I took up my car insurance with Ashbourne from 2003 to 2005. They continued to take amounts from my account even after I told them that I did not wish to proceed with them as my insurers. I asked my bank to cancel the direct debit. When I raised this query with Ashbourne they were extremely unhelpful, and they did not sound anything like the people I spoke to when I first spoke to them. They insisted that they were legally obliged to take payments from my account via Finsure.
One year later I started receiving letters from a company called Regal Credit. The letter they sent did not give a breakdown of the amount that they claimed I owed Finsure. It simply had items as Zero and total as £190. I tried to contact them, but the number provided on their letter was invalid.
I therefore contacted Finsure directly, who advised me that Ashbourne instructed them to continue taking payments from my account, AFTER my query with Ashbourne.
I have just contacted Ashbourne, and the man I spoke to gave me a really really long explanation of why they had to keep taking payments from my accounts, none of which made any sense.
I have been insured with Barclays since, and when my insurance period stopped, they did not continue taking payments from my account.
Luckily I was not involved in an accident during my insurance period with them, but I can imagine what a nightmare it would have been if I had to make a claim!
