I and my mother before me always used oxo cubes - however since the introduction of monosodium glutomate into the ingredient I have had to leave it on the shop shelf as it causes me to have diarrhoea - why oh why was it added? I have asked other people who have also stopped using it for the same reason.

“What is a Kitchen without the famous Oxo cube? What is...”

What is a Kitchen without the famous Oxo cube? What is a cook without Oxo? Empty and flavourless!

These little Stock Cubes have been around for more years than I can remember!
Oxo Beef have so many uses in the kitchen!

They can be used to flavour any Beef dish superbly, and not JUST Beef; the gorgeous rich taste and aroma makes a meal stand up and shout EAT ME!

They can be used for any red meat dishes to add flavour and yummyness. They may be a little too strong for Lamb dishes. I mix one Beef cube with chicken Oxo for Lamb dishes, giving a rich but slightly more subtle flavour, allowing the lovely lamb flavour to be savoured rather than drowned!
Can be added to Beef stews, casseroles, Spag Bol, Cottage Pie, any mince dish and so much more! Will liven up the bland unusual taste of Liver and onions into something sensational!

And if Gravy is all you want, then Oxo Beef it is! Crumble into a jug, add boiling water, stir and thicken to taste by pouring into the juices from the meat mixed with a little Cornflour. Oxo is also available as an instant gravy if time is of the essence! But that is another review!

On a cold Winter's evening when you arrive home and need a little warm up drink, Oxo Beef is just perfect. Just crumble a cube into a mug, pour on boiling water and stir. Pepper may be added for extra zinginess if preferred. Lovely, warm and comforting.

For those of you counting calories, this one is low! It is only 17 calories per cube, 0.4g of fat.

Feeling under the Weather or recovering from illness? This is a great drink to perk you up, as it contains a whole lot of goodness in every cube.

Oxo Beef is very reasonably priced! I have been able to purchase a box of 24 from Poundland, but the recommended price is £1.69. There are often offers in the Supermarkets.

The ingredients in these cubes are as follows:
Wheat Flour
Salt
Yeast Extract
Maize Starch
Flavour Enhancers (Monosodium Glutomate, Disodium Guanylate)
Colour (Ammonia caramel)
Beef Fat
Autolysed Yeast Extract
Flavourings
Dried Beef Bone Stock
Sugar
Onion Extract
Onion Powder

The directions for use could not be more simple! Just crumble between fingers and thumb onto food whilst cooking and stir! I use three in a cottage pie or with liver for a stronger flavour, but you can adjust how much you use to your own taste.
Then just taste the difference!
