We have just had the most enjoyable holiday on the thompson destiny ship. the staff are all very friendly very helpfull and always smiling. The itinery was good but we went to british virgin isle twice which really once you have been you dont want to go again, but maybe this was because it was a back to back itinery. The shows were really good very entertaing. The choice of food was excellent you was spoiled for choice where to eat and what to eat.The staff work very long hours and housekeeping was excellent the young lady and man Anna & vincy were brilliant the cabin was always nice and clean and tidy.we would certainly go back on the destiny. doreen & griff lewis

saw some bad reviews but tried to ignore them about this ship. we didnt originally book this cruise but thompson cancelled and this was an alternative. Found this to be a commom theme when talking with other passengers!! Cabin was ok and quite roomy. Food was varied, tasty but often cold even in the ONE restaurant! The alternative buffet restaurant on the top deck left you open to the elements. And of course in october the med wheather can be awful and was for our week. If you you dont like formal eating there isnt much of an alternative. Only book this boat if the wheather is extremely good.!!!!!
We've all came home with an awful bout of flu symptoms.

Cruise itself was very mediocre. Tiny cabins ,open deck Lido area, poor daytime entertainment. Main problem was that I was ill with gastroenteritis and became extremely ill on the final day and was declared not fit to fly for which I had to pay £137. We were then forcefully advised to go to the private medical centre which Thomson had links with and told all local hospitals would be very poor. As I have cancer my insurance did not cover private but the ship rep kept insisting and arranged a taxi. This centre was dreadful and I was charged almost 1000 euros for2IXray and blood test.
Idischarged myself after about 2 hours and went to an excellent state run hospital where I was a patient for 4 days. Thomson rep totally unhelpful

★★★★★

I must admit, I never fancied a cruise but went with my in-laws, (this was their 7th cruise),it was brilliant, you wake up in a morning, somewhere different, we went to Barcelona, Toulon, Sardinia, Naples, (pompei was amazing), and perlemo. We cruised on Thomson Destiny. You can have a cooked breakfast until 11.30, so if you want to have a lie in you can, then lunch is at twelve until 3.30, also there was a seperate bbq on the go if you just wanted a quick bite if you had been off the ship on a trip. If that isn't enough 3.30 until 6pm you can have snacks and cakes and a cup of coffee or tea, then it all starts again until 2am with your evening meal, with a choice of waiter service in the dining room,(they can't do enough for you), or you can go to the buffet in a different dining area. The staff were fantastic, the entertainment was top class, the cabin wasn't bad I thought, (inside) but I am only 5ft so it maybe was easier for me than my husband. If we would change anything we would upgrade to a larger cabin, but to put it in perspective the cabin was like a caravan, but as we only slept and showered in there it wasn't too bad in my opinion.
If anyone reading this has any reservations, DON'T!! You will love it.
You can sunbathe all day, or you can go to the gym, join in all of the activities that are going on, literally, whatever floats your boat!!
If you do book, have a good one,I will be doing it again next year.

The drinks package is excellent value, everyone is so friendly. The cabins are rather small. However, overall, a really enjoyable holiday and I would recommend the Thompson Destiny.

This was our first ever cruise and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Our daughter loved everything about it, especially the girls in the KidsZone Club. She was in the Tribe Club and this was very well run. From the moment you stepped on board the Destiny you were treated so well. The staff always have a friendly smile and "hello" for you. The Entertainments Team were amazing and the shows they put on during the cruise were fabulous. Well done to one and all. The food is 24/7 and of good quality. The service in each and every one of the bars is second to none. We had the drinks package and we were pleased we had done this. The girls who cleaned the cabins were so pleasant and we loved coming back to our cabin at night after the entertainment and seeing our beds turned down - this was a lovely gesture. We visited Nice, Monaco, Monte Carlo and Rome and loved every one of them. All in all a great holiday and a great experience for our first ever cruise. WE WILL BE BACK.

written by AnneEllis2 on 01/05/2008

It was our first cruise and I would do it again, only next time won't go ashore in Morocco. For the money we paid which was not a lot it was excellent value. From the very start we were treated very well, very friendly crew & staff.
The food was good and available 24 7. The pools are not that big but served there purpose. Plenty of sunbeds, excellent entertainment, small but comfy rooms we were on deck 3, outside cabin. I was expecting the drinks to be expensive on board but they were very cheap. Actually we did not have any reason to complain, so no bad points from us.

written by Helen Sharp on 19/04/2008

Avoid shopping trip in Morocco paid £36 for 2 of us and was told we would spend 1hr in carpet shop. Then we were taken to a market place which was filthy and got hassled so much we were glad to get back on the bus. The guide was very poor and said nothing on the way back he obviously knew every one were disgusted. Having complained all I got was a letter saying this would be passed on to the port tour agents sadly nobody else took the trouble to voice their complaint. This trip was 4.4.o8 to 11 .4 .08 Canaires.

Thompson Destiny was our first cruise and really had a nice time. Sky Bar was a really nice place to chill out and have a pre dinner cocktail. Staff and service 100% Food in Seven Seas very good. Food in Lido above average as well as the other bars. Drinks package great and you get named brands too but you only get Stella as a draft lager. Canned drinks £1 and cocktails around 2.85 if you are not on the drinks package.

Overall a good cruise for first time, although I thought it was a bit expensive when you consider you can book a much better ship for the same price or a little more. Never met any bad staff, getting off and on ship very well organised, ship very clean, clipper bar staff the best, also casino staff very friendly, another good point is that 95% of people are British.

★★★★★

written by P Luke on 23/06/2007

I read several reviews which stated the Christmas cruise was below standard, & I heard some regular cruisers complaining about the decorations not being elaborate enough,& the Christmas crackers were not up to standard. In my opinion those are very minor things to complain about.
We thoroughly enjoyed it & so did the people we became friends with. Thomson offered everyone £75 off another cruise & with that & a free drinks package as an incentive. We have booked a weeks stay in Majorca with the second week on the Jewels of the Med cruise for the start of July. Children are half price up to seventeen which is another plus.
We are all looking forward to it.

written by Wayne and Jac on 02/02/2007

We didn't do any organised trips, we prefer to do our own thing. Not a lot of guests enjoyed Morocco, I did just for the culture, Madeira was pretty nice, we went up in the cable car in Funchal and came down in the traditional wooden basket carts. The carts were a very good experience, these guys are masters at doing this, really skillful, just watch for cars coming up the hill. They only take you half way down, then you are supposed to get a taxi, more money, we decided to walk, they warned us it was steep and they are right. It seemed to take forever but when you get to the bottom you can treat yourself to a drink on a boat supposedly owned by the Beatles a few years ago. Customer service wasn't top priority, there was a only a total of eight people on board!

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed this holiday and as it is my 40th Birthday in February we have just booked to go on the Thompson Celebration on the Red Sea trip this year.

This was our (my wife and I) first cruise celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary and we were extremely pleased with the whole week. Although the cabins are small, everything was very clean. Entertainment was not as good as we had hoped but did not spoil the holiday.
