camera on the Nokia 3200 is very poor for the price. I have found cheaper phones with far better quality cameras. For example- this phone priced at £100 has a resolution of 128x128 with just 4096 colours. The phone I exchanged this for cost £80 and had a resolution of 640x480 and 65k colours. I can tell you the difference in picture quality is immense. The Nokia is good in other areas- its sound quality is excellent and the speed and response of software is good, plus its voice recorder is impressive- but if you want a camera phone for anything but sub-standard pictures, don't buy this.

The Nokia 3200 is a good phone, but with long term problems, I reccomend it to upgraders, or as a short time phone as it is cheap. It has 4000 colour display and the quality of pictuires is average.

I purchased a Nokia 3200 in Jan 2004, it's best bargain considering the features and the price. I really felt like a winner when I bought it. But it scratches easily. Secondly it's a pain to write the messages. Thirdly the quality of images deteriorate tremendously if you do edit them.

“I loved the Nokia 3200 mobile phone within a day after...”

★★★★★

written by Snookiewaldz on 14/07/2004

I loved the Nokia 3200 mobile phone within a day after purchasing it. Reception is very good. Though it has an upgraded GPRS (EDGE) but at times has difficulty connecting to internet; to download files, tones, and screensavers.
Screen display is acceptable, what do you expect from 4k colour display? Just buy an expensive phone to get an excellent resolution. The only flaw I get is that when I'm recharging the battery in off mode. It's difficult to see the bar scrolling in the display while charging.
Camera image quality is like of 7250 or 7250i. But be cautioned, the more you edit or transfer the image to other folder or make it as a screensaver, the more it is getting distorted. Overall, image quality is good. 1Mb of memory for this phone is okay. If you want to enter the world of photography, then again, the market has a wide selection of camera phones that has 2 Mb or more of memory capacity.
I hate the covers. It creaks all the time. Nokia is promoting this phone to personalize by changing the cut-out covers but they forgot to design a plastic covers that is easier to remove and to replace. If you intend to change the cut-out covers frequently to show off it to your family and friends, forget it. You might damage the plastic covers in the long run especially the front panel in which the dowels are subjected to extreme pressure when inserting to the inner housing. Back panel not really a problem when replacing but removing requires two hands and a good point to hold otherwise your phone will drop or fly, depending on the angle you choose to remove. At first, I disliked the design of the keypad. But now I can live with it, somehow. You just need patience.
Tri-band phone, no problem travelling the continents and staying connected. Can record calls and sounds in 3 minutes duration. Flashlight is better than in Nokia 1100. "Go to" menu is an excellent idea where you can store your frequently used functions, menus, and sub-menus and accessing it with one to two keypresses. Calendar is bit of a problem. Why? You can delete all notes in one press but you can't view all the notes you've stored! Voice quality is very good. The loudspeaker function is very useful especially when the conversation is important and you want everybody around you to hear what's going on on the other line. The headset that comes with the package is not stereo. You have to purchase the stereo headset seperately to satisfy your love for music. Lanyard hole is very small; it may take a considerable effort to insert a lanyard. Polyphonic ringing tones are loud enough to hear even in a very noisy environment when you selected the "Outdoor" profile. My only dismay is that some of the classic Nokia polyphonic ringing tone is not included and only 11 ringing tones are available. The rest it's up to you to download from websites or to create true sounds of your own.
Overall, the phone is very good to own. Maybe it'll take years before I would replace this phone.

written by HaIrYtHiNg on 08/07/2004

The Nokia 3200 overall is a "teen" phone targeted towards the teenagers. It's a nifty little phone for fun and not really for professional business use. The number pad takes a while to get used to but overall it's alright. The camera quality is not that great compared to other phones but hey, it still has a camera! The two coolest thing on here is the built-in flashlight which is quite bright and the FM radio. The only main thing that I disapproved of, is the layout of the phone. The layout of the Nokia 3200 looks a bit "girly" for me but it can all be changed with different skins and covers.

We love the fact that you can make your own covers...as the kids have made colourful ones for me, and we customised my husbands with the soccer club that he plays for, as his cover...also he is wrapped to have manchester united logo as his background and I have marvin the martian....we both love them. they are great as far as lifetime of the battery as well as reception...
cannot complain at all...the camera is great. the flashlight is handy....love it....
