I purchased a Road Angel Plus last July 2006 I had problems with it from the start. Whenever I left my vehicle and it switched itself off on my return, and it would not switch on again. On contacting Road Angel Customer Support, I was told to press the reset button in the rear of the unit using a paper clip, and it would reset itself. This I did, but I found myself doing this on a regular basis, so I rang Road Angel again and they were very helpful in that they exchanged the unit, but it wasn't long before this too started to do the same thing. Now 10 months later the reset button has disappeared and it doesn't work properly.

I have had my road angel for about 2 years now. Once fully charged it lasts for about 8 hours which is fine. It synchronises pretty well every time via the downloaded road angel interface software (takes about a minute). Its user interface is a little basic buts does the job. It reports all the fixed speed cameras and identifies where all the mobile cameras 'could be' which 50-60% of the time is a false alert. It hasn't got a sat nav - I use sat nav as well but dont subscribe to the speed cameras on this - the road angel is better and more accurate. It is too expensive - but my subscription for alert updates is up to 2099 (which won't be much use to a 144 year old driver then!)

I have not actually seen this unit working properly yet; the first one had all kinds of issues, culminating in it not turning on at all. The replacement loses charge and again, just doesn't seem to work properly. The root of the issue is easy to see: the build quality is unacceptably low, it feels flimsy and cheap, yet it costs a lot considering it has no SatNav. Next time I will forgo the laser detection (which is illegal in many countries anyway) and go with a dedicated SatNav with camera alerts, such as the excellent range whose name I will not mention (think bongos!).

Product quality is awful. First, the on/off button stopped working. I didn't exchange it as the unit still worked OK and it comes on anyway because of the motion sensor. Then when I could not update the unit due to lack of internet connection in my new flat this month (May 07), it went mad, beeping and displaying every warning in a cycle! I pressed the reset button and it sheared off inside the unit! As I cannot find the receipt, I have no come back so I have cancelled my subscription! Good idea, poor build quality. £249 down the drain!

I have the same situation regarding the on/off button... has ANYONE had success with getting help over this? Its a very expensive unit to simply write-off for what would appear to be a simpler manufacturing error?

My Road Angel Plus has been replaced twice, date of last replacement: 03/10/2006, not functioning! Road Angel Products have a good reputation, but they have problems with the Road Angel Plus and are totally mismanaging the situation. They have a customer database! Why are they not contacting all customers and explaining the situation? If they have problems with their new product release, are they going to be able to offer the required back up?

The Road Angel Plus' so called 8 hour battery life is a joke! I purchased mine in June 06 and since then I have exchanged the thing 4 times due to unit failures etc. The one I have now wont charge so I will now be looking for a full refund - I just couldn't bare to get it exchanged again, I HATE THE THING! Can anyone recommend a detector that works and I'm not interested in cost!

I found this review very helpful because...
