If You Can Suspend Your Imagination For The Whole

If you can suspend your imagination for the whole of the film then you might find that you really enjoy it, but if you neeed some grounding in reality to stop you shifting in your seat then you're not going to be happy

Deja Vu Is By No Means A Denzel Washington Classic

Deja Vu is by no means a Denzel Washington classic and when I clicked on the Yes box for recommend to a friend it was only just.

The film starts well enough with a big budget opening and sets a fast pace. After this the film slows down as Doug Carlin (Denzel Washington) begins a murder investigation. He passes his findings on to Andrew Pryzwarra (Val Kilmer) who is leading a team to investigate the crime further. Pryzwarra is impressed with Carlin and quickly recruits him to join his team of investigators who introduce Carlin to some uber-complicated surveillance technology.

Carlin is intrigued by the technology and soon works out that this piece of technology is actually a time machine rather than a surveillance device. With this in mind Carlin demands to go back in time in order to try and prevent the crime before it takes place - despite the fact that he is told that he can only change the course of events very slightly, he goes ahead regardless to try and save the day.

It's an interesting premise but the films problem lies in the pacing, it takes far too long for Washington's character to realize what is going on before going onto travel back in time. If he had twigged much sooner in this film it might have made for a faster paced flick.

Not a bad film, but not a brilliant one either and I would say the ending is particulary weak as it doesn't fit very well with the rest of the film.
