This kettle is a safety hazard. The water level indicator shattered whilst it was boiling and the water ran off the kitchen worktop and burned my little nephew. The plastic that the water level indicator is made of has just crumbled and I don't know how it's passed safety tests. For this to happen after just two years of probably less than average use is appalling. I would steer clear of this one if you want to avoid an accident.

Very very disappointed as had wanted a Krups FLF39W ever since I bought one as a gift in Hong Kong. The on/off switch switched off after 2 or 3 seconds. Persevered and it worked. Next time same process happened all over again. After 24 hours of sometimes working properly sometimes randomly switching off after a few seconds decided to return kettle because watching it to make sure it actually boils negates whole point of buying automatic kettle. The (good) one I bought in HK was, I am pretty certain, manufactured in Germany (I will check when I go back). This one felt nice and solid - a substantial well made product and boiled really really fast. Not too noisy. Automatically switched off without filling kitchen with steam because of special construction of lockable lid which includes a tongue-like shutter over the spout. First class kettle and good to look at too. The (faulty) one I bought in UK - Made in China! It feels flimsy and does not work! Shame.
