“Bosch BX3”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 09/09/2015

I bought the clear green Bosch BX3 model new around 2010 I think, possibly before. It seems to be designed for a house that is vacuumed regularly, as like other reviews state it clogs very quickly. When the filters are clean it has very powerful suction, but this quickly diminishes (in minutes for a very dusty room). The particulate filter needs to be cleaned after every use (a messy job that should be done outdoors). If the filter isn't kept clean it will blow dust from the rear of the machine. I just realised there is also a HEPA filter, I'll try cleaning this too, but the suction reduction has always been an issue anyway. I give credit for the fact the motor still works fine after all these years, it at least seems to be of high quality. Cheaper motors tend to fail quickly. If used on regularly vacuumed carpets it may work for you (as it is powerful if the filters are kept clean), but it really clogs far too quickly to be recommended for heavy duty use. This was a rare purchase I made without checking prior reviews, lesson learned.

“HAVE never been able to figure out how to open and empty.”

There is very weak suction, and the Bosch BX3 ALL rounder is very difficult to open to clean out the dust box. What are the two rocket shaped things on the top for, Ive never been able to figure what they are for so I have never tried using it since the first difficult couple of times. Useless. I dont like anything about it and am VERY DISSAPOINTED. Total waste of money.

I went to Carrefour to buy my first vacuum cleaner, so I was advised to pick the Bosch BX3 as the price was decent and the brand was respected. The first two days of use surprised me because the hose was severely clogged with carpet lint. I had to manually empty out the hose that contained over and ounce of fluff!

The next surprise was the handle snapped off and the suction power just lowered to the point where it doesn't do a decent job. I Have a cat and rugs that need to be kept clean, sadly, the Bosch BX3 is a disgrace and a great disappointment in my experience of my first vacuum cleaner.

The vacuum emits a blast of air as well when the power is switched on, blowing dust in my face! Thank you for leaving me with a wonderful experience, Bosch.

I think the company ought to call this product the "Bosh BS x3" as it is nothing but useless none sense.

This Bosch BX3 Pets hoover is useless. I had one and the plastic catches broke so I received a replacement and within months the handle snapped off. It is poorly made with cheap fittings. I would never purchase one again!

This Bosch BX3 Pets vacuum cleaner has dirtied the good name of Bosch for me. Why any company would allow this product to be manufactured is beyond me. It's expensive rubbish and not worth considering.

Just a few things with my Bosch BX3 Pets: Plastic is brittle. Handle came off in my hand after just one year
- Lever to detach dust compartment snaps too easily
- Dust compartment needs to be forced off due to poorly designed lever system
- Filters clog after about 2 minutes use
- Adjustable speed is a joke, given that on anything less than high power you get no suction
- Not very maneuverable; topples over easily
- Dust emerges from the back and will blow in your face
- Lead retract does not work very well.

This is the WORST vacuum cleaner ever made in my opinion. I have a Bosch fridge and a Bosch washing machine and they're excellent, but this piece of junk is AWFUL. The filter clogs within 30 seconds and as far as I can fathom, you can't even clean the filters so when all suction is lost (doesn't take long) you just end up brushing dirt around. Even the automatic cable recoil doesn't work. I thought the Dyson I had before was bad but this takes the biscuit. RUBBISH.

Very disappointed with Bosch BX3 Pets - I have trusted this brand, but not anymore. It has all negatives what a vacuum cleaner can have. Filter should be cleaned every 2 minutes.
Very noisy, without suction power
Really poor maneuverability, it can flip on it's side easily while it is hard to pull it on carpet.
Very bad overall quality.

Where do I start, it worked for a few weeks only so I took it back, they only offered an exchange no refund. The second one was just as bad, the suction lasts for about 3 minutes then the filter needs to be cleaned, emptying the thing is a nightmare you have to press three different buttons in sequence, press the wrong one and it empties into vacuum cleaner, then you cannot get the container closed.

Tried emailing the company - no joy there. I did notice on their web site there are no bagless vacuum cleaners listed anymore.

I actually bought this after reading a review in Which which had it among the best buys. I don't know what planet they were on when they reviewed it.
I have bought Bosch products for a while: dishwasher, washing machine, fridge. But no more.

written by on 26/02/2008

Very disappointed. The updraw on the Bosch BX3 deteriorates to not much after about two months. The filters have to washed practically every time you have used it so as to maintain any function and pick-up. Sometimes i ended up vacuuming just using the little head attachment in order to pick up all the bits off my carpet as the updraw was so reduced. Manoeuvrability - poor. It falls over often when moved which results in the updraw disappearing! You then have to stop and empty the machine to regain any updraw. I eventually took my vacuum back for a refund as the body of it had cracked and broken in 3 places. I was very careful in using it and caring for it too. Poorly manufactured.

Suction is no good at all. The filter needs to be cleaned every 2 minutes. The cable does not go back in. Very disappointed and will never buy Bosch again.

"It has always been an unbearable thought to me that someone could inspect one of my products and find it inferior in some way. For that reason I have consistently tried to produce products which can withstand the closest scrutiny - products which prove themselves to be superior in every respect."
Robert Bosch 1861-1942 (as quoted on the Bosch website)

Dear Bosch,

We own a range of your products - including a fridge/freezer, a washing machine, a dryer, and a dishwasher.

Recently, we purchased a vacuum cleaner from Argos, specifically a Bosch BX3 Pets Bagless Cylinder Cleaner.

Unlike our experience with your other products, we were very disappointed with the vacuum cleaner. We eventually got a full cash refund from Argos after threatening to take them to small claims court (they were suggesting that a refund in Argos vouchers would suffice).

We also contacted your office in Milton Keynes, where we were told we could write to Germany "and see if they respond." The clear implication being that the German Office and Bosch more generally could not care less what we thought.

We were offered a repair and our concerns were noted on a computer. However, we could not help forming the view that Bosch had absolutely no intention of taking our concerns about the vacuum cleaner seriously.

This is a shame because frankly the Bosch BX3 Pets Bagless Cylinder Cleaner barely deserves the description "Cleaner." In our experience it is more likely to make things dirty than clean.

Our specific concerns include:

- the cleaner clogs in two places i.e. where the hose connects to the base unit and at the first micro filter. These two places (which are difficult to get to) need to be cleaned about every 2-3 minutes of the machines active use. After cleaning, the operator than needs to wash their hands.

- the main compartment for dust also fills very quickly and is prone to clogging. It is nearly impossible to open and when it does open usually the bottom opens simultaneously. This results in the dirt and dust being emptied into the compartment of the vacuum cleaner. This in turn is difficult to clean. If you do not clean it then when the machine is switched on again, dust is blown all over the carpet where you have just been vacuuming.

- the net result of the two points above is that when someone is cleaning with the Bosch BX3 Pets Bagless Cylinder Cleaner, they are continually cleaning themselves, the vacuum cleaner, and the area where they have just clean.

- the bottom lid which is supposed to keep the main dust and dirt compartment closed, does not close properly (i.e. even when closed it leaks dust and dirt) or at all (for most of the time we have had our Bosch BX3 Pets Bagless Cylinder Cleaner, we have not been able to close the compartment at all. This means the vacuum cleaner is never operating with a full capacity or suction.

- the retractable cord does not retract properly and to have even a chance of it retracting you have to pull it out fully and then hope that it will retract all the way BUT if it does not then you have to start again.

In short, the Bosch BX3 Pets Bagless Cylinder Cleaner is not what we expected of a Bosch product and really not fit for purpose as a vacuum cleaner, period.

We are also very disappointed with the response that we had from your customer service department. It was pretty clear that the views of the end user where not important and that there was inadequate or no means for reflecting our views back to those who are responsible for putting your products on the market.

We will think long and hard before putting our trust in Bosch again.

Yours sincerely,

I purchased vacuum in January 2007 - within 3 weeks the handle broke off.
Found exactly same problems with clogging up - need to clean out dust container and filters after every use which creates an extra chore. This wears out clips on flimsy plastic casing. The whole lot came undone while I walked down the stairs and I hurt myself trying to catch it. I also found I got extremely hot to the point of almost burning myself.

Cord does not wind back easily.
Contacted Bosch again and they sent an engineer out who made comments on PC and took the cleaner away.
Although we are very contented with Bosch fridge/freezer and dishwasher - this vacuum cleaner is full of design faults.
The 1st time I called Bosch to inform them about broken handle, the lady at customer service. was making VERY clear that in case no fault was found, I had to pay for call-out, not listening to what I was trying to tell that even though it could be repaired it would go faulty again.

Still awaiting reply from Bosch after the cleaner has been taken away (6 days later)

Overall, stay well clear from this product. It is not more than a glorified big dustbuster which needs a lot of maintenance to keep it working.
