“I bought the Pacific DVD player in 2002 in ASDA and it...”

written by Clark Gwent on 11/04/2005

I bought the Pacific DVD player in 2002 in ASDA and it plays most things, but there are a few discs it will not play at all. Recently I purchased a legitimate box set of Joss Wheldon's FIREFLY TV series, of which I am an enormous fan, and it quite simply will not play it. This is most disappointing as by now the device is well out of guarantee and I cannot get a refund. I would strongly advise against purchasing one of these because you never know, a few years down the line, you might suddenly get the same trouble as I have.

I am thoroughly disappointed in that every DVD watched on this Pacific DVD750 DVD player either froze up completely or jumped constantly. After 6 weeks I have had enough and I am never buying Pacific again. I suppose if you buy cheap you get cheap!

“I purchased a Pacific dvd player model DVD750 in...”

written by misty69. on 15/09/2002

I purchased a Pacific dvd player model DVD750 in January of this year. Upon taking it home we tested it and found it to be working ok but not wanting to watch a dvd at that moment left it for a while. When we returned to it we found that not only would it not play but it would not even turn on!Yet my dvd was still inside it! We returned it the following day and were assured that this was an isolated problem so collected a replacment. This one lasted approximatley 6 weeks before succumbing to the same fault - yet again with a dvd in it but not my own this time but a rented one and in the middle of watching it! Once again we collected a replacment, again being assured that this was an isolated incident! Please bear in mind both these machines had to be dismantled in store to get our dvd's back! The next dvd player didn't even last 24 hours before yet again having to be returned. It defied even the set up process and would only play in black and white! Yet again, being the fool that I am and despite numerous calls to the helpline costing me money, I collected a replacment! The next model did last approximatley 2 months before starting to jump whilst playing and doing the opposite of what you asked it to i.e forward rewinded/stop played etc...By this point I had completely lost all faith in this product and asked for my money back!!!!!!! I have since written to the manufacturers but having sent the letter only a month? ago I have not yet recieved a reply!

“The Pacific dvd-750 DVD player is supposed to play...”

written by ian c. on 20/08/2002

The Pacific dvd-750 DVD player is supposed to play vcd's but the 2 I've had from Asda didn't. The guy in the shop assured me they should. They are due new stock this week. Will the problem be fixed? I gave in and bought the 1002 model. This plays everything I have tried and was cheaper. Nuff said!

I also have the Pacific DVD 750 from Asda. It plays VCDs without any problems - this was the reason that I bought it as my older Matsui simply refused to play ball. Are you sure that you are encoding your VCDs correctly when you write them - and have you tried them on other DVD players?
<br>
<br>Apart from that the 750 is brilliant value for money. True, the drawer mechanism is a little slow - as are other functions. But when it's playing both the picture (particularly through the component video outputs - how many budget decks have that?) and the digi sound are terrific. At this price range I think it's virtually unbeatable, so I can't understand the rating given in this review.

I bought one of these a couple of months ago from Asda, and it is clearly stated on the packaging that it plays VCD's... but it definately doesn't.
<br>
<br>I will be taking this up with Asda, whom I have heard supply a firmware update to re-enable the VCD function.

I bought a Pacific DV-750 in November of this year as xmas pressie for the eldest. Set it up boxing day and guess what it didn't play vcd's.
This was my first buy of this model. I bought one in Feb last year and that one works fine.

The Manual for the DVD-750 clearly states that it will play MPEG1 and 2 formats. A VCD is MPEG1 format and so we are within our rights to expect it to play them. I am taking mine back to Asda for a refund or to swap for the cheaper model mentioned above.

hi i work at asda, the reason why you can't play vcd's, is that they've taken that function off them, if you read the packaging it no longers says vcds...

I just bought the machine tonight on the strength of reviews and recomendations that it will play VCD's I have a collection that may well just rot (commercial vcd's ) and will not play !! do not buy look at the instruction manual it now says "video cd function has been Disabled"!! it goes back to ASDA tomorrow !! .I wonder if this comes under trade description law because there was no sticker on the front of the box saying that this function has been disabled.

You can take your Pacific back to asda and get your money back no problems...you gurantee covers you for total satisfaction and if your not happy with it then they will give you a full refund.Go get your monet back and find your nearest TESCO store and buy there dvd player...its around £80 and still plays the job lot (vcd's etc)

i have the same problem with the pacific dvd-750 DVD player too. It's because asda apparently told "pacific" about the player playing vcd's, which is illegal. So it's impossible to get done! SORRY!

“Unfortunately in February this year Schneider saw fit...”

written by CHR15. on 07/06/2002

Unfortunately in February this year Schneider saw fit to remove the Macro Hack from the Pacific DVD750 DVD Player, following this they also removed the VCD Playing facility. Schneider claim it is due to UK Copyright laws!! This all seems really bizarre!! Do they not want to sell any more players?? They have gone the right way about it. I can understand the Macro Hack removal, but why the VCD?? Practically ALL other players support VCD and SVCD. My review now goes down to 1/10. ASDA have been good though for all those returning their players. I can't really see why they should refuse to accept it if the box is missing, were you supposed to keep all the original packaging for the whole three years?? Not everyone has a garage to store empty boxes in. Take it back!

Bought this Pacific DVD750 DVD player and was very pleased with purchase.

Looks great, fairly slim, silver, nice display, great MP3 playback compared to others I have tried.

But... seems to lose track during playback, leading to annoying pauses at random points in the film.

I'm taking it back tommorow.

Video CD's will no longer work on the Pacific dvd-750 DVD player. Do not buy this player! Look elsewhere unless you only play DVD's or MP3's.

Well I'll take my Pacific dvd-750 DVD player back soon as it refuses to play anything anymore. It first started skipping a bit and eventually died... Oh well... My old Samsung DVD player is still going strong, I guess you get what you pay for.

written by Gav. on 05/03/2002

I bought one of these paper weight Pacific DVD750 DVD players. When I tried to play a certain vcd it dumped like mad. I spoke with the help line after I had changed the player twice and was told they were having a lot of trouble with the opticals on this machine. SO WHY ARE THEY STILL SELLING THEM. I have it on good authority that a new model is coming out in April so I'll change it then.
