“They take your money and run”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ouWilliams41 on 04/09/2020

I purchased a Lenovo from PC World online and it came within 2 days (very impressive so I thought) It started to work alright but kept crashing when using the NCH Videopad. The faults became so bad I took the computer back to the shop in Corby when I was told to reset the PC. I did as instructed and the faults returned. The shop refused to repair the machine unless I signed a form making me liable to pay for the repairs. They have also refused to accept the computer back. This company take NO responsibility for faulty goods and are breaking consumer law. I would not use them ever again even if they were the only shop in the world.

“FAKE SANDISK Ultra Fit USB 3.1 Memory Stick - 128 GB,...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Autumnl352 on 21/11/2018

I purchased one of these from PC World online February 2017. In September 2018, I decided to use it to create a system image. It was still new in the packaging, which I still have. In order to create a system image it was necessary to format the stick into NTFS. I did a full format and not a quick format. This operation destroyed the protective encryption security software that was pre-installed on the stick. It also destroyed the pre-installed trick software that gave the impression that the stick was 128 GB. Turns out it is a 32 GB flash drive and NOT a 128 GB. The case was subsequently referred to the Trading Standards. It seems impossible to review the item at PC World website to warn others. Question: Anybody know how to get a review on their website?

“Untrained Staff and harassment awaits you. ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ToddMunn on 20/11/2018

Please don't buy anything from PC world shop in Stratford. The staff are untrained and rude. They do not know a simple process of how to exchange an item that was ordered online. They just want to show their attitude and have regards for the service they should be providing. Its such a shame that the brand has just gone down the drain.

“They are not interested in looking after their customers.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Gia459 on 02/11/2018

I made the mistake of ignoring the bad reviews because of their no fix no fee offer. Took my laptop in for repair, they took the £60 fee and sent it to their repair centre. I got a call and was told it would cost £1,040 for a new main board on a laptop only worth about £900. Obviously I declined, when I went to pick it up and asked about getting my money back the answer was "I had declined the repair so therefore was not entitled to a refund". Well anything can be fixed if you throw enough money at it! Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere. As far as I'm concerned, this company has lost a customer for life.

“Ironically for a tech company, defeated by their website!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by taurustime on 09/06/2018

I tried to reserve, for same-day collection, a £29.99 item on the PC World website. There appeared to be no 'Stock Availability' option, only a 'Reserve' choice, a postcode button to select your nearest stores but with no confirmation whether the product was already available in store or had to be ordered and collected from store. Defeated, I called their Sales Department! A helpful young man told me that none of their THREE local stores carried stock of the item but that it could be ordered and sent to the local store of my choice for collection 'within 2-3 days'. I've now ordered the item for the same price delivered to my office in 2 days via Amazon. If PC World can't hold stocks of relatively inexpensive items for immediate customer collection, I imagine that they will go the way of many other High Street retail victims of not keeping pace with online opposition for their business. The irony in all of this is that you would imagine that, just like Maplin, PC World, a specialist 'techy' retailer, in particular, would see the need to take on their online competitors before it's too late. Recent closures of their Carphone Warehouse stores should be a wake up call!

“Terrible customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 17/04/2018

We purchased an Alienware 17 gaming laptop online from Currys PC World. When it arrived, it was faulty (freezing, not shutting down property, constant error messages, etc). We took it to the shop where the "tech expert" blamed the fault on us. We were not offered an exchange or refund and it was sent to Knowhow to be repaired. When it came back, the laptop was still faulty. We took it back to the shop and they said that we would have to call for an exchange or refund as it was an online purchase. We called and the sales team said that Knowhow would need to confirm that we could have an exchange or a refund. We were put through to Knowhow who couldn't understand why the laptop was sent back so soon after purchase (after a few days) and said that we should have been offered an exchange or refund when we first returned it. They said they did not have any more of that laptop and so they would refund us. They said that although we had purchased software, we would not receive a refund for that. We have therefore been left out of pocket because PC world sold us a faulty product. The service we received from PC World was the worst I have experienced.

“Absolutely Disgusting”

★☆☆☆☆

written by VOHughes on 17/09/2017

Wanted to cancel my Know-How Cloud membership, after it automatically renewed for the year. After being on-hold for 20 minutes (obviously a money-making endeavour!) I was told that as it had just renewed I would need to call back next year top cancel or forfeit the £30. I chose to forfeit the £30 but this is disgusting service as there is no reason that they cannot set a flag to not re-new. When I complained the guy on the other end of the phone couldn't have cared less, poor customer service and didn't even bother offering a half-hearted apology I've always bought my PC's etc from Curry's-PC World but never again

“humax freeview recorder fault after 32 days”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 471Salisbury on 09/05/2017

Purchased from Currys PC World Wrexham. Faulty within a month returned on day 32 and 6 days on waiting for it to be repaired. Staff could not care less and the CEO is not bothered. Do NOT use this company. Looking at the internet, which I should have done before buying, these Humax units go wrong all the time.

“Useless staff in a dreadful company.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Roy267 on 28/11/2016

Bought a lenovo laptop online. Opted for next day delivery. That was five days ago. Got an email to say my order could be collected today in store. Was passed between four different staff to eventually discover my order wouldn't be in store until tomorrow. That'll be day six. I recommend phoning the store to save wasted journeys. Also check with a few staff members as nobody has a clue beyond trying to sell stuff you don't want or need. My last encounter with PC world was three years ago when they sold me the wrong cable for £20. I later got the right cable at Maplin for £4.99. I last bought a laptop there about 7 years ago. It failed after a month and I had to deal with their convoluted repair system which meant i was without my computer for three weeks. Dealing with them again today reminded me why I vowed not to shop there again.Have to say I regret buying off them already. It wasn't even a huge saving from shopping elsewhere. The laptop I've bought is £150 less than their normal price but is actually only £30 less than other retailers that didn't have an offer-ie the real price is £120 less than the normal pcworld price. I wish I'd just paid the extra not to deal with them. The reason I went with them was the next day delivery as opposed to a 7 day period from an online laptop retailer. In the end it's been 6 days so far.

“Took Money for Cancelled Order”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MichaelaReid20 on 25/11/2016

Be very careful using these people. I made a mistake on an online order so rang the call centre and was told they would cancel the order. Once I had a cancellation email I re-raised the order. Both orders were then delivered and I sent one back with the delivery driver. They then took money for both orders and two weeks later and numerous phone calls to their call centre I'm still waiting for a refund. Very difficult to get issues resolved with this company

“Disgusting company”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ellbee999 on 20/11/2016

Purchased a new laptop on line from this company and arranged to collect the next day. Assumed it would take around 10 minutes. Certainly not. On arrival and stating the reason why I was greeted with "Please take a seat and we will discuss what extras you require. Wasn't aware I needed any estras. Tried to sell me some extended warranty at a monthly fee and when I refused was asked why. Was told I needed to purchase Mcafee security and the free security I have used for years is not sufficient. I was asked about Microsoft Office which I do use a lot and had the 2007 version. Was told this is not compatable with Windows 10 so I did agree to purchase a later version. Also tried to sell me Cloud storage which I did not require. Was also advised to open a business account as it would help me if I purchased anything in the future from them so I agreed to this. I finally managed to escape around an hour later. One of the first things I did after setting the new laptop up was install my old version of Microsoft Office. Guess what, it worked fine. Went back a few days later to claim a refund on the newer version. Expected this to be refunded on the credit card I had made the purchase on but oh no. As I had opened a business account they had to issue a credit note which would take several days. When this had been issued I would receive an email and if I wished to claim the refund I had to phone their accounts department to claim the refund. Was assured this would not take any longer than if it had been refunded to the credit card straight. Load of bull as it took over a week all told. At the same time I asked for some advice regarding a minor matter regarding Windows 10. Would not give me this advice as I had not purchased the extended warranty. Told if I wanted the advice I would have to pay for it. I think £30 was mentioned. Certainly won't be using this company again and I would recommend anyone else not to touch them with a barge pole.

“Bought a NEW in store item but got home and was used!!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by sapper4340 on 09/11/2016

I don't normally leave reviews but this company have taken the biscuit this time! and i like me biscuits! Im went into PCWORLD store in stevenage and bought a WD Mycloud 3 TB storage device for my family home which as the time the staff in store were very helpful and informative as most of the time when i have been in are. once i bought the device it has taken some time for me to turn it on and register but we did open it to check everything was there as we have been moving house so we was well over the 21 days money back guarantee. i only tried to register the device on monday and to my surprise it already had a admin registered to it! this meant that i could not setup the devise and register it to me as it was password protected by another person who had owned the unit before (name of admin was "shanawas" if you'd like to know pcworld). I phoned western digital (MANUFACTURE WD) on monday to try and fix this problem which had me on the phone at my expense for 50 minutes with no solution at the end. i then called the "knowhow" team 3 times to 3 separate operators the first cut me off accidentally the second proceeded to tell me that it was impossible to buy a used unit in store and I must be mistaken and hinted at i was lying! the third was not much more help and told me nothing could be done but to go into the store i bought it from and talk with them. today i have phoned WD the manufacturer again and have now managed to remove the admin that was registered before and i can now (at the moment as i haven't saved anything to it) use it and the devise is registered to me. ive had a few instances with pcworld being very un-approachable with electrical items iv bought in the past but to resell a used unit is unacceptable, i will NEVER be buying anything from them again!

“Not worth a star!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 13/10/2016

Purchased a mid range computer at the Cambridge PC World / Curry's store on a Monday, a couple of weeks back. Waited almost half an hour to be assisted. Should have known then that PC World was no good. Eventually I was helped and chose a computer that was unavailable in Cambridge PC World, but was available in other stores. Was promised that the computer I had ordered would be in store the following day. By Thursday I had heard nothing from PC World, so I contacted customer services to find out what was going on. They could not reach the Cambridge branch by phone, and they tried phoning them about 5 / 6 times, as they are in a habit of not answering the telephone. Eventually after numerous attempts to find out how my order was progressing, and realizing that this company was not going to do business with me, I cancelled the order. I have not had one single bit of feedback, or contact from PC world, up until I received my statement / payment plan today for a computer I have never received. I have told all my friends to avoid PC World / Curry's! What will customers do if they purchase an item through this hoax of a company and it has a fault? Will it be fixed? I doubt it! Can you truly afford to waste £100's of pounds on a company that you can't even communicate with over the phone, and that keeps giving lame excuses, like we'll phone you within 48 hours. I've only been waiting 408 hours for a call back!!!!!

“Tryied To Purchased a new TV for my 94 yr old mum”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 09/10/2016

I visited the Clough Road, Hull store on Friday 7 October, the store was pretty quiet and I noticed a number of store staff were engaged in an internal product re-fit. I was left standing for more than 15 minutes by staff who looked neither interested or concerned that I needed support. When I finally got the attention of a member of staff there was no interest in what I was wishing to purchase in order to meet my mothers expectations and when I decided a a suitable product a 32" Samsung 32K5600 (£279.99) was just planted in my arms and told to go to the check-out. When I got to the check-out, trying to close the sale was a disgraceful experience. One of the Check-out staff didn't look up but only carried on with his other admin duties, although after a while of waiting he noticed me and told me his colleague who carry out the necessary process. After a further 15 minutes of waiting the colleague responsible was still performing other duties and although he new I was at the check-out he failed to acknowledge me in any way. I left the store with the TV still on the check-out, more disappointing is that no member of staff tried to stop me to ask if I had a problem. The overall shopping experience was disgraceful and disrespectful. I then set off across town to St Andrews Quay and may my purchase by staff who wanted to help & serve me

“TV set-up: £45 - what's the point?”

★☆☆☆☆

written by J1o2h3n4 on 05/10/2016

I paid £45 extra for the TV to be set-up, i.e. connected to the internet and the other devices, blue-ray etc. TV, plus two guys, arrived as planned, then working at the speed of light, unpacked and connected the TV. I had bought 1 new cable as advised at the store, only now to be told that I should have bought 2, so that the blue-ray could also be connected. One of the 2 guys, the other did not speak English, advised that the old cables would not work! - so it wasn't set up. I returned to the store, bought another cable, and set it up myself. What a waste of money; nil chance of a refund!!

I am thinking of buying a Mac 11" Air from PC World. Says its new with the one year warranty and price includes tx and s&h. Reviews on buying from here are not favorable. Since I would be using the Apple Store after I purchase I'm not sure I see a negative reason not to. Am I overlooking anything? Thanks!
