“Poor Services in migrating website from one to another”

★☆☆☆☆

written by mrohila on 23/05/2021

Poor Services in migrating website from one to another account, Took 3 days still the issue resolved. 1. Service expired within one account so decide to migrate website from another account 2. Deleted website from the expired account so that domain will be free ( Siteground support team claim that domain will be free within one hour of service deletion) 3. But domain is added to some other dummy account by siteground team and they were suggesting me to login into that account and deleted the site but as account doesn't belong to me then how can i access and delete the services? 4. spoke to many team members over the chat and ticket, took 3 days but the issue is still unresolved. 5. They want another one day stating that we have sent an email to the dummy account holder to delete the services . 6. so finally after 72 hours, i decide to deleted all the services from siteground and move all the services to some other hosting provider. Guys, i personally recommend you to not to choose siteground due to poor services and support team is just a bunch of clowns who play with you over the chat and tickets.

“Be warned of hidden charges”

★☆☆☆☆

written by yeAllison96 on 02/11/2014

This company seems legitimate, but be very wary of hidden service charges. Especially when trying to cancel their services.

Siteground's Comment

Written on: 20/11/2014

Hello yeAllison96, all our service charges are clearly stated on the sign up page and also in our TOS. It is indeed possible that a cancellation fee was requested when cancelling a service, but this fee usually covers our costs for domain names and/or other third-party services that we prepay on your behalf. We do not receive refund for them if cancelled, so it is not possible for us to refund the entire amount paid. Unfortunately we cannot check your exact case, since we do not have enough information to identify your account. But if you wish send us more information at news at siteground dot com and we will be glad to investigate and check if we can find a suitable solution for you. Regards!

“Unethical billing practices”

★☆☆☆☆

written by wumbriac on 30/04/2013

These guys get your credit card number and use all the tricks in the book to "autorenew" for things you didn't ask for. Be very wary, since they don't give much chance to decline. You sign up for one month for a low price, and then told you will "autorenew". What they didn't tell you is that they will autorenew you for 12 months, not one. Then in the middle of summer vacation they indicate that they will "automatically sign you up for premium services". I didn't ask for premium services, and I am now on vacation without my login information. After scrambling, I finally avoided that charge. Finally my year has come to an end, but they do not give any option to renew DNS but not hosting. Oh well, Good-Bye siteground forever!! And now you can't give them a normal Google review either. They've managed to "fix" that too.

Siteground's Response to wumbriac's Review

Hello,

I have checked your case in detail. Please let me just add two clarifications - your account was indeed renewed for 12 months - this is the minimum renewal period in our system. We always inform our customers in at least two emails about the upcoming renewal and explicitly mention the 12 months period since accounts cannot be renewed for a shorter period and we understand that this information is very important for customers who initially purchase a 1 month hosting account.

Customers that do not wish to renew have the option to cancel the account or in case they overlook the emails and are billed, there is always the option to contact us so we can find a solution for the situation together.

Nevertheless, I am very sorry that our billing terms have caused you inconvenience during your summer vacation. I will make sure to forward your feedback to the person in charge.

Kindest Regards!
Marina

Since this sounds a whole lot like "she said", "she said", I'll keep it brief. After reviewing my "autorenew" emails there was no mention of the autorenew period in them. Perhaps this was mentioned upon logging, in, or after following some other link from the email? It is possible. If SiteGround insists this information was in the email itself, that is fine. My warning still stands to read all the fine print very very carefully. Oh, and if you decide to cancel your hosting, they automatically cancel your DNS - no choice. Nice. Avoid these people!

“Signed up with Site ground for a year, just for...”

Signed up with Site ground for a year, just for testing purposes. I didn't realise it included automatic renewal.

After 1 year, they automatically charged my credit card for another years hosting - at more than 10 times the price than the last year.

I tried to cancel the account. They said it was non-refundable. finally they agreed to downgrade my account to a 3 monthly payment and refund the extra 9 months hosting. But wanted to charge an extra $30 downgrade fee.

So far, I've still not been refunded...

used the free testing period and then canceled because it wasn't what I needed. Site Ground sent me an email confirming the cancellation. Then, they proceeded to charge my credit card $130 for three months of a service that is supposed to cost $7.95/month. They are still refusing to reimburse the charge.

“Sales person from Site Ground called to remind me to...”

Sales person from Site Ground called to remind me to renew. I was busy and distracted, so I just gave my card number and renewed for two years. Found out when I checked with my partner that we had already switched to a different host, so I immediately called to cancel. After repeated attempts I finally was able to get someone on the phone and cancel the service, but was told I could not get a refund. I have since been calling every number I can find for them and emailing repeatedly, but to no avail. I tried to stop payment on the account, but it had cleared so quickly I was unable to.

“After telling SiteGround "you're fired" after 1 hour...”

written by Sordo Mudo on 05/07/2007

After telling SiteGround "you're fired" after 1 hour as a client, I found another hosting company. When it came time to transfer my domain name to new company, from SiteGround, to my fury I found that SiteGround had locked my domain. Yep, they locked my own property, so I couldn't move it.

This resulted in more time wasting frustration to have said domain unlocked.

Very frustrating, definitely not recommended!

Heck with these scammers! I'll just get a refund and be down the road. But SiteGround has one last surprise: the refund you THOUGHT you'd get... he went on a diet. The Big Fat Payment you made up front, he limped out of the SiteGround office wasted away, like a walking skeleton. After all the hidden charges were deducted, your refund was almost enough for an Ice Cream Cone. Without the Ice Cream. But it could have ended worse; as they tossed the chipped cone at your feet, they politely smiled and said "Have a nice day!"

SiteGround www.siteground.com has a good customer service, you could not run any CMS because of restriction.
Anyway, a lot of negative reviews are erased at a glance from most of review sites
