“The past three years I have been visiting Cye Salou...”

★★★☆☆

written by on 16/07/2010

The past three years I have been visiting Cye Salou apts and like all apts or hotels it will have its faults.
The rooms are spacious, modern and newly equipt. The bathroom is lovely with bright red and white sparkly tiles and a new bowl sink. The bedrooms are a traditional Spanish theme and the curtains have a famous print on them, the bedrooms also contain wardrobes, bedsie lights, drawers and mirrors with a plug beside it. The balcony is a nice size and it comes with table and chairs though if you do sit out on the balcony a lot they do get a bit uncomfortable. The main room is spacious and the sofa does become a sofa bed with a bed which slides underneathe (TIP: I REALISED ON THE LAST DAY THAT- THE BED THAT SLIDES OUT FROM UNDER THE SOFA HAS STANDS THAT FOLD OUT TO MAKE THE BED HIGHER.).
The pool can be cold in the mornings and at night and I had never seen it got cleaned and in one corner it did have a lot of palm tree leaves. The pool is divided in two, a baby pool then the bigger pool and at one end it is about 1.9meters deep.
We did have some problems with the sunloungers. People were putting towels on them at early hours in the morning then leaving them there to about 2pm, which is completley stupid as they are being wasted. Reception did take them off but later on.
Sun loungers were also being moved about by large groups of people. It was also hard to get loungers that were together. As we were a family of 4 we did get single ones beside random people.
There were a few women who do go topless if this is a problem or intrest to you.
All in all these apartments are worth the monet and with a small walk to the beach, I would reccomend them.

The Cye Salou apartments are a lovely size, very clean, with a balcony. They are well situated, and all the staff are fantastic. This is our 14th year, and we are already booked for 2 holidays this year, and we are greeted with a kiss and a hug, as if we are part of the family.
We absolutely love it, and we will be going again next year, if all is well.

The Cye Salou apartments are in a very good location you are better getting a room overlooking the pool and away from the lift. Rooms were only cleaned once in two weeks and bedding was only changed once also when we ran out of toilet roll had to buy our own which I thought was strange. The rooms were basic but clean and quite roomy beach 5 mins away which is very busy nice promenade went to the grapevine which is just across the road for quite a few meals as the did very large portions and was made to order average meal 8 euro. The resort has a lot to offer for young children and trips to Barcelona are a must we went to Nou Camp, shopping and magic fountains for 27 euros, bus picked you up outside apartments at 2pm and gets you back for midnight. Porta Ventura is best visited at night as during the day you couldn't get on rides and buy your ticket on line before you go.

“The Cye Salou Apartments are excellent value...”

★★★★☆

written by Jonathonyorke on 30/08/2007

The Cye Salou Apartments are excellent value apartments, with good facilities, and the bus stop right outside taking you to Port Adventura, and also a pick-up point for trips to Barcelona (highly recommended, superb city, the Nou Camp is a must). You can book trips to Barcelona at the reception.

Port Aventura park is excellent, especially at night. The Caribe Aquatic Park is rather disappointing, as it was quite small for a water park, overcrowded and the water rides are very tame compared to other water parks. Not very good value for money.

I recommend Cye Salou if you're after an excellent standard apartment at a decent, affordable price. Suitable for families and couples etc., but not BILLY NO MATES or MOANERS. If you're going to spend most of your time staying in without really going out, and scrutinising the apartments interior decor, then AVOID and go for the next four options. 1. Find a five star hotel. 2. Maybe make some friends. 3. Try and get a life. 4. Go to IKEA for your holiday.

“We were pleasantly surprised with the Cye Salou...”

★★★★☆

written by Mrs Heather Smith on 05/11/2006

We were pleasantly surprised with the Cye Salou Apartments (although we had read reviews at Review Centre which were very helpful), which had been refurbished and were very clean. The seating and furniture looked almost new. Fairly spacious with a good sized bathroom, although it could have done with some storage space.

I think kettles and toasters should be supplied in a self catering apartment, especially when we had a microwave and a starter pack of cleaning equipment!

Rooms were cleaned on arrival, with clean towels and bedding, but these were only changed once during our weeks stay, and that was the day before we left. The apartments and public areas though, were clean.

Safety Deposit Boxes could be hired for 24 Euro's (6 Euro's returned when you hand the key back), and there was a returnable deposit of 60 Euro's or £50 against any breakages.

All staff spoke good English, and they were helpful and friendly. We complained once, as one night the reception was left unmanned and unlocked for at least half an hour (there were shutters that were not closed), and we couldn't get our room key. In the end we took our key from the box where we had handed it in, as it had not been put away. We were worried that anyone from outside (the door to the main road was open) could have taken any room keys while the reception was left unattended - as we had to as my daughter was unwell and we couldn't wait any longer! We did complain the next morning to the head receptionist and explained our concerns. She was shocked and apologetic, and said that she would speak to her staff to make sure the reception would not be left open and unattended again, and she thanked us for bringing the situation to her attention!

Entertainment was at the Lazy Wave Bar under the apartments, under separate management. This consisted mainly of: karaoke, bingo and quizzes. There was also Sky TV, pool tables and computers with the Internet.

Most bars in Salou had music and TV with sports. There were lots of bars and cafes to choose from. Our favourite (and popular with the locals) was Uncle Sams American Diner - great food, huge portions, good music and atmosphere. We went there twice in the week we were in Salou. We also liked Buddy's bar.

The huge promenade lined with palm trees is pretty for a stroll, and the beach is lovely.

There were loads of shops selling souvenirs, all much the same. We enjoyed a day in Cambrills and had a drink opposite the harbour.

A far better choice for shopping is found in Barcelona. We went on the train, which was a short taxi ride away from the apartments or a pleasant stroll. We got the 8:43am train for 11 Euro's return, and we came back on the 7:00pm train. The last one back to Salou is at 9:30pm. The best way to see Barcelona is by tour bus, which costs 18 Euro's for about 4 hours. You can get on and off with your ticket as many times as you like along the bus route, if there's anything of particular interest that you'd like to see. A walk along La Ramblas is a must.

Salou is a bit too commercial for me, but I'd recommend the Cye Salou Apartments to anyone looking for a central location and close to Port Aventura, which is brilliant and not to be missed!

“The Cye Salou apartments in Salou was generally good...”

★★★★☆

written by foxy7 on 07/09/2006

The Cye Salou apartments in Salou was generally good value for money. The whole building was spotlessly clean, and as it is centrally situated, it was easy to get a bus.

We travelled from Teeside Airport with Avia to Reus Airport with no delays. On arriving at Reus airport, it was only approximately a 15 minute drive to the apartments. The beach is just short of 5 minutes walk away, with bars, restaurants and supermarkets all around.

The apartments had a swimming pool, pool table and Internet.

Our family consists of 2 adults and 2 children. The main room has 2 single beds joined, plus a sofa bed and a 'drawer' bed. Pull out the drawer from the sofa bed and there was a bed there..very comfortable.

Also provided was a small bottle of washing up liquid, a scrubber and a hairdryer in the bathroom. Also provided were hangers in the wardrobes and a cupboard in the living area, along with an iron and iron board.

Towels and bed linen were changed every couple of days, and the curtains were changed once.

The air conditioning was a blessing, but make sure all windows and balcony doors are closed otherwise it won't work
!
Supermarkets are close by, as is the beach. There is a bus stop right outside the apartments, as well as a very helpful guy who was giving bus timetables out, and he was also very friendly and helpful if we were not sure of times and where to catch certain buses from (buses to Cambrils and Tarragona etc). There are several ways of getting to Port Aventura Theme Park - taxi (5 euros approx - one way only), bus (2 euros and 30 cents each, one way) or the Port Aventura train (when you see it you will know what I meant), and that cost approx 2 - 3 euros each, one way.
We included a 14 day ticket pass within our travel arrangements, which works out a lot cheaper. Stop right outside, and you can take a coach to Port Aventura Theme Park, which is a 10 to 15 minutes ride away. Once you're there, check out as many of the shows as possible, as they are really worth seeing, especially the firework extravaganza before the park closes each night.

There are excursions that can be booked at the welcome meeting, and the one not to miss is the House of Illusion. It is absolutely mesmerising, hypnotic and fantastic to see up close magic and illusions etc. Also check out a club called 007 just down the road from Cye Salou on a Thursday night to see Wayne Goodman, a hypnotist. I was hypnotised, and apparently I put on a very good show. 007 is a nightclub, but children are allowed in there up until 11.30 - 11.45pm. Also, Beachlife is a must as well - their prices are very reasonable, and there is also a restaurant there called Pirate - their prices aren't too bad either.
Prices for eating out varies, so it pays to look around, but for the most heavenly and delicious milkshakes, check XL Burger...mmmmmmmm!!!

While we were there, there was a thunderstorm and lightning. The streets were flooded within minutes, but once the storm stopped, it only took a few minutes for the water to go away.

We were disappointed with the entertainment at the Lazy Wave (attached to Cye Salou apartments), as it was mainly karaoke, but most bars had something going on.

The beach was very crowded and we didn't enjoy it much. In fact, we only went there once. The best beaches are at La Pineda and Tarragona, although the beach near House of Illusion wasn't too bad. Cambrils is a nice little town. It is very busy but cute. La Pineda also has the water park there. And like I said, the beach was quieter and much better. Tarragona is an absolute must, especially the Cathedral.

Would we go back there again? Definitely! But we would stay in different apartments. Or better still, go all inclusive.

“We thought the Cye Salou apartments in Salou was good...”

★★★★★

written by shiprapal on 03/06/2006

We thought the Cye Salou apartments in Salou was good value for money. It was spotlessly clean, as it had recently been refurbished, and it is centrally situated, but don't get confused with the Cye Salou Holiday Centre; that's a different part.

We flew with Ryanair from Stansted to Reus Airport, which is only a 10 to 15 minute drive to the apartment. The beach was a 5 minute walk away, and the bars and restaurants are all around.

The Cye Salou apartments had a swimming pool, pool table, Internet facilities with computer games (1 Euro gives you 12 minutes).

We are a family of 2 adults and 2 children, and we slept comfortably. There was a bedroom with 2 single beds joined together, and a sofa bed that sleeps 2 comfortably in the living room. I took my own washing up liquid and hairdryer, only to find they gave a little starter pack of a small bottle of washing up liquid and a scrubber. They also had a hairdryer in the bathroom. Towels and beds were changed after 2 days. It had air-conditioning, but make sure the windows and doors are closed or else it doesn't work! There are plenty of Supermarkets only 1 minute walk away. There is a bus stop right outside, and you can take a coach to Portaventura Theme Park, which is a 10 to 15 minutes ride away. The park entry costs €35 for adults and €22.50 for children. It might be cheaper to book your tickets online before you go, so check that out.

Don't miss the shows they have on there, especially the one in China Town and Polynesian Dance! We also took a panoramic tour of Barcelona which picked us up right outside the Cye Salou. Find out the pick-up times from reception. It is best to go before 11.00am though. They bring you back around 8.15pm. The tour costs around €25 for adults and €22 for children. We enjoyed the tour, as they look after you throughout the tour. It is about 1 and a 1/2 hours to Barcelona by coach.

The only thing we suffered from was insect bites. We don't know when and where we got bit, but me and my children had quite a few inflamed bites! We have a feeling they were bed bugs, but we are not sure as everything was so clean! So take antiseptic cream with you just in case! However, we will definitely go back again!

A very relaxing and enjoyable holiday was spent in Salou, based here in The Cye Apartments. It is centrally located, close to all amenities, Beach, Theme Park, Shops, Bars etc. Connected to The Lazy Wave pub where good evening entertainment can be found, namely karaoke quiz, bingo. Apartments were clean and well maintained, only downside was 10am checkout followed by bad flight times. Helpful reception staff (fluent english).

I am sorry but I went to this same apartment in Salou and I found it to be amazing. I would most certainly recomend these apartments. Salou is a great holiday resort but staying in the Cye makes it a lot easier as you are al ot closer to Portaventura than some people which is very handy.
