A Large, But Not Sprawling Campsite About 3km From

A large, but not sprawling campsite about 3km from the beaches. Beaches are very long and lovely, quite busy after 4pm when the locals hit the sand. A good base for visiting Vannes, Gulf de Morbihan, Carnac and Quiberon amongst many other locations.

We were given a pitch in the trees, which was nice, but the tree-resin had to be carefully removed from our canvas palace afterwards. In the rain this would not have been a good pitch! Other fellow campers found themselves squeezed two to one pitch sometimes, I have to confess, I pitched the tent 'defensively' so that we used the whole space (easy when your tent is 6m square!)

The staff are wonderful, especially the owner's wife, but the owner is a grumpy old frenchman who would regularly deny being able to sell bottles of pop, or having any cigarettes and even tried to short change me (I am able to survive speaking French - so it wasn't because of that!). I had to set his wife on him...that seems to work as a tactic!

Other, dutch and german tourists confirmed that he treated them in the same way! I did hear of other (non-french) tourists having their barrier code blocked, until they had been reprimanded for speeding (they denied this furiously!)

The owner's wife seems to take care of the little take-away, which does some decent food (but only "tarte aux legumes", and "frites" for veggies). She was supremely pleasant.

The swimming pool is lovely, although not heated as far as I could tell. It was a bit chilly for long sessions, but ideal on a hot day. Shower block is nice. Oddly no handbasins or soap in toilets which was annoying, taking your own soap and then visiting shower block was the only hygenic solution! Washing facilities not too bad, it costs about 10 euros though for a (large) load with soap. Probably equivalent to 2 loads back home.

I didn't go in for any evening entertainment, it was mostly karaoke type stuff, and besides we have a young son. He liked the childrens play area, but it was fairly basic for little 'uns. They do seem to cater well for all age groups on site, with a number of organised activities.

Not cheap at 440 Euros for 14 nights, sans electric, but a lovely atmosphere, well populated by French folk and hardly a spare pitch during the peak season. Possibly a bit noisy at night if you are used to UK campsites - it's normal for the people to be coming back to their tents around 11 or 12 here.

Visited: Vannes (20 mins), Quimper (45 min drive), Quiberon (20 mins), Boat tour on Gulf de Morbihan and Local beaches, to name a few.
