My Wife And I Spent Two Fantastic Weeks In Goa And
My wife and I spent two fantastic weeks in Goa and the Marriott provided the perfect base. The Hotel was fantastic the staff helpful all of the time and honestly the beds were the most comfortable we have slept in anywhere in the world.
The hotel put two cocktail evenings on whilst we were there one for Diwali which was held in the gardens and a general cocktail evening in the bar -both were very good and free!.
Locally we ate in a number of places but those really worth a mention are EDU's which is about 5 mins from the hotel (just on the main road) although it is more like a street coffee shop here edu and his team served some on the tastiest food we had. A meal for 2 plus a few drinks for less than a tenner. Next door to edu's is Mums Kitchen again great food in a air conditioned environment price about £20 for two including drinks.
In Panjim which is the capital of Goa and about a 25min walk from the hotel or 84 rupees by bus or 50 rupees by Tut tuk there are a number of of places to eat the Deli Barba is a must try and is inexpensive. The Quarterdeck -- here you sit on the riverside and watch the world go by whilst eating.
Taxis will take you anywhere for the day -expect to pay about 1000 rupees for the day.
Finally back to the hotel -- the pool area is great and there is a beech next to the hotel which is mainly used by the locals.
My last word goes to the Dive centre attached to the Hotel Txs for teaching me to dive and not letting me drown!! it was a great experience which i will continue will (Special Txs to Stu).
great holiday great hotel great people great weather-- we had a super time

The Goa Marriott Resort Hotel Is A 5 Star Hotel, A
The Goa Marriott Resort hotel is a 5 star hotel, and you can see why as soon as you arrive. The lobby is very open and airy, and it is cleaned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as is the rest of the hotel.
There is a nice coffee area that overlooks the Mandovi River, and out over the Arabian Sea, where you can relax and watch the sunset each night. There are also lots of places at the hotel, and at the river side to take photo's of the sunset, (don't take shots of all of them. Save some to sit and have a long drink while enjoying life).
The hotel is situated in central Goa, very close to Panjim. A taxi will cost £1 to £2, or a Rickshaw (petrol driven) is 50 pence! Worth using these for the fun factor.
You can travel north toward Candolim, and Calangute etc., where it can be quite busy. It's not for everyone, but it's worth a look. After all, if it's not for you, you don't have to go back up north.
South will take you to such places as Palolem. There is a wonderful beach with places to eat and drink. The south is a very calm and picturesque part of Goa, but if you stay in the South you will need to use taxis to get around.
India as a whole is quite a poor place. People are very friendly, but some are on the look out for what they see as 'wealthy' tourists, to either give them some change, or as a contact to get to the UK (which I had first hand experience of). This is not the majority of people by a long way, and most are happy with what they have, which is hardly surprising, as it's a wonderful place.
The road 'sense'; well there is none. There are lots of horns sounding, and everyone overtakes anyone they can, even if they are overtaking someone who is already overtaking! I would not recommend hiring a car or bike as it's dangerous.
Eating and drinking is amazingly cheap! We had a caf meal with a couple of beers, and it worked out at £1.50. Speaking to a backpacker, he told me that was not the cheapest. A top quality restaurant will cost around £20 for two, including drinks. Even the hotel mini bar was cheap compared to other countries.
Be careful what, where and how you eat, and make sure fruit and veg is washed with bottled water, food is well cooked and stored well, but beware of ice made of tap water. Drink bottled water, and make sure the seal is intact.
I had a bad case of food poisoning, which I think was my own fault from eating a pizza slice in the pool bar at the hotel!
You will see packs of stray dogs in the streets. We saw one with a very diseased head, and all I could do was give it some water as it stumbled around. I did go and look for a way to end it's suffering, but when I got back it had gone. This really upset us both a great deal, but I suppose it's life with warts and all.
It's a definite experience of a holiday, even if you only do it once, you won't regret it!
I can't wait to go back.
I would have given the hotel a higher overall rating, but it lost points really for the rooms close to the air conditioning, and having to use 2 days of the holiday to sort the problem out. Also beware if you have children with you, as health and safety is not as high as you may be used to, such as sudden drops without fences etc.
