I was the same as Taylor when i brought my staffy pup home at 5 weeks old. We give him webbox puppy complete because of the omega 3 and 6 oils and then a pouch of pedigree puppy and he is a thriving 14 week old at 7kg and the most handsome shiny coat you could ever see. I recently bought a pedigree Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy. He was only five weeks old when I brought him home, and he had been rejected by his mother soon after birth. On day two he stopped eating. I'd been soaking Weetabix in milk and feeding him the IAMS brand of puppy food, but he started turning his nose up at these meals, and I was beside myself wondering what to do for the best. After two full days of him refusing so much as a mouthful of chicken puppy food, I took him to the vet as he was visibly losing weight. I was basically told he was much too young to leave his mum and the loss of appetite could be down to pining, and if this was the case there was a possibility he'd simply starve himself to death. I was distraught, and took it upon myself to get him eating again. I spotted Pedigree Puppy in Tesco and decided it was worth a shot. The Pedigree Puppy pouches are a specially concocted variation of standard Pedigree dog food, only it contains more of the vitamins which a pup needs to grow into a healthy dog. The Puppy Pouch variety is also exclusively packed in pouches to retain more natural vitamins than would be found in canned puppy food. A box of eight pouches costs £2.98 in Tesco, or you can buy them singly for around 39p. Each 150g pouch is one meal for your puppy, and printed on the box is a basic feeding guide based on weight, so you can easily work out how much your pup should be eating over the day.

From his point of view, I can see Pedigree Puppy would be pretty appetising. The chunks of meat are much smaller than normal adult dog food, which is important, as most puppies would choke on even the smallest bit of chicken. He ate this with trepidation at first, doing that dog sniffing and snorting thing. I did my best to ignore him and closed him in the conservatory for an hour with his food to see if he'd eat a bit if no-one was around. After a full hour of watching him through the window, I was rewarded, he ate it. The lumps of meat didn't cause him any problem at all, and I think the generous jelly coating made it even easier for him to swallow what was basically his first solid food. The Chicken & Rice variety probably has the best smell because it's a very bland, thin aroma which doesn't really smell like dog food at all, more like Chicken Noodle soup.

Dispensing the food from pouch to dish is very easy. The top of the pouch rips off easily and then you simply squeeze the food into the dish. This can easily be accomplished with one hand while holding a wriggling puppy in the other. The food will come out in a kind of soft slab shape, which you can always separate with a fork, and it's so soft that he can eat it easily. Buying the box of eight is probably the best bet in the first instance. The box contains a sample of each of the four pouch varieties, and I could easily learn the flavours which he was going to favour.

Pedigree Puppy pouches did the trick. He is now nine weeks old and he's thriving. He's put on weight, runs around playing, and he generally seems a happy little dog. I honestly put most of this down to Pedigree Puppy pouches. I tried everything I could think of to get him to eat, but he wasn't interested. I think this food has just the perfect amount of flavour to attract a puppy and make him want to eat.

It basically saved his life.
