Penhalwyn horses are very well cared for,and they are all very kind. Visitors are always welcomed as they come to our yard, the lessons are amazing. The horses are obviously gonna be covered in mud all of the yards horses are, what do u except us to do, well people who ride or look after horses will know that when it has been raining and been winter it's going to be muddy, u go anywhere after it's been raining and the grass will be muddy, and of corse horses do roll. I ride up there Saturdays and stay there from 9:00 till about 4:30 and it's all very nice and relaxed, it's the same on Sunday and weekdays, the lessons are 10:00, 11:30 and 2:00 and u can have hacks out at the same times, u can request a 2 hour birthday hack. The views are amazing both on your way down to the outside sand school and out on hacks. Topaz my favourite pony, is always getting treats from me, and all of the other horses do because they are well behaved and well loved, by anyone who sees them or rides them.

Used to showjump at BSJA grade C, but hadn't been on a horse for many years due to getting smashed up in a bad accident not of my making some years ago so I was nervous, I needn't have worried, I was given a very suitable animal to ride. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and owners, lovely people and friendly well trained ponies and horses to ride. I was instantly at home in the saddle and the trek I went out on was superb, everything I knew and loved about horses came flooding back. My equestrian career was restared here a few weeks ago and I am now back in training so a big thank you to the staff and owners at Penhalwyn for getting me back on a horse! The only down side is the really scruffy nature of the equestrian centre which is off putting, it's loos are cleaned and work is obviously done but everything building wise was well past it's sell by date. There needs to be investment in the building side of things. I hate to mark the school down on their buildings after they have been so kind, it feels disloyal but image is important and a well kept smart yard will always attract business.

Im 15 years of age and I've been riding on and off at Penhalwyn since I was 7. I thank all the staff at Penhalwyn for teaching me how too ride, and I improved every lesson. Every time I've been to the yard I've had a good day, it's nice too spend time with the horses, and have a laugh with the people up there. I would recommend this yard too anyone who wants too learn how to ride, or learn too improve their riding. The horses get looked after nicely, they get groomed and pampered by everyone up there, they get fed after they're lessons then let out into a field full of nice grass. Everyone and every horse gets treated with respect at penhalwyn, not one horse gets left out or left without. when you start riding, you may get told too ride a more, carm, gentle and trustworthy horse that you know you can do anything and the horse won't be bothered, which helps you too build your confidence, and as your riding improves, you also get challenged with better horses, faster horses, and ones where you really have too make sure the horse is listening to the rider. But like I said, I would recommend this yard too anyone who wants too ride. Thank you penhalwyn & staff. :) Stacey,<3

Penhalwyn Trekking Centre & School, St Ives, is a great place to ride. You kind of get a trek and a lesson in 1 cause you have to walk down to the lesson area!!! The people who teach you are really nice as well. There are tones of friendly horses!!! I think there are too many horses in lessons and they seem to look a bit dirty!

We were on holiday in St Ives and went for a one-hour trek around the beautiful countryside. We (two adults, two children aged 9 and 6) were complete novices but were treated with respect and offered advice all the time. The instructors were kind and helpful and the girls who lead our children's ponies were lovely, and obviously loved the horses very much. The centre might not be the most stylish place, but the money you pay is obviously spent where it should be - on the welfare of the horses and the fantastic instructors. I cannot recommend the Trekking Centre enough - well done and thanks for a great experience.
