“The reviews that talk about rediculous hidden fees...”

☆☆☆☆☆

written by oreilly on 06/05/2009

The reviews that talk about rediculous hidden fees which only pop up AFTER reaching an "out the door price" agreement are 100% correct. I went to Garden City dealer after seeing a good price for a car I was interested in on the internet. Once there, I was told that I had to finance half of it in order to get the advertised price. Ok, I didn't want to finance, but figured I'd do it and just pay it off right away. We signed a contract which gave the "out the door price" with the exception of registration fees. Well, when I went to pay for and pick up the car, the finance person told me I couldn't pay cash for half (only a small portion instead), and started reading off fee after fee which ended up raising the agreed upon price by almost $3000. On top of that, you're forced to buy the warrantee or be penalized with a higher interest rate and additional fees which make it not worth while to not buy the warrantee. Unfortunately I made arrangements to sell my old car privately after I thought I was buying the new car at the agreed upon price, so as much as I waned to walk out when I was told about the extra fees, I was between a rock and a hard place. I'm considering legal action to get the difference in price between the agreed upon price and ultimate selling price with the made-up fees. Stay clear from this place.

“My wife and I returned to the Chrysler Jeep Dodge...”

☆☆☆☆☆

written by on 05/04/2009

My wife and I returned to the Chrysler Jeep Dodge service center after a week of owning the vehicle. The alignment was completely off. It was pulling very hard right. The shop manager said no problem he'd have someone take a look at it.

After standing with my 36 weeks pregnant wife in front of this guy for about 2 and a half hours he comes back to me. "You have 20 psi in your tires and thats why you feel it pulling to the side. I just drove the car myself and can tell you its now fine." after telling me this he goes off to the side grinning and laughing with his buddies. Okay, so I felt like an idiot. My wife looked at me like I'm an idiot. We get back in the car and drive off the lot. Absolutely nothing was changed. After those 2 hours that we spent in the office, absolutely nothing was changed.

I go back into the shop and complain. The manager reluctantly sends me to a goodyear down the block saying that Garden City will pay for it no problem because it was supposed to be fixed when the car was purchased. (Garden City sends it's vehicles to the Goodyear down the block because it doesn't have an alignment set up in its shop.)

Spent another 2 hours at the goodyear just to determine that my alignment was in fact off. Turns out it was the worst alignment he had ever seen. I was at this point being asked how I even managed to keep the vehicle on the road.
While at Garden City I was lied to, humiliated, my pregnant wife was made to stand for an unreasonable amount of time.

“I had an absolutely horrible experience at Garden City...”

written by Humpty Dumpty on 17/10/2006

I had an absolutely horrible experience at Garden City Chrysler Jeep Dodge, which is actually in Hempstead. Between the salesman I worked with (a Humpty Dumpty look-alike), the financial manager and the general manager, they each told a different story every time I went into the place. After being shown a car that was listed on the Internet for a competitive price, I test drive the car and am given a price that's actually $6,000 more than what's advertised!!! When I tell the sales guy, very specifically, what I want to pay and over what terms, he says he can do that. So I leave a deposit, go home to think it over and call the next morning. I'm told that the price we agreed to is still good and that he's going to run the financing application. So I go back, presumably to finish the paperwork and pick up the car. Wrong! When I get there, the financial manager gives me a whole set of payment plans that exceed what I had originally agreed on by thousands of dollars. I also had a signed quote which meant nothing. When I say the sales person told me something completely different, the sales manager tells me he doesn't know where the sales person got his numbers from. So I ask for my deposit back so I can leave. Surprise, surprise -- the safe is locked. I'm sure they could have unlocked quite easily to accept a deposit though. So I left without my deposit because I was so ready to get out of there. I told them I'd be back the next day for my money. The next day the sales guy calls me to keep trying to pressure me into buying this car. I tell him no thanks, and I'll be there in the afternoon and not to give me any more run-around stories as to why I can't get my money back. Surprise, surprise-he calls me back telling me no one can cut the check that day, I'll have to wait four more days. So I say let me speak to the general manager and he says he's not there. By this time, I found out about someone who had a similar problem with the same exact dealership, who was given excuse after excuse and was being jerked around for about a month, before someone had to go up to the dealership on his behalf and get his deposit back for him - on the same day this was happening to me. So I know someone was there to cut a check. When I arrive at the dealership, surprise, surprise, the manager is there. Needless to say, the situation was not pleasant. Cops were called, the sales guy found some courage when the cops came and began cursing at me and my companion (so much for customer service) and when I called the next morning for my check, they said they had it.

I would strong suggest not buying a car from Garden City Chrysler Jeep Dodge.

Dealer4's Response to Humpty Dumpty's Review

Written on: 29/10/2006

As the owner of the Garden City Jeep, I would like to apologize that you had a bad experience... When someone is unhappy with the decision they had made and wants their money back, my policy is to give the money back 100% of the time... Unfortunately, you were there when I wasn't, so a check could not be issued at the time, and I am sorry for that and for the salesperson that you had contact with that gave you the wrong information. He isn't employed with us anymore, although that won't give the trust you deserve back to you... Rest assured, that I do not promote the bad treatment of my customers in my dealership.

“I recently bought a vehicle at this "5 star"...”

☆☆☆☆☆

written by thelittleirishlad on 07/09/2006

I recently bought a vehicle at this "5 star" dealership. I searched the BBB and other rating sights to make sure they were a dealer that was reputable. I was extremely surprised, aggravated and disappointed in my experience with Garden City Chrysler Jeep Dodge.

Garden City had the vehicle I wanted advertised (on the Internet) at about $3,000-$4,000 below any of their competitors plus a full warranty.

When I arrived at the lot...all was fine...I was a little surprised when I saw the price on the vehicle's windshield was $3,000 higher than the Internet ad. I completed my test drive and confirmed the warranty information (90 Lemon Law, 3 year bumper to bumper factory, and 8 year/80,000 Power train+)

Once I brought out the Internet ad showing the vehicle $3000 lower...all I got was attitude and problems. First, they added almost $1000 in dealer fees...which were "non-negotiable". This aggravated me greatly...but the price (even with the fees) was still 2-3 thousand lower than other dealerships. Since the dealership insisted on their fees, I decided that I would NOT finance with them (heck, they made enough profit off of me!). I told them that I was getting a Capital One Auto Loan(which I applied for the previous day) and that I was just waiting for the check...this was fine. This was confirmed, again, with the dealership the next day...a Capital One Auto Loan was "a-o-k".

When the check arrived 3 days after signing the contract, I called the dealership to say I was coming with the check. At that point I was notified that the dealership does NOT accept Capital One Auto Loans. (Of course, they were willing to finance for me "at a competitive rate"!) (I checked with Capital One and Garden City has accepted their checks!! The dealership claims the check could "bounce"...even though there is a 1-800 number to call and confirm the validity of the check!)

I called the dealership manager several times (and left several messages)...but he was either "busy" or never returned my messages.

The dealership called the next day and said they WOULD accept my check but I would have to sign all the papers and drop off the check, then I would have to wait 5-10 days for the "check to clear" before I can have the vehicle. (Since the check is confirm-able through the 1-800 number..this is bull! Since I live two hours from the dealer via mass transit, this was a major inconvenience for me too)

Finally, after getting no results (from the dealership, the BBB and the Consumer Affairs Dept., Dodge Customer Service), I got a second car loan. I went to the dealership. I was the first person there to see the finance manager. Out of the kindness of their hearts, the finance manager took two people before seeing me...he made me wait almost 3 hours to sign my papers!!!!!!

The first thing the finance manager did was he charged me two additional fees! (even though the contract I signed said what the final cost was...he still charged me. "Inspection and temporary license fees") I paid the fees cause I wanted to leave! I was then told that my vehicle WAS NOT a pre-owned certified vehicle and had no warranty (I was also told that the NY Lemon Law warranty doesn't apply to me since I was from out of state...even I knew he was wrong on this!) I showed them their own website, which I had printed out...and he claimed that the pre-owned symbol etc. "was used for decoration" on the web site! (Of course, they were glad to sell me a warranty!) Thank god..I had my car fax which advertised it as a certified pre-owned vehicle. He even refused to give me anything in writing that I had warranties. He claimed I would get a packet in 45 days or so and that I had the car fax which showed it was under warranty! He said I didn't need anything cause the VIN number told all the dealers that I was under warranty (but at this point I was having major trust issues!!!)

I confirmed with the finance manager that I had everything I needed and he said yes. When I left and got home, I had a message that "I had "forgotten" the title"...I left over 1/2 dozen detailed messages to mail the title...I got no response for a week. Finally, I was told they would mail it...of course I still don't have.

Today, I was called by my bank...instead of having the bank as the lien holder on the title. The dealership put me on the title, so now when I get the title (if they ever send it) I have to get a NEW one!

Because of all the problems, I sent an e-mail to the Central Dodge customer service to confirm that the dealership registrar ed my vehicle properly (IE: with ALL the warranties)...something tells me....well..you know.

So because of the attitude, financing problems, poor customer service, excessive fees, extra fees, warranty issues and title problems...I would never recommend going to Garden City Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Hempstead NY.
