Bought Over A Year Ago From Argos = £60.

Bought over a year ago from Argos = £60.

Very fussy which media it likes (Blue) or does not (Yellow/Green).

Burned OK with Nero 5.5.5.1 CD-R's =

Ritek + Princo

I got a fairly good batch of Jungle Disc's - which were supposedly 'maufactured by Memorex' but which show up as Ritek's when scanned !?!?

As for DVD's =

Ritek (Silver Backs) and DataWrite (Red + Green Backs) + the odd Pioneer & JVC brand.

= Media type V-2.2

Seems a bit more tolerant than the PlayStation 2.

I would have given this player a 5 or a 6 at the time of purchase - but it has since been superceeded by cheaper and better models.

I recently tested it with 2 NTSC discs (one Region 0 and the other Region 3) and it played both - (without a hack) although the old TV it is connected to took about 15 mins to stop 'bouncing' !?!?!

Not a BAD machine - but the Alba 114 is better + cheaper.

I Bought This Alba Dvd113 Dvd Player Thinking I'd

I bought this Alba DVD113 DVD player thinking I'd got a bargain. In a way, I suppose I was right. It was good value for the money, and did basic DVD functions in an average manner. No complaints there really.

However, problems with the player were...

Noisy operation: A buzz can be heard from it while playing, can be very annoying.

Big and Bulky: I dont need to expand on that point, do I?? :-)

Doesn't play CD-R or CD-RW : This is annoying and kind of makes its mp3 playback cababilities and VCD playback capabilities useless.

OK, not too much else to complain about, but you can get much better players for the same price.

I Have Been Unable To Play Vcd's Or Mp3s On The Al

I have been unable to play VCD's or MP3s on the ALBA DVD113 DVD player. It sux them in, chews them around for a while, says loading and give you a real battle then to get the damn disc back.

The only media I have been able to play are region 2 DVD's from the rental shop.

It's also meant to be multi regional, but I am yet to prove this.

The Alba Dvd113 Dvd Player Is Fairly Cheap And Nic

The Alba DVD113 DVD player is fairly cheap and nice looking. I eventually found that if I re-burn the cdr's onto cdrw they work first time every time.

The Alba Dvd113 Is A Bargain Basement Dvd Player I

The Alba DVD113 is a bargain basement DVD player ideal for those who perhaps don't ordinarily spend a lot of time in front of the TV. It's shiny, plasticy, noisy, unreliable and easy to fall in love with just like an old Citroen 2CV. All in all, if you want to really appreciate a good movie wait until it comes out in book form, or spend a bit more money on a better machine.

On The Whole The Alba Dvd113 Is Not A Bad Dvd Play

On the whole the Alba DVD113 is not a bad DVD player, but the manual is a bit limited. It will take a lot of trial and error before we can find a list of disks brands it will except. I myself am still looking.

Ok the brand of discs you need are of the blue dye variety although not all of these will work it puts you in the right direction. Failing that get a few cdr-w and use those as they work in the machine fine. Gold and green dye surfaces - forget it as you will have 0% luck with these.

Hope you find this helpful

I Purchased The Alba Dvd113 Dvd Player Recently As

I purchased the Alba DVD113 DVD player recently as a second player for the house. Although it was cheap it does not seem to be as good as other players in this price range. The picture was not as clear as my other player (an LG) and I was disappointed that it does not play as many different formats as most

Right on the button - perfectly reasonable for the price, but if you're looking for anything more than utterly basic performance, spend a little more...

I Cannot Seem To Understand Why Vcds Don't Play On

I cannot seem to understand why VCDs don't play on the Alba DVD113 DVD player when they should.

Very dissapointing. But is there not a code that you can put in to access the vcds or to get them to play?

Scottie.

Above comment is correct, it is very media sensitive, will not play any of the gold or green dye cd's, you need the blue dye cd's to stand a chance but they will still not work if the dye is too dark.

Have also had problems with playinf dvd-r (or maybe just the way they have been written) but it recognises them as an extremely long one track mp3 cd :(

I can play VCD's on my Alba dvd 113 but have found that it is VERY media sensitive ! If you use 'Datasafe' branded cdr's they work fine. Also I have now started using Kodak cdrw's as they work fine too and you can erase them and use again. It also plays MP3's - although no mention is made in the book.
