Big, bright and stylish. Dead-pixel free and Value for Money.

I have been searching for a 19" monitor for a while.
And reading Yusmart monitor's reviews, on Amazon.co.uk and elsewhere on the Intenet, I finally decided to order this model, Yusmart 198YP from Amazon. And boy (or girl) I'm glad I did!
First, everything sounded good to be true, from price, quality to delivery and retailter's customer service - until I received the actual thing!

Then I found a few dead pixels when I started setting the monitor up. One or two big/medium, others extremly tiny/unnoticeable. But they were on the worst possible places on the screen! Top left hand corner (near My Computer/My Documents or whatever icon there is), middle left hand corner (on top of Start button or under Start Menu when clicked) and above Taskbar/middle right hand corner!
Next, I sent an e-mail to Amazon via their "Contact Us" e-mail address, just enquerying about their Return Policy for monitors with dead-pixels, how many dead-pixels warrant for a replacement/refund etc.

Then to my amazement and without any notice, I shortly received the following email (fragments):
"> We thought you would like to know that the following item has been sent to:
...
>
> Your order #xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx (received xx-March-2007)
> -------------------------------------------------------------------------
> Ordered Title Price Dispatched Subtotal
> ---------------------------------------------------------------------
> Amazon.co.uk items (Sold by Amazon EU S.a.r.L.):
> 1 Yusmart 198YP 19" TFT 8ms ... 0.00 1 0.00
> Shipped via ... (estimated arrival date: xx-March-2007).
> -------------------------------------------------------------------------
> Subtotal: 0.00
> Delivery Charge: 0.00
> Total: 0.00
> This completes your order."

First, I thought it was something to do with additional items etc until a delivery man knocked my front door on the next morning and asked me to sign the delivery receipt.
(At this time, I was in the middle of writing the LAST few sentences of a VERY long, negative review for the monitor. And I was just about to click the mouse to upload it.)
I said what.. erm which item/order... from which company?
Then he replies "Are you Mr X?"
I answered "Yes".
Next, he goes "Then sign it here" in a slightly raised voice!
Though still confused, in the end, I reluctantly agreed. Ok...

I thought Amazon.co.uk or some other companies that I had been ordering stuff from went mad and doubled my orders by mistake!! And I was gearing up to deal with them - at once!
But it was none of that. It was deliberate and a well executed plan. And I was beaten in the very last second!

It was a brand new, dead-pixel free monitor from Amazon.co.uk!
And it cost me nothing to arrive. Honestly, I did not even think it would ever come.
When I realised what was going on, I immediately plugged it in. And to my utter surprise it was perfect! No dead pixels of any size/colour to be seen - anywhere!!! NONE.

Then the following response to my initial query e-mail:
"Thank you... I apologise for the delay... ... Since you have mentioned that the item had a few dead pixels, we have created a replacement for the whole item.
I have placed a new order #--- for --- and it will be dispatched as soon as possible to the same address." And the replacement monitor arrived on 12hrs later by ParcelForce.

Next, I logged onto my Amazon account to file a Return. Though my first ever return, I found the info, steps and instructions all easy to follow. From selecting the item to return/order ID etc, their system even recognised the replacement arrangement and displayed the following re-assuring statement (Yes, I was a bit corcern about return charges/hassle):
"Important Mesage: Please note: Because your return is the result of our error, shipping costs associated with your return will be covered by us..." I personally do not see things like these often!

What's more, at the time of writing this, I received yet another good e-mail from Amazon telling me that they will even arrange a Parcel company to collect the defective monitor from me. How good is that? Surely, no company can beat that!

Now, I'm a happy man. Well Done Amazon. 5+ stars out of 5. 5/5 stars for monitor, too. Don't know about Yusmart/its Customer Service.

I ordered it on Fri 09/03/07 at about 23:00 - 23:30 from Amazon.co.uk. And delivery date was promised as by Wed 14/03/07. It arrived on Tue 13/03/07 by Home Delivery Network Limited. In fact, before other stuff I had ordered from other companies some days earlier!

Viewing area is: 15" wide by 12" high (38cm wide x 30.5cm high) or about 19.21" viewable area! And the entire dimensions of the monitor are (WxHxD): 16"x14"x1.25" (~40.5cmx36cmx3cm). Hence few areas around the edges of screen including the bottom which includes control buttons, as well as, speakers. Nicely designed and maximised for viewing screen space.

Installation is really easy. Just plug it in and sit back. It will do everything by itself! Well, you can just adjust your screen resolution (optional). But most of the time it will do that, too, automatically! The way true Plug n Play meant to be.

I have no comments on speakers since I use home stereo.

Summary: Amazon.co.uk handled all the issues from delivery to replacement, delivery/return costs and even arranged the actual return and all the fuss associated with it - as well as ALL costs - very efficiently, effectively and quickly indeed. Far MUCH better than I ever thought or expected from any company.

My Verdict?
Buy it. Just make sure that you buy it from Amazon.co.uk or from a similar company that is willing to offer you a replacement or a refund if you, like me, are unfortunate to receive a bad one in the first place. In my case, Amazon forked out both delivery and collection costs - the whole lot! Demand similar service from others! Alternatively, stick to Amazon. They never let me down for a VERY long time - and they are getting even better by the time with ever new surprises!

Sorry, it finally died on Dec 2017/Jan 2018.
That works out about 10 years - 3 months or about 9 years and 9 months.
