“USA Three city trip”

★★☆☆☆

written by JoeBabs on 07/09/2016

Booked for a trip to San Francisco, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. We have booked three holidays in a year with them spending a quite considerable sum of money. Before setting off the Darlington Branch or rather a male employee printed off the tickets without actually the tickets for the two internal flights, my wife spotted this on her return home, back the next day and it took three members of staff between them numerous attempts to work out what to print, again my wife was assured that we now had everything we needed, returning home and sitting down again she then spotted that my internal flights were missing, third attempt/visit, this time they again said that now everything was accounted for. On landing in San Fran. the details sent us to a transfer company outside the terminal, all was well until our arrival at the hotel and then the driver insisted he take our only copy of the paper which as you know is pretty much all you get these days, seemingly we should have had two, one for our return although how were we to know this. Hays deny any of this happened even to the point they say we did not speak to a rep at the airport, except we had to so we knew which mini bus to go to.After spending time contacting Hays via email they did email us the copy we needed, so easy to have printed off two at home, thing is i don't think they they knew themselves, you be the judge. The rest of the holiday went well except in Vegas the hotel there gave us a slum of a room which we refused, they then offered another, all in a hour or so of waiting, the second was a disabled room and you can imagine it was functional and not what we had booked but we did not know this until check out,we asked what grade the room was and we were told standard but the guy said you should have had a deluxe !! again we just didn't know it wasn't as we had no measure......we were told by a staff member in the hotel the rooms you see in a brochure are there to make it look nice !! what a statement but true. The very least we thought for the hassle and rubbish rooms bearing in mind what we have spent with them in a year also, was the room premium deluxe over and above the standard refunded. They have refused to acknowledge they have caused any problem and again tell us we are mistaken and why didn't we refuse the second room, if they are sending folk there surely they should take some responsibility and ensure thousands of miles from home you get what you pay for.Their attitude and accusations we are liars means we will never set foot in there again, we have just booked another holiday for November and so they have already lost one sale. We write this purely out of frustration and being accused of lying and hope it will help others realise they cannot rely on them to guide or provide or admit fault.

“poor service from head office”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 18/03/2015

we booked our break in Tenerife through bath travel in Broadstone. Having booked there on the odd occasion before we thought we would be ok. Not realising at first they had been taken over by Hays travel. Boy how wrong we were. We caught our flight on time. when we landed in Tenerife we waited 2 hours for our included transfer to Puerto de la cruise. The hotel we were booked into could not take us so we were transferred to another hotel 100 metres away. We did not get the facilities we paid for. When we complained on our return we were told we should have rang the number given to us, this of course is after a long day travelling. We were first offered a £50 travel voucher. This was declined saying we paid in cash not vouchers. after several letters to and fro we were eventually given £50 cash. I believed bath travel was a reputable company, what a pity they were taken over by this company. The voucher was no good to us as we cannot travel this year. Be aware that I cannot recommend hays travel as I think we were treated in a terrible fashion.

“Couldn't care less!”

★★☆☆☆

written by RuswarpBoy on 23/09/2011

The first impressions having booked the holiday were good with quick e-mail follow up. From then on it goes downhill. Not all the paperwork arrives. The hotel description is not 100% accurate and with airline, hotel ownership and transfer agents all different third parties with no apparent process management from Hays you trust to luck that everything works. It doesn't. Having being let down on private transfer back to the airport and having to pay personally for a taxi it only took from July to now, the end of September for them to communicate with their transfer agent and give me a response. And surprise, surprise - my fault not theirs so tough! I am tempted to go to the small claims court which will actually cost me more than the taxi fare of €20 but hopefully anyone reading this will stop them from putting business Hay's way and cost them more in the long run. They clearly don't care about their clients.

ditto, went with them to vegas & LA and the same as you , no transfer when we got to LA but guess what same as you my fault not theirs & it cost us $230 they said they had sent us vouchers by e.mail but nothing came my way. They are very good at getting out of complaints perhaps they run courses in it (chaired by Dick Turpin), they have a plaster for every sore. If anyone else reads this please dont use Hays Travel.

“I went to Menorca with Hays last year, we booked 8...”

★★☆☆☆

written by RosieS on 07/02/2011

I went to Menorca with Hays last year, we booked 8 mths before because we only wanted to go to Cala Galdana as we were going in August and my family have problems with burning in the sun. The day before the holiday Hays rang to say the hotel was overbooked and we had to go to a different resort, Son Bou, which was miles away and very open and bleak. After an afternoon of many phone calls, arguing and threatening to claim compensation (as advised by ABTA) a supervisor rang and said we were in the Cala Galdana hotel after all. By then I was exhausted and very behind with packing and organising - not a good start, never again, although everything went smoothly from then on.

“Was overcharged £40 and when we called to enquire...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 24/05/2010

Was overcharged £40 and when we called to enquire there was no one able to explain it to us and we got the usual evasive, difficult, obnoxious, ignorant call centre staff that you would expect with a budget company.

They were at the time of booking though by far the cheapest around, but my advice would be to pay the extra 10% for a more reputable company because this lot could really ruin your summer if you had serious problems.

Our apartment had spiders, ants and other things the wrong side of the walls, although we were given a balcony with sea view which we weren't expecting.

If you want no frills then take the risk and on a more positive note, our flight turned up and the apartment existed, which may be all you want.

We've booked to go to Florida in November and have used Travel Service Floridawho are part of Hays Travel. The price is excellent and Andy Jackson has been brilliant. Just wondering if anyone has used this company before to go to Florida?
