“Quality, Returns, Selling Practices, ERVs, Grading and...”

★★☆☆☆

written by Malone273 on 09/11/2016

I wish to pre-empt this dissertation by saying I am not a jeweler, but I do have a jeweler friend who has looked at my pieces and given me some advice. I don't buy from him mainly because he deals in high-end, high-priced items which I cannot afford. I have taught myself about jewelry from information the hosts on Gemporia have provided, watching their programs diligently and surfing the internet for more detailed information from loose gemstone sites and the GIA. The following are just my opinions from my experiences with Gemporia. I know there are buyers of all ages and financial budgets. I, in no way, want to offend anyone and believe you should buy and be happy with your jewelry no matter how much you spend on it. I myself won't spend any more than $200 on a piece of jewelry no matter how much I like it because I know my financial limitations. If you are happy with buying a diamond in Sterling Silver, then be happy. If you are an investor who can spend thousands of dollars, then I'm sure you're familiar with the cost of loose stones and the work that goes into making the pieces and the cost of labor and the bottom line you wish to spend. To each his own. QUALITY - One thing I have come to learn from the pieces I've purchased from Gemporia is that the gems you purchase in sterling silver will not be of the same quality as those purchased in gold. For example, a Zambian emerald in a sterling silver setting will be cloudy and very included compared to one that has been set in 18k. I, personally, believe that to be wrong. The quality of the gem should be the same quality no matter what the setting. The only difference should be in the cost of the diamonds, the cost of the gold it's set in and the price of the stone in relation to it's size. The quality/clarity of the stone should not be diminished. I don't want a Zambian emerald set in a sterling silver ring to look like a candy box prize. I want it to have good clarity and not crushed. The pieces set in sterling silver are already small. Why can't they be of good quality? My ring in sterling silver will naturally be less expensive because it's not set in gold and it doesn't have diamonds and it's made up of .15ct sized stones. But those small stones should be just as nice as the ones in an 18k gold ring set with i1-i2 diamonds that has a 1ct emerald in it. You're paying for the 18k, the high quality diamonds and the bigger stone so of course it will cost more, but my sterling silver one should not be any worse in quality or clarity to that 18k item. That's my opinion. RETURNS - it should not take 10 working days to "process" a return and up to 30 days (or more ) to see my return on my credit card. It's actually longer, because once they take their time "processing," I still have to wait another 2 or 3 days for my own bank to accept it. So in reality it is more than 30 days. They drag it out to make sure they get their 30 days in before they have to "process" the return. It's not right. I understand that I am in the U.S. and it is being shipped to England and it takes slightly longer to get there. I usually send my items back by Priority Mail to their new Florida receiving area and they get my package in 2 days. But once they receive it in England, it should not take another 10 working days to process my return. Everything is computerized. All that is needed is for someone to inspect that the items are the correct ones being returned, process the return on the computer and then send it on it's way to the main vault/studio. I should not have to wait for it to get to the main vault/studio for my return to be processed. In fact, now that they have a "live" program and building coming out of Florida, U.S.A., I can't understand why they can't streamline the return process and shorten the time for those of us ordering from Gems who live in the U.S. When I purchase something at my local store, I don't have to wait 30 days to see my refund. It's all computerized and instantaneous. If they can pick, process and send and get the item to me in 7 days, then it should work the same way on the return. PRONGS - An issue they really, really need to work on is the prong setting of the stones. I have too many rings where the prongs are not set properly and they stick out and catch on everything. My daughter wanted to borrow my Madagascar Ruby bracelet and she had to take it off because it was catching on her clothing too many times. She got fed up with it. I know this has happened to me many times also with other items. STERLING SILVER QUALITY - I just had an experience with is a bracelet made with Sterling Silver. The metalwork was not good and the bracelet contained cracked stones. On top of that, the sterling silver was already tarnishing which makes me wonder how long this piece has been laying around. This piece of jewelry should not have passed quality control. It should have gone straight into a clearance/outlet store on gemporia.com. At the very least, they should have cleaned/polished the silver on it before sending it out. FREE ITEM - Along with this current purchase, they were apparently giving away a free black agate chakra bracelet. I laughed out loud when I saw it. It looked like something you would give as a baby's bracelet or for a toy doll, the stones were that small. I could barely get it over my hand. I was afraid it was going to break and the beads would fly everywhere. What a joke. If you're going to give me something free, then at least make it something that will make me want to come back and purchase more. ACCURATE ITEM INFORMATION - Be conscious of how they present their merchandise. For example, yes Chrome Diopside (one of my favorites) is rare and only mined 3 months out of the year in Russia. But it is only rare when it hits the 2 carat size. So when they show you a 2.39 carat ring made up of 1/4 carat stones, this is not rare. Rarity comes from 2 carat or larger solitaires with very little inclusions. But, I own both smaller stones and larger 2ct + solitaires because I love the color of Chrome Diopside. What I don't like is how they're misleading the buyers by saying that all Chrome Diopside is rare. LOUNGE ITEMS - If you are a regular viewer of THE LOUNGE, like I am, be careful of what you bid on. If an item only has a scratched band, then go for it, but if your multiple stones are not the same color or there is a scratch on the stone itself, then you may be better off passing on it. I have purchased items where the stones were scratched or not color-matched or ended up being more heavily included than what I would have wanted, whether or not the price was right, and I returned them. In order to fix the scratched stone, it will cost you more money in the end, which defeats the purpose of buying it on The Lounge. And you can't replace an off color stone unless you buy it loose on line and then you still need a jeweler to pay to fix that. But, of course, if you can live with the imperfections, then by all means go for it. PINK SAPPHIRES - The new PINK Sapphires they're selling now seem to be different batches made in the 10k. I recently watched a Gems UK show on Sept 3rd and saw a beautiful 1ct Pink Sapphire Solitaire in 10k yellow gold. And then strangely, I saw another Gems UK show on Sept 6th and saw another 1ct Pink Sapphire Solitaire in 10k yellow gold that was very pale compared to the first one I saw they both had different item numbers. Obviously, the ring with the deeper stone was $80 more than the paler one that was shown a few days later. I don't understand what's going on? If I was the one that bought the pale ring and then saw the deeper stone of the same carat weight and size, I would be upset. If you go on line to some of the loose gemstone sites, you can see what the color saturation of a pink sapphire should be. SRI LANKAN BLUE SAPPHIRES - are diffused which gives them their great color. CEYLON SAPPHIRES - Their Ceylon Sapphires in 10k gold are pale and have too much banding of color. So far, all of the ones I've ordered and returned were very poor in color consistency. I had rings with 6 stones and at least 3 were only half colored blue and the other half were clear sapphire. You have to buy 14k or 18k to get better color saturation. I would rather have a consistent color throughout the stone and have it be paler than have zoning where half of the stones are blue and the other half nothing. Just because they have the name of Ceylon on them does not mean Gemporia is giving you a high quality product. I'm tired of seeing the items on air look great and then receiving an inferior product. Maui Kunzites - Some are irradiated. Most rubies are Fissure-filled. But they have recently brought in some new Mozambique and Thai rubies that are not fissure-filled. At least that's what I believe they are saying. But I have recently read that there is "heat" treated and there is "heat" treated with flux. Which is Gemporia selling to its customers? Most Rainbow Sapphires are Diffused now. Their original Songea sapphires were only Heat Treated which was great. I have a few of them. COLORED DIAMONDS - Check that your white diamond is better than an i3 because it won't have any sparkle. As for your colored diamonds? The hosts tell us that they only use quality colored diamonds in their jewelry, but the fact that they don't grade their colored diamonds (and you can grade colored diamonds), tells me that they aren't telling us the truth. Also, diamonds set in sterling silver won't be any better than i3 or worse. Their Genuine Jade is so pale it's not worth purchasing, unless you happen to get into it early and pick up some darker green pieces. Tanzanite are at least $100 to $150 or more; Triple A stones over 1 carat are now only placed in 14 or 18k; smaller Triple A stones are placed with zircon instead of diamonds; they are placing larger 1.5+ carat Double As in 14k because they know no one wants the Double As any more, especially if you want to invest, and they believe because it is in 14k that you'll think the color will be better. Fortunately, I purchased several Triple As when they first came on air in 2012 in the US and they were still reasonably priced and my Double As look like Triple As. ALSO, I believe they have raised their old designs by$50 to $100 more than what they may have been a year ago. Unfortunately, who wants the Double As any more? The only Double A's I may purchase would be larger carat stones (2+) in 10k or 14k solitaires or cluster pieces using large (.80 to .90+ cts, just under one carat each) Double A stones in pendants or rings. I would love to find a 3 or 4 stone pendant with a total of 2.70cts or larger in 10k or 14k gold with a price that won't burn my pocket. I think I'll have to go to Ebay. Anyone purchasing for an investment has already missed the boat unless you find one in 18k for a really good price. They're all too high now. ZAMBIAN EMERALDS - Color is the most important when it comes to Emeralds. If I can't afford a 2 carat emerald, then I would like them to make some nicer cluster rings or pendants in 10k gold that have 1/2 carat emerald stones in a cluster setting with a higher total carat weight. I would love a 3.60 carat cluster emerald pendant with 9, .40 ct stones as long as it had the right color. Or a 3 carat pendant with 6, 1/2 carat stones. But it must have the right color. Don't give me pale, cracked or cloudy emeralds in my smaller settings. Just because I can't afford a 3 carat Emerald in 18k gold or platinum doesn't mean I don't deserve the same quality in your smaller stones. MAHENGE BLUE SPINEL - Their new stock of Mahenge Blue Spinel is very beautiful but way overpriced. I own a 3.33 carat, 5 stone Mahenge Purple Spinel 10k Gold Ring that I purchased a few years ago for $199. Each stone is .66 carats. I think it's beautiful but I still think I paid too much for it then. If you look on any of the loose gemstone sites, a .38ct blue spinel is only $21.00 and they have many to choose from. So 3 stones in a ring would only cost around $63 for the stones. But understand, that if you go that route of buying the loose stones and making your own ring, you'll be paying for any accent stones and the gold content and the labor. But you will be getting something unique to you. Gems wants $279 for a 3 stone Blue Mahenge spinal 14k ring with diamonds. 14k Gold is about $25 per gram in the U.S. right now. So that's $50 in this ring. 3 Blue Spinel .38ct Stones about $63. Add 12 pave i2 Diamonds around $43. You have a total of $156 wholesale cost in just the materials. $156 to $279 is about a 75% mark up. So that mark up pays for television time, salaries for hosts, designers and craftsman and any profit and charitable work. But be aware, not all of their jewelry is hand-made. Probably a good portion is bulk made in some way or another. Don't tell me they don't use colored lights or filters to show bluer tanzanite and to make the stones look darker than they are. As I am watching right now on Gems UK, I can plainly see that there is a bluer light or filter being used because the host's hands are even showing a blue haze on them. They have all these beautiful stones. You want a Ceylon Sapphire but you can't afford one in 14k or 18k so you wait until you find one in 10k. Once they place these sapphires in 10k they also place them with Zircon instead of diamonds. Any one else notice that? I want my 10k Ceylon Sapphire to have diamond i1 to i2 accent stones just like the ones in 14k or 18k and I want my Ceylon Sapphire to have the same depth of color as the ones in 14k or 18k. Maybe I can't afford 2, 3 or 4 carats of them but at least I would be happy knowing that I bought 1/2 carat of smaller deep blue sapphire stones with diamond accents that was not diminished because it was in 10k. They must think that because I cannot afford their 14k or 18k items, that suddenly I desire to have Zircon with my 10k Ceylon Sapphire. All industry known gems (Ceylon, Paraiba, Bumese Ruby, etc) should only have diamond or sapphire accents. A Ceylon Sapphire is a Ceylon Sapphire and shouldn't be diminished in quality just because it is set in 10k and then make it even less desirable by putting it with Zircon. I love Zircon. But not as accents to my Ceylon Sapphire. Everyone looks for diamonds as accents. And not i3 crushed Diamonds...which is what I got when I purchased a 1/3 carat Diamond ring. The ring was to have i1 to i2 diamonds, but when I received it, it was as if someone took a hammer to it and turned it into a crackle quartz. Where in the heck is their Quality Control? I had to return it and so I lost my purchase Postage amount and my return Postage amount. Losing $10 on top of the fact that it was a terrible ring. I really don't like cleaning sterling silver. If they used almost pure .999 silver then I wouldn't have to worry. It would rarely tarnish. If it doesn't say 925, then it is a lower grade of silver and will most definitely tarnish. I spoke with a retailer and designer of sterling silver jewelry in my local mall and he said that true sterling silver will rarely tarnish and if it does it just needs a light rubbing with a cloth. He only used .999 silver in his designs. Why can't Gems provide Rhodium plated sterling silver which will last longer and stay beautiful longer? The other Liquidation Channel does. Their ERV (Estimated Retail Value) in their Gemporia Store on Line is different than what they show on air for the same item. On air I have seen that they raise the ERV of that same item and then make you think you're getting such a great deal. Another issue regarding their pricing/selling tactics. You see an item on air that you want and it comes down to a "never before seen" lowest price. Only 2 days later, I saw that same item, it was the last one (I purchased the other 2 days earlier). The current host said that was the best lowest price ever and it was $50 more than the host that had it on air 2 days earlier. What's up with that. Are they all seeing different prices on their computer screens? Whatever the low price was 2 days ago should be the same low price 2 days later, not $50 more. Their Ametrine line is getting paler and paler, especially in sterling silver. Everyone knows the 50/50 split is the most wanted but they are doing more and more of the fancy faceting which hides the fact that your stone may only be 90/10. The colors are paler or they are either almost all Amethyst or very pale Citrine showing through. I would be very happy with 60/40 or 70/30 split as long as the colors were rich and deep. It looks like they try to hide the lack of color depth by faceting the stones so you don't notice it as much. I recently purchased a 13ct in Sterling Silver Ametrine which was beautiful deep color, but with no color play. It was mostly purple Amethyst. Don't bother cutting and faceting Ametrine stones that are less than 70/30. I will send it back. Amber - Gemporia's Amber is HP (Heat and pressure). I was confused by this since all of their natural untreated stones have no treatment stated in the details and they keep stating on air that it is natural. Yet, Amber has HP in the treatment details. That means that you may be getting real Amber but they are bits and pieces of Amber that have been taken off from larger stones or rejected by authentic Polish Amber sellers and have been fused together to make it more uniform in design. Treated amber is genuine amber but not natural Baltic amber. Natural Baltic Amber commands a price. It is a rare gem and is priced as a rare gem. People who mine amber know its value and do not sell it at low prices. You simply do not get it cheap. If you get cheap amber, it is likely ambroid or low quality pressed amber. If you're going to buy a ring that came down to a remarkably great price and the only one left is a smaller size than you normally wear, you may want to pass on it. Their 10k gold rings have EXTREMEY THIN bands. I purchased a ring that I had been waiting for and I didn't realize that it was in a size smaller than I wear. I thought, well I can get it resized a half size larger. When it came, the band is already so thin there is no way I can get it resized without paying out a lot of extra money to add gold to it. I am keeping the ring because it is a beautiful Csarite in a nice carat weight (biggest of all my Csarites). But there's no way you would be able to make it two sizes larger like they state on air. If they keep telling us it can be re-sized, then they better start making their rings with a heavier gold weight so that we can. In regard to their diamonds, they have all of these new collections and pieces coming in and yet they STILL do not have the diamond clarity and color listed on the details as you watch the program. You have to ask them on air to tell you the clarity of the diamonds. If I'm paying $400 for a blue Mahenge spinel, then I want nothing less than i1-i2 diamonds as accents. If you're going to buy any chain from Gems, make sure you know the gram weight you're looking for. Anything under 1 gram will be a VERY VERY THIN chain. If you want something more substantial, look for chains that are at least 1.40 grams for 18 in and higher weights for longer chains. They should be providing the TREATMENT information on their Authenticity Cards. At the time of this writing, I believe they may have added that piece of information on their cards, but I have still received cards with NO TREATMENT INFORMATION. The hosts are always telling you that they never use the same design twice. That's just isn't true. They use the same design over and over. They just change the stones so they can say they never use the same design twice with the same stone. APPRAISALS - The hosts keep telling us to take the item to our local jeweler and see what they say about the value of the item, but what they don't tell you is that no jeweler will tell you anything unless you PAY them. I have tried contacting several jewelers in my area and none of them will give me the time of day to just look at my pieces and tell me whether they are worth the price I paid. Lastly, I wish they could understand that our time is valuable to us. I like to play with the hosts while they are on the air so long as they keep the program going. But I have no patience for the hosts that take forever to put the next hour up when it's time and keep chatting away about their personal lives and I can't stand one host that just gabs and gabs during the program while we wait for her to do her job and can't get through all the pieces while she's on. Converse with us, but keep the program going at a good pace. We want to see our pieces and banter a little with the hosts, but we also have other things to do. Good Luck and Smart Shopping

Nothing has changed, the girls still gab nineteen to the dozen, one reminds me of an ice cream sales girl on the beach. They are on tv to make money, you are never going to get a bargain, as you say, thin gold, silver with substandard stones. I look for a bit of fun now. You get what you pay for, if it was that good they would just offer it for sale at the price they wanted for it and move on BUT it needs all the waffle because otherwise it won't sell. Very informative review, thank you

absolutely spot on review. I watch a lot although I think that my buying days with this company are probably over. I have bought lots and lots, probably 90% of which are rings. Too many to wear but I like a diamond ring! I have a lot of their fancy band type rings, but most have lost at least one little diamond from the design. I think like you quality control is lacking.
The presenters also are so irritating, one wriggles about like she has cystitis, another doesn't stop playing with her hair and looks like she has had one too many glasses of wine, one guy looks like he is auditioning for Tiggar. Really I think they need a review of all the presenters because if they are not boring, they are so annoying I switch over, so perhaps that why I do not buy much now.
I know they are sales people but lets face not every thing is super, outstanding, amazing, etc etc, but these people are just so disingenuous over some ugly piece of tat that is definitely time to turn over. And don't start me on the fragrances and candles....!

“Gems TV, not so good quality ?”

★★☆☆☆

written by jzVaughn306 on 17/10/2016

Ive watched this show for the past 5 years. Ive brought lots from diamonds to plain silver chains. ive got some nice looking pieces, but ive also gotten some total rubbish. If you can get the lorique items then I imagine its quality, I cannot stretch to these budgets. Tanzanite and Emeralds are never as they look on screen IVE GOTTEN 2 EMERALD PIECES WHICH I LIKE BUT I KNOW NEITHER LOOK ANYTHING LIKE THEY DID ON TV.The presenters are pure salesmen!! not presenters. I also believe they have specific pieces to use in studio which are best quality but they send out inferior quality. Some time ago I was advised by a presenter they had discovered a new Topaz which was peach pink in colour, and that once it had been studied it would turn out to be a more important gemstone than they at the moment think, ive not even seen any more ever sold so I expect I was robbed again. Diamond solitaire ring I brought was returned, as my local jeweller compared for me and the difference was very visible, mine looked opaque in fact I was advised by him to send it back as it looked like something used in the industrial sector. I BROUGHT A YELLOW AND WHITE DAIMOND RING AND ALL THE DIAMONDS SEEMED TO VANISH? that too was returned. The PRESENTERS all say compare this online, it'll cost hundreds more, but your not comparing like for like. Ive noticed more recently the amount of created colours they are now doing so much for totally and always natural. Where's his wife's collections gone not seen any for a while. Some of the best staff have vanished,. a couple are now on Rocks & co, where the jewellery is far superior to Gems - tv  PROMISES DO NOT GET HONOURED ANY LONGER HAVE TO AGREE WITH EVERYONE THE BEST CALL CENTER STAFF NO LONGER WORK FOT THEM. Those there now have no idea how to speak to anyone Gems tv has grown too big a company too quickly. Therefore lost the integrity and truth about the gemstone jewellery business I grew too love, its no longer what it once was.

“Poor customer service!”

★★☆☆☆

written by taSheehan201 on 13/05/2015

I have been a customer with Gems TV for about 2 years and have a substantial collection of jewelly fom them within this timescale. The majority of items purchased I am pleased with, though I have bought items, especially earrings, where the stones have fallen out or arrived broken. My main issue is with their customer service; it is appalling. The staff are rude, unhelpful and act like they do not want to retain your business. I also believe that my account has been blocked for returning items, all of which have been returned within the desired 30 day money back return date. On one occasion the item on air actually was retailing for more than the same item on the gemporia site, so please be aware of this and check out online site prior to purchasing! It is such a shame that this company offer such poor customer service as the majority of the items I have purchased have been fantastic. There are many other online retailers who provide better service and it is with a heavy heart that I will no be buying from Gems TV anymore; ultimately customer service is everything.

I absolutely agree wih you. Some customer service staff are sooo smug wih their attitude, especially when they have found an excuse to not to honor their price pledge. Also I have found that the examples they show on tv are of higher quality than the ones they send out to you, in the case of stones like moonstone, stones with shillar/luster. I have spent £1000's on this sight but I may as well have spent £10 for all the respect I get.

“They'll CANCEL Your Account If You Ask Too Many Questions”

★★☆☆☆

written by Cierra351 on 07/02/2015

They'll Close Your Account Without Notice If You Return Too Many Items Some final points for your information I was told my account with The Genuine Gemstone Company was closed because I had "too many returns". Apparently, the OVER $5,000 I spent on jewelry in the past 2 years was not enough for them. Then on top of that, I had a credit on my account which they chose not to mention and I had to call them back to find out what happened to it. I was told I could still buy one last item to use my credit amount. But how could I get the best price on my last item if I could not go on line any more? I wanted to purchase my last item from The Lounge and on the Lounge it is fastest fingers first. Even if I wanted something, by the time I would call the Help Line it would be gone. So I asked them if they could allow me another 30 days to find and purchase my last item and they ignored me and I never heard back from them with an answer. How unprofessional and very unfriendly customer service after the money I spent on their channel. It seems very coincidental that this happened just as I was questioning their Tanzanite grading scale on a recent Tanzanite ring I purchased. My ring was graded as AA+ and the stone was over 2 carats. About 1-1/2 years ago, which is about 6 months after they came on air here in the U.S., they were telling the buying public that AA+ would only refer to Tanzanite stones smaller than 1ct even though they had Triple AAA color. Anything larger than that would be considered a Triple AAA grade. I actually received an email from their Help Team where they stated that Matt Bennett, son of the CEO, verified that claim. So when I recently purchased my 2ct Tanzanite ring and it was only graded as AA+, I questioned this grade and asked that Matt Bennett or one of the other gemologists at the company explain why this was not graded a Triple AAA. I even sent them a copy of the email they sent me back in 2013. After waiting for over a week to get an answer from them, I instead found out when I went on line that my account was closed. I continued to question the grading of my recent Tanzanite purchase and demanded that someone give me an answer. This is what they replied: "I have checked the system and the ring in question is graded as AA+ so it is somewhere between AA and AAA. Most of our tanzanite over 1ct was graded in this way where if it was over 1ct it would be graded as AAA. This has been changed in the last twelve months and we do not grade our Tanzanite the same way. As we have so many different quality stones available to us we wanted to offer as many different carat weights and graded stones as we could get." So I questioned them again and asked how many times in a year do you change the way you grade your Tanzanites? You are telling me that you've changed your grading system 3 times over the last 18 months? I said I believe your grading system changes with the supply of stones you have and how they will sell for the most profit. And since you keep changing your grading system, what does that mean for all the people who think they've purchased Triple AAA only to find after appraisal that it's only a Double AA or Double AA+? They responded with: "Grading a Tanzanite stone is personal opinion and is not a standardised grading system across businesses. We changed the way in which we grade the stones as we were having over 1ct stones that were A, AA and AA+ quality so we changed the way in which we grade these to give a true indication of what they are...." So why bother having this grading system if you are not going to be consistent within your own company and change the system to suit your purpose? What does that say to the consumer? I think they should start paying back the appraisal money to the consumers that have paid out to have their items appraised and find out they are not as described. I believe that would stop a lot of these willy nilly grading changes and trying to pull the wool over our eyes. As I had mention one time previously, a Double AA Tanzanite bracelet I purchased about 12 months ago was no where near the Double AA color of the two rings I purchased when RocksTV came on air. I had also told them that their Tanzanite grading system had nothing to do with the official Tanzanite Foundation grading system. If you really want to know the grade of your Tanzanite, take it to a jeweler right away and find out for sure. And I as I sit here watching another Tanzanite and Diamond show on The Lounge, I see that none of the Double AAs have sold out. They made such a big deal about owning Triple AAA graded stones that no one wants the Double AAs, except for the occasional large carat solitaires. They bit off their own foot. Another piece of information about Tanzanite. If you look at Gemval.com they provide charts on the historical value of gemstones. Right now, they are showing a major drop in the value of Tanzanite from a year ago. Something completely different than what TGGC is telling us. So now I'm thinking my investment for the future may be a big bust. They say I had too many returns. So what. If I were buying items from a local jewelry store, I would be able to see the items up front and personal and see if the items were to my liking or not. I could see if the colors were true or if there were any flaws. I can make my decision right there and know that I was buying a genuine gemstone with the colors and clarity I was looking for. Buying on line does not give a buyer the opportunity of inspecting their product, to see if there are any flaws, to check for clarity and to make sure the colors are true to the stone and to what the host is stating on the television. The Genuine Gemstone Company, as most other shopping channels, uses various tactics to sell their product. Anywhere from telling you how rare something is, to using a play on words, to using special lighting in studios to make the gems appear darker than they are and double packing their earrings in two bags of plastic and you can't take them out to even look at them. I realize it's a business, but I'm not in the business of paying out my hard earned money on jewelry that does not stand up to their hype on TV. They are always harping on the fact that you can return any item you're not happy with within 30 days and I always have done it within 30 days. No matter how much I shop or return to any of my local retailers whether it's shoes, clothing or home goods, I would never be told that I'm returning too much. If they did that to everyone, they would have no customers. Anything I have returned has been more than made up for by just one person buying a $3,000 Tanzanite Lorique ring. My items were usually under the $200 price tag. On another note, I can't tell you how many times they "lost" items I purchased. Specific pieces I knew I would not be returning. A few of them came back into the gemporia.com website several weeks later at higher prices. They should have some kind of system in place to contact customers whose purchases have been "lost" and then found. When RocksTV first started in July of 2012 here in the U.S. I was dumbfounded on how low the prices were. I confess I did buy a lot at first and I also returned many that I found to not be what they were advertising according to my jeweler. So then I was purchasing some items, but if I was not sure, I would cancel the order before Midnight. Then they told me I had to stop canceling. So, I started purchasing and had the orders go through and if I did not like the items, I returned them. Now that I have been only buying one out of 3 or 4 items, I'm not buying enough. It seems I can't win. I'm apparently not buying enough to suit them. Or maybe they just didn't like what I had to say about their grading system. Everything happens for a reason. There is some personal turmoil occurring in my family and I had told myself that I was going to stop buying until after Christmas. So, in a way, I guess this was a sign that my decision was a good one. Some final points to remember: *Tanzanite has been around for 50 years now and will probably still be here for another 20 years. This is a lot more product than say Csarite or Chrome Diopside. There are over 10,000 pieces of Tanzanite jewelry and loose stones on Ebay and other websites flooding the market; just be sure you get a genuine certificate from a genuine lab. **** Here is a statement made by an on line source (International Gem Society): "Another example is tanzanite. After the primary source closed, it skyrocketed in value. For some reason, as of this article’s writing (early 2014), Tanzanite has dropped dramatically in price and I’m regularly seeing medium grade cut material hit the market at $100 per carat or less, and top material going for $200 a carat all day long." [ Update to Tanzanite - I just saw in our local paper advertisement where a major chain store was selling a 1/2ct Total Weight (that's 1/4ct each) pair of earrings in sterling silver for only $20; I think I'm going to be ill] [UPDATE] From an Independant Jewelry Appraiser: "TIFFANY & CO WILL WANT YOUR TANZANITE-YOU WILL MAKE A FORTUNE!” - Not An unscrupulous jeweler convinces unsuspecting clients that they should buy tanzanite from him because the source of the gem is running out. He tells them that the stones are an investment and that when the source is depleted in the next year, Tiffany & Co. will be calling him to buy any tanzanite he knows of on the market. People buy the stones, paying much more than is normal in the market and hold on to them. The crooked jeweler goes so far as to have the buyers sign non-disclosure agreements about the transactions. Why it won’t work: While it is true that tanzanite is found in only one place, the source is still producing large amounts of gems. Also, Tiffany & Co. is not going to use a small town jeweler as a source for their stock. The quality of the material being sold was not of a high enough quality to interest Tiffany in any case. Furthermore, the unscrupulous jeweler charged about three times the market rate for the stones. Even though tanzanite has gone up in the years since the hoax was perpetrated, the market price for tanzanite is still not at the level that the victims were charged. [UPDATE] From Author of Understanding, Identifying and Buying Gemstones: Tanzanite The author properly states the grading systems used to sell tanzanite on TV shopping channels carry no validity. In the Appendix of the book, he reproduces the colored grading system of the Tanzanite Foundation. He states the higher degree of violet saturation, the greater the price. Actually, the Tanzanite Foundation grading scale makes the highest degree of violetish blue and the highest degree of bluish violet as equal. This is one problem with sellers creating a grading system. They create a system to reflect their inventory, not the true market. The bottom line is the blue the better in tanzanite. You want the violet to be the secondary color. * MORGANITE - May be Impregnated with wax to improve the luster. That way will eventually fade and you'll see the true color of the stone. May be Irradiated which lessens the value of the stone. There is no such thing as "Olive" Morganite; Morganite refers to the specific pink/peachy color of the beryl family; they place the name Morganite to it to make it sell better *Your CSARITE may be Vsi but the diamonds in the 10k gold are probably inferior i3/A4 Clarity and I to J Color; that's what happened to me; Csarite only shows it's color shift best in large stones of 3 carats or larger; I have purchased several stones that are nice and clean but will probably not be worth that much in the future; as I read more and more on Csarite/Diaspore I am being told that we are being duped on the shopping channels; smaller stones just don't have the color/change/shift; if you recall, GemsTV stated "color-change" in the beginning and then switched to stating "color-shift;" SEE atggems.com and find Diaspore; they discuss it extensively and give you the real facts, not what the shopping channels are telling us *Your pieces with diamonds will be worth more than the ones with Zircon *KUNZITE is also irradiated to show a better color so look for natural stones; be careful with Kunzite, TGGC doesn't tell you that if you wear it in the sun, it will eventually fade in color; Ice Kunzite is just colorless spodumene which is the least expensive of the spodumene family. In the gem world anything other than the purple/pink colors is not called Kunzite it is just called colorless or yellow spodumene. Rocks and GemsTV are just attaching the name Kunzite to the colorless forms to make you think you are still buying Kunzite. *EMERALDS are valued by their color first and then clarity; a lighter colored stone will not be as valuable *Fissure-Filled Rubies can be found anywhere; look for the non-filled ones; BE ALERT, their Star Rubies are also fissure-filled *CEYLON SAPPHIRES come in all shades of blue, but the darker are the most expensive and valuable but any of the shades you purchase should show a consistency in color throughout, not half blue and half clear as many of them came to me and I returned. *Fancy colored sapphires should not be fissure-filled; they are not as valuable and should have the best clarity you can find; watch out when they say "bright," and look at the item details; it may mean they have been diffused * ANAHI AMETRINE - I only kept one piece of Anahi Ametrine out of all the pieces I ordered. They obviously show the best ones on the TV; I have never received an actual 50/50 split or even a 60/40 split item; most have been 80/20 splits at best and almost so pale you can't even see the color split; make sure you take a good long look at it, the ones that are left which end up on The Lounge are usually almost one color (amethyst) *TGGC states it does not use "commercial" diamonds in their rings, but if you buy their diamonds in Sterling Silver you are most likely getting commercial graded diamonds. i1, i2 and i3 are included diamonds. They have inclusions visible to the naked eye. These inclusions negatively impact the transparency and brilliance of the diamond. Because of the budget I must abide by, I cannot afford even Si diamonds. But I do draw the line at i1 and i2 clarity. i3 will definitely impact the brilliance of the diamond. I know this because I did purchase an i3 diamond ring before I educated myself and I could see the inclusion on one of the invisible set stones and I should have returned it. All of my i1 and i2 rings still have beautiful brilliance and I can't see any inclusions in them. *Isn't it interesting how they now have so many LARGE CARAT WEIGHT Triple AAA or Quad AAAA Tanzanite stones that they are placing in 14k and 18k; where have they been all this time before the prices started rising ???? Think about it. And don't be so foolish as to believe them when they say that all of their Tanzanite is top quality in all of their designs. A tanzanite set in Sterling Silver will be much paler, than one set in gold overlay. A Triple AAA Tanzanite set in 10k gold will be lighter than one set in 14k and a Triple AAA Tanzanite set in 14k will be lighter in color than one set in 18K. **** If you're having REFURB hours, don't tell me you can't move on the price. During normal The Lounge hours, most of the hosts will play with us and make the buyer at least feel like they're getting a great price. But during a REFURB hour, you're asking me to purchase a damaged item and then you're telling me that you won't negotiate a slightly better price so that at least I won't feel like I'm getting damaged goods. Do you want to sell the item or not? Do you want to keep a good rapport with your customers or not? The Lounge really needs to re-think their stand on this..... * Once items have been on The Lounge, they should never go back to the regular falling auction sites (RocksTV and GemsTV); these items were on The Lounge because they were returned for size, quality or color Goodbye and Savvy Shopping.

Brilliant report, nothing is ever a bargain if it needs to be pushed so hard and"Wowed" up by the sales team. I stopped buying from Gems because of the paper thin ear-ring settings and the "with diamonds" claim was a disappointment when seen at home and I realised they were like grains of sugar. Gems is on air to make money and NOT to give value for money; their studio lighting makes the items appear to sparkle more than they do in real life and the colour can be "adjusted" in this way too.

I totally agree but the consumer is beginning to fight back why they have to lie and mislead people is beyond me. Always take your jewellery to a jewellers and have it looked at these people are swindilers at best and the presenters know this and continue to sell these items to people who have worked very hard this industry needs a big overall we need more people reporting them and we want investigations and criminal chargers brought a fraud is a fraud we all need to fight back

“Lots of poor quality, sold in bulk. ”

written by Deegan493 on 05/12/2014

Over the last 18 months I have purchased 3 different items, different gems, all of which fell well below expectation to the quality that had been on tv. I returned everything. Customer services called me twice, which is a nice touch to enquire why and if they could help. I politely explained that the items ( AA tanzanite earrings were very pale lilac not the blue that had been on tv) and ( sleeping beauty turquoise single stone pendant was badly marked and looked as if toothpaste had dribbled down it ). They explained that due to the nature of gems there are natural variations, I explained that thats why there should be quality control and a uniform guide to gem selection. I wasn't happy to have paid postage twice back and forth for inferior products and they credited my account £10. Over a year later I caught a glimpse of their Amertrine hour and was tempted to purchase a 6 carat gold ring. The presenter repeatedly gassed on about depth of colour and the colour split throughout the show and every item appeared to back up the claim. How unlucky was I to receive a ring that had no colour depth nor colour split? Just a pale grey pink stone. I believe the " stack them high and sell them cheap" because it's all worthless rubbish is the selling policy behind Gems TV. Just look at their tanzanites online and you can see vast colour differences in AA stones advertised there. It appears they have their own rating standards and/or no quality control worth having. On the plus side, they are good at refunds and on my experiences, polite. However I wouldn't buy from them again.

I AGREE WITH ALL YOU HAVE SAID.

ALSO, DON'T BELIEVE THEM WHEN THEY SAY THEY WON'T RAISE PRICES ON ITEMS MADE FROM ROUGH THEY PURCHASE A YEAR AGO. THAT IS AN OUT AND OUT LIE. I JUST SAW MY TANZANITE RING I PURCHASE OVER 2 YEARS AGO (SAME ITEM NUMBER) BEING SOLD FOR $100 MORE.

I definitely agree about the quality of their products. I also understand that they are in the business of selling. So you have to be aware that they will show the best of the lot on the TV. But it is poor business when the best one they show is the only one that has that depth of color. I have purchased many many Tanzanite and Anahi Ametrine items in the last 2-1/2 years and I have had to return many many items. In the beginning their AA Tanzanites could really have been considered AAA. The color was great. Then in this past year, I had to return many AAA that were no where near the AA stones I had purchased earlier. They seem to change their color grading system with the supply they have. I tried to argue with them over one item I purchased which they only graded AA+ yet it was over 1 ct and their policy a year ago was that anything over 1ct would be considered a AAA. Now that isn't true any more. I was furious and kept arguing with them. Now they looked at my account and said they are cancelling my account due to too many returns. Well, so what. You offer 30 day money back returns if I don't like the item. Your hosts even say "buy two or more" and keep the one that looks best to you and return the others. If I did that, that would also mean that I would return more than I bought. I still spent over $5,000 over the last 2 years of purchasing from this channel and I love what I did choose to keep, but I am pretty sure they did not like the way I was making them be up front about their grading system, so they cut ties with me.

I agree with what you have said about Tanzanite. I bought a ring advertised as Sterling Silver with blue stones depicted on the TV channel. When I received it, the stones were very pale lilac, and not really noticeable against the very dull 'silver'.

I have bought quite a few sterling silver rings from them and happy with them all (the ones I have kept, some I did not like I returned and refunded reasonably quickly) and all my sterling silver rings have '925' stamped on them.

The Tanzanite silver ring had no stamp, I told customer services and also about the pale lilac stones. Their response is they don't legally have to stamp unless the item is over so many grams of sterling silver, and the response to the depiction of dark blue stones on the TV channel and my receiving very pale lilac stones was that the ring was 'ungraded'. Unacceptable responses.

Despite that it was within the 30 day return limit customer services said I could return the ring, they might refund it out of goodwill or return it to me!

So, I felt obliged to keep it as I did not want to have to send it back and pay the postage, then find myself receiving the item back again and having to pay postage for that.

The 'silver' is very dull, so I tried to polish, masses of black coming off, used up two silver cleaning cloths and still masses of black on the silver.

So, I have started to doubt that it is real sterling silver and that it might be metal, hence no stamp, as all items of sterling silver I have ever bought off them have 925 at least stamped on (and I have some old items with hall marks).

As to the Tanzanite grading, I do believe it is their own grading system.. They do on about it on TV that it is so rare, if so, why are they always pushing it on TV?

I think the customer services are behaving not according to customers legal rights.

As an illustration of how customers rights should be applied is Amazon who will return and pay for postage both for if: A) item not the colour depicted on web site and B) if an item is dirty or tarnished and C) if you inform their customer services they will apologise.

“Show the real items and stop shining the lights to fool us”

★★☆☆☆

written by utMcBride18 on 13/09/2014

Sorry this is so long, but they need to know the kind of people they are making fools of. My daughter has gone off the rails a bit over the last few years. So at 49 I want to make sure my 9 year old granddaughter has a bit of a fall back when I'm gone and can't help her. I don't work now due to plates and pins in my left arm and leg and needing a knee replacement in my right knee that can't be done for another 6 or 7 years. All of which makes me unemployable, but not severe enough to claim DLA. When I first watched gems tv I "thought" my prayers were answered. If I could save enough of my benefits every couple of weeks I could start buying my granddaughter bits of what I hoped would be investments for when she got older. I listened carefully and hung off every word said about tanzanite and how it was 1000 times more rare than diamonds and would become depleted. Maybe not in my lifetime, but it wasn't for me it's to help my granddaughter. My price range ran as high as AA and after buying a 2 rings in silver, I was disappointed at how pale they were in comparison to the ones on TV. Of course I knew there'd be a slight difference due to the studio lights. When feefo asked me to write a review, I was honest and said all that. I was then sent a message saying there could always be a slight change in colour of the stone and that if I wasn't happy I could send the rings back for a no quibble refund. I did so, and asked the money to be saved from them towards something else and I saved towards a AAA tanzanite. Then I spotted a 5 stone tanzanite ring in AAA 10k gold. My thoughts were if what gems tv were saying about selling the stones individually was right. My granddaughter could get the stones taken out and sell them separately or whatever would make her the most momey. I added it to my basket. It didn't matter what size the ring was. It was about about the stones. Confirm. My shoes would have to wait till next time I got paid. Excitedly telling all my friends my plans I couldn't wait for the postman to delivery. Well it's here and after letting my granddaughter open her ring, I feel such a fool. It's not a dark bluey purple like shown on TV or website. It's only slightly more light purple than the pale AA. Despite holding the ring at every possible angle, the stones are no where near the size of the ones shown on the website. Flat instead of pointed in the picture. I feel so let down and fooled as I noticed the other night that Rachael Hatton was showing some tanzanite earrings and it looked like her hair had had "bluey purple" glow to it. Clearly down to the lighting in the "studio".... I would like to ask gems tv a question and give them a bit of advice. Q: Who gets the actual rings you show or do they go back in the safe to fool another day?. A: People outside"your" studio don't walk around with blue lighting above their tanzanite jewellery. Showing people what they are actually getting is much more honest and would save so many returns. It costs for us to buy the jewellery and even more to send items back as it has to be sent recorded delivery. So there's only one loser.

Dear Lady,
I understand what you mean with the lighting. I have been purchasing from RocksTV here in the U.S. for the last 2 years. When they first came on air here, I went a little loopy too because I thought there is no way you can sell this jewelry for these prices. So I did some self-educating. I purchased many, many pieces of all gemstones and I returned many, many pieces of gemstones. Over the last 2 years I have come to the realization that those first few months of watching and buying were sort of "come on" prices to get you involved. I have purchased many beautiful and rare gemstones that I will cherish. But now, as the months have gone by and turned into years, they have raised their prices across the board. They are trying to auction OLD Tanzanite stock at the higher prices. The Tanzanite quality has diminished. They use a "play on words" tactics to make you think you are getting the lowest price and I also think they darken or lighten the studio to make the gems look better than they are. At first, the studio lights were so bright, you couldn't make anything out and now it looks as if they have turned down the lights to make the pale stones look deeper than they are. I recently purchased 3 Tanzanite rings all of which are going back because they are paler than my original rings from 2 years ago. You really need to do the research to know what to look for. For example, Chrome Diopside comes from only one area, but my jeweler friend told me that only stones of 2 carats or larger are rare. Tanzanite maybe 1,000 rarer than diamonds, but in the future, only the large carat Triple As are what people will be fighting for. If you look on their website, they have over 1,000 designs of Tanzanite. If you go on Ebay, there are over 10,000 pieces of Tanzanite loose stones, not counting jewelry. The Top 5 gemstones are the best to invest in. Diamonds and gold will always be the main staple for investment. Rubies have to be blood red or of a high clarity to be valuable. Fissure-filled rubies can be found in any retail store. Siberian Emeralds are beautiful, but their color does not compare with Columbian or some of the better Zambian. With Emeralds it's the color that makes the value and then the clarity. Sapphire, you want to invest in good color Ceylon or make sure they are of a high clarity. I am sorry for your disappointment. I too have been disappointed many times with RocksTV but I have slowly educated myself and have cut back on my buying. Good Luck to you.

Hi.
Thank you for your reply. I know exactly how you feel. I recently went into a well know jewellers in the town centre and they had an ungraded tanzanite ring that was considerably darker than the one off gems that's graded as a AAA. I wish I could post a picture shown on the website of the ring I bought and an actual photo I'd take myself. It's disgusting. This ring will be going back 1st thing Monday morning and from now on I'll take "everything" the presenters say with a pinch of salt and won't buy anything over £20.
The best of it is I've just received a message from feefo asking me to review the ring. Only trouble is, I don't think they'd publish my comment.
Good luck with future buying Hun.

“Bad Ring Setting Quality”

★★☆☆☆

written by ygRogers174 on 04/06/2014

I have been a avid customer of yours and have spent thousands of pounds with Gems TV and Jewellery Maker. I am most upset about your customer service and will not be buying anymore jewellery or recommending Gems TV. The reasons for my upset is because up-to-date I have had 4 rings where the stones have fallen out after very little wearing. I am now also very afraid to wear any of my rings purchased from you because of the apparent poor quality of stone settings which may contribute to stone lose, this therefore renders the ring useless. 1. GXSV50 £89.99 Ruttle Quartze 9ct Gold Ring. The stone fell out after only wearing the ring twice. Gemporia would not rectify the situation because it was after the 30 day deadline. 2. PNSV34 £131.00 3 stone Morganite 9ct Rose Gold Ring. One of the 3 stones fell out after wearing approx. 6-10 times. Gemporia would not rectify the situation because it was after the 30 day deadline. 3. ?????? £19.99 Peridot Silver Ring. One stone fell out after wearing 12 times. Gemporia would not rectify the situation because it was after the 30 day deadline. 4. NVPS76 £349.00 Triple AAA Tanzanite 18ct Gold Ring. One stone fell out after wearing twice, this was repaired because in was within the 30 day timescale. As you will see from the above, the settings on your rings shows a possible quality issue and this is not covered by your guarantee if not found by the buyer within the 30 day deadline. Because of your quality problems I will have no option but to stop buying and also leave my findings on numerous review sites.

“Stone fell out and looked worse than on TV”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 14/07/2013

I bought a matching ring and pendant. It was my first time of placing a purchase and they had looked lovely on TV. When they arrived, the ring looked rather cheap and garish - it looked much MUCH better on TV. Then pendant looked better though, so I decided to keep that. But on the first day of wearing it - one of the gems fell out of the pendant. Luckily it had fallen into my pashmina so I was able to find it and keep it safe. I decided to send the pendant back as well after that as I had lost confidence that the other gems would be safe from falling out too. I still watch the TV show from time to time - but I find it can be a thief of time as its quite addictive to watch - I keep hoping to find something else to order - but so far I have refrained. I read from another reviewer who had purchased over 100 items - that when they reached the moment of sending back 10 items, at that point they were barred from ordering any more. If that is true - I feel I'd better be pretty sure about what I order as I've only got another 8 lives.

I bought a chocolate diamond ring last year and the centre stone has fallen out. Contacted Gems TV with no joy as they are not willing to do anything other than give me the contact details of their jeweller, so I can pay for a new diamond and repair. Their Aftercare is rude and non existent, once they have your money you have got no chance.

Absolutely, Gems TV just want your money for market stall quality stuff. It is all hyped up by the WOWING and OOING sales team - after all that is what they are paid to do - SELL. Once bitten and all that, stay away, it is just cheap tat nowadays. They even have their own word for gold plate: OVERLAY which is as thin as tissue paper. Should be investigated by a Consumer Department like Trading Standards, if only to stop them using special lighting to enhance the stones - when they arrive they always look flat and lack sparkle. It is definitely rejects/seconds/tat and I wish Trading Standards would take it off the air.

“no credit for returned ring”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 05/07/2013

I have been waiting 5 weeks for a £46 refund after I sent a multi sapphire ring due to a chip in one stone, and metal in it, a drill hole in another and black dots in all of the stones still not heard anything rubbish. Was hoping for a credit to buy another ring to see if quality the same on other stones!!!!

“Cheaper on Amazon”

written by on 16/06/2013

recently purchased a black diamond ring which i have just found £30 cheaper on Amazon. I shall be returning it as soon as it arrives. Previously purchased rings that had to be returned because the stones fell out. I have however purchased some bargains. Just remember, you get what you pay for.

I, too, purchased a ring and a stone fell out within an hour of getting it. Returned it to Gems.tv and after 2 weeks still no reply. The diamond and silver bracelet which I bought broke. Discovered that the links were only held to gether with very tiny, very fragile pieces of wire!

“Talk about Tanzanite City!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 03/05/2012

I purchased an Ammonite Ring from Gems, the Ring that the TV presenter demonstrated was Beautiful with lovely Bright colours...reds, blues and greens... so I ordered one. Unfortunately the one that I received was dark and dull, it was basically just dark green with a hint of dark blue and I was very disappointed with it. I didn't send it back as I'd read in other reviews that some customers had returned items with the tags intact, only to be told by Gems CS that the tags had been removed and they'd refused to refund on that basis...I mean..how would one ever prove that the tags were intact when sent back! Another niggle of mine is that Gems presenters are always claiming that Tansanite is a thousand times rarer than diamond, yet they seem to have enough of it to fill the Albert hall, everytime I flick onto the channel they are peddling Tanzanite, and its such a boring Gemstone, I can't see the attraction with it at all to be honest. I also find some of the presenters to be annoying and completely OTT with their hard sell tactics, bigging the items up to be something that they're simply not, Lynne Jinx is one of the worse for making the most outrageous claims regarding Gems jewellery, infact it was on her elaboration of the Ammolite quality that I took the plunge and paid almost £200.00 for the Ammolite Ring, I could kick myself for having bought into it.

If you intend to buy anything else from this channel, do what I did - record what you are watching (you can always delete it afterwards if you dont need to keep the recording) then when you get the item if it is nothing like as good as what you recorded, create a DVD of the recording, ring them straight away to complain and then send it back with the DVD and a complaint letter. I got a full refund of my postage as well as for the item on doing this. I have never bought anything since though (and wouldnt).

“Congratulations if your order turns up!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 08/03/2012

I have attempted to purchase items from Gems TV a multitude of times, via their website. Easy enough to order, yet when purchase has been confirmed, my orders disappear! No items get delivered, luckily no money leaves my account or else there would be trouble, and no sight of me ever having ordered when I log into my account. On the first occasion, I contacted them and was told my payment details were wrong (they never bothered to contact me re this)and I could not have all the items I ordered as they had been sold. The two items which did arrive, one was the wrong size and the other had to make do as this was a christmas present. If I had a choice, the item would have gone back as the amethyst was disgustingly cloudy. Since then I have attempted to make two more purchases with the same consequences as above. But most recently (today) I placed an item I saw online in 'my basket' and when I went an hour later to pay, the item had been removed!!! Shoddy, shoddy, shoddy.I have lost all faith in this company and will not be purchasing with them again.

“do not buy diamonds go to your local jewellers”

★★☆☆☆

written by annawilkinson1234 on 22/10/2011

I have bought several pieces of jewellery from Gems Tv and some have been fine. The silver jewellery seems good value and pretty. However I bought a half carat diamond ring for £190.00 from them and was very disappointed. The gold shank was so thin that I thought it would bend. The ring was not spectacular in any way. However I kept it because I didn't want the bother of sending it back. Stupidly, I then ordered a 2 carat diamond bracelet for nearly £800.00. When it came I could hardly believe it. It looked cheap, thin and greyish. I wore it for a total of one hour and the very thin catch broke. I took it to my local jewellers and asked if it could be repaired. I did not tell him where I got it from. He said that owing to the very cheap design, the catch could not be repaired because the heat needed for the repair would damage the diamonds. He said that the 9k gold setting was more like gold wire and very light and that the diamonds were not good as they were very tiny and did not sparkle as they should. He said it was showy and that that was it. In his opinion it was not worth what I had paid for it or anything like. I have packed it up and am sending it back. I hope I get my money back. Incidentally I bought a beautiful 18k diamond second hand diamond bracelet from him for £695.00. Looking at the two bracelets together is like night and day. DO NOT BUY DIAMONDS FROM GEMS TV. Go to a good trusted jeweller.

i totally agree with you. Bought a gold chain-looked thinner then what was shown and the clasp broke when I wore it.Similar ruby silver ring i bought two stones fell out. I now only buy from my local jewellers and the quality is superior as is the gold and stones.

Amazed you didn't send back easy and inexpensive to do. Agree on some points did same with a diamond ring, gold was thin but sent back and refunded straight away. Companies need to know what's wrong to help make improvements.

i have just received my latest buy from gemstv i am totally annoyed at the quality of the aaa tanzanite and diamond ring the colour is so poor there is no way you can see other colours in the tanzanite as you can only just see that its blue,on screen they said what a lovely deep blue and you could see the blues and pinks and the fire in the stone
etc in the stone, the diamonds can only just be seen with a magnifying glass. and to put the top hat on it it came with no authenticity card confirming that it was a triple a tanzanite and diamond ring in 9ct gold i have emailed gems and had no reply so its going back and i would never buy anything from gems that costs more than twenty pounds in future this was a chance to get the ring of my dreams and i have been really let down by gems exagerating the products they are selling

I think you were polite just to say they were exagerating, they lie about the colours all the time. Some of the colours are like glass, especially Sky Blue Topaz, on TV it looks a lovely blue, when it arrives it is almost colourless. They probably have one item to show on telly that is ok, but the majority of people receive poor quality Seconds that would not pass Quality Control, if they had QC, which they abviously do not.

I used to buy a lot of items from here, then there was a change in management. The quality became diabolical, the service worse and the prices higher. The company has been bought back by the original owners but the jewellery remains cheap and tacky. I purchased a few things, and to the untrained eye they look fine, but really the stones are badly set, the gold is scooped out instead of sturdy and solid, they take over a month to issue a refund. In addition the stones are low grade (particularly the diamonds) and are practically worthless. They are included, cut badly and the presenters insist that because they are graded they are good. They are graded I. I for included. This is a BAD diamond, but they never explain that. Really not impressed at all.

I found this review very helpful because my experience is similar. I note that the rings now sometimes only have under 2 grams of gold, which won't wear well at all. Sometimes looks like the metal work has lots of fine scratches on it too from seeing close ups on screen.
<br/>
<br/>The grading of diamonds as 'I' means that they are imperfect and not worth having. They seem to be getting diamonds from India as well, perhaps this is why so many of them are graded at I. My experience also that the service is worse and prices so high not worth it.

Gems TV has gone downhill since about 2008. The diamonds are terrible, grains of sugar are larger, not worth having. They say you get what you pay for, so you could probably find decent jewellery at an independent jewellery shop, where prices can often be negotiated. Gems know nothing about diamonds, there is so much to learn and most of us do not understand the grades. Gems know that the average person does not understand the "4 C,s(cut, clarity colour carat), but will have heard of them so they try and sell by throwing grades into the Sales Patter which makes the stuff sound better than it is.

Send the whole crew to Amsterdam where the working diamond museum could start their "Diamond" education., If they took some of their "Grains" of diamonds there, at least it would raise a laugh.

I have bought from GemsTV for over a year now. In the beginning, their jewelry was fantastic, beautiful! I have to say that the last few items I have purchased were NOT what they appeared to be on TV. However, they do say it is magnified x22. It is very deceiving. The items are so much smaller than they show on TV. I purchased a dendritic quartz ring, a new gem. It was absolutely the biggest disappointment EVER! The stone was dull and there were no "trees" in it. It went back. The silver omega chain was my first purchase. It tarnished. I called them and they told me to buy one of their cleaning cloths. I did. It hasn't helped. I have to clean it "daily" with this cloth, but it will never look like it did when I purchased it. I actually have sent back at least 40+ items because they were not as they appeared on TV. I'm so done with GemsTV. The addiction is so over.

I stopped buying from this company when the diamond ring I ordered was sugary and cloudy and not as advertised . High street jewellers have better stones . Not impressed at all with gems tv .

I personally wouldn't buy any diamonds or anything else from them due to my own experience, so why not shop with a company that will fullfill your wishes.
