This Lcd Is Significantly More Impressive Visually
This LCD is significantly more impressive visually than my other to HD LCDs (Samsung & Philips, they are both previous generation & smaller though). On HD sources, it kicks butt the clarity of picture is breathtaking (& thats without good quality HDMI cabling - its on order...).
I have rated the sound on this TV, but to be honest never use internal amp & speakers - it does perform okay though for a TV if you decide to spend this much money and don't hook up to decent external amp & speakers...
My only real grumble (apart from cheap remote) is really generic to all non CRT displays, they really don't do 'normal' i.e. non-HD pictures justice at all. My previous TV (Loewe Aconda Select 32") still outshines the new one on normal TV & lets be honest, there are still way too few HD channels on Sky and the Betamax/VHS debate is definitely not settled yet.
3000??
I don't know where you bought your Sony KDL40X2000U LCD TV from, but they must be laughing all the way to the bank!
I have seen them for 1800 on the web!!

We Purchased This Tv A Week Ago Following Exhausti
We purchased this TV a week ago following exhaustive research into the Plasma/LCD debate and I am more than happy we made the right choice. We have yet to test the true greatness of the 1080 HD signal with SKY HD on order but if I was to base this on what I see in the hear and now then it is fantastic! There are 2 HDMI points as well as 3 scarts whereas a lot of the TV's are only offering 1 HDMI - all important for that SKY HD and the new Playstation 3 (if you can ever get hold of one)
It has Bravia engine EX advanced display technology giving a crystal picture and a high performance S-PVA LCD panel. The response time is 8ms and it has mega viewing angle of 178 degrees - this we have tested and cannot not see it from anywhere in the room - if that makes sense!
It also boasts PIP (picture in picture) to freeze/pause those important scenes of your favourite hunk or beauty - the only drawback with this being you can really see the flaws in their faces that a normal picture wouldn't show! :)
It has an integrated digital tuner for receiving Freeview amongst a whole host of other features that are too long to list!
My only teeny weeny point on the not so positive is the sound - though it is very very good for basic tele watching this TV really deserves a mega home cinema system to really show it off for what it's worth!
Would I recommend it - YES with no hesitation.
The only difference between this and it's sister model - the KDL46x2000U is literally the 6" extra in the screen which we didn't feel was worth nearly £1000 more - the 40" is plentiful!
