I Bought This Dvd Player Mainly For Playing Divx.
I bought this dvd player mainly for playing DivX. I've watched many DivX movies on it now and it's been able to read everything so far. The only complaint I have about it's DivX capabilities is that I did notice on 1 movie I watched that the picture froze for 1-2 sec, during this time, the sound continued. I replayed that same scene serveral times and it always froze at that same spot. I also played the movie on my computer and found that the picture did not freeze. This is probably because the computer is better at decoding the divX file. I noticed that it did freeze a few more times during that movie, but it was not too bad. And I haven't seen this happen on any other movies. So overall, I'm not too concerned with this.
One other thing that bugs me is how much noise the player makes when the disk tray is ejected. Also when you jump from one chapter to the next, the laser must move to a new spot on the disk. This action also produces a louder than average noise. These noises gives me the impression that the player is not of high quality. But for the cost, this is understandable. It is worth mentioning that during playback, the player is totally silent.
The included remote is small and has fewer buttons than I'm used to. Because of this, many of the features must be accessed through the onscreen menu. The signal strength of the remote is quite weak. I'm only 8 ft from the player when using the remote and a lot of times, I have to press the buttons repeatedly to get a response.
Overall, I am quite pleased with this player. The picture and sound quality is good, and I have been able to play many DivX movies. Yes, it's not perfect. The weak remote signal is probably the most annoying thing. But for the low cost, I can overlook a few imperfections.
