“VERY Disappointing!!!”

★★☆☆☆

written by Siena on 14/06/2013

I am SO angry with 2 of the girls at Nordstrom that sold me on Xen-Tan. They EACH told me that once applied, the 'tan' would last 5 to 7 days. I was thrilled to hear that. I can't tell you how surprised I was when in the shower I saw all the water washing off of me looked dirty. Once OUT of the shower I saw why---virtually NOTHING left to my so-called 'suntan'. This product is just too expensive to wash off. I'm taking it back.

I am a user of fake bake, have used it for over five years until a friend recommended Xen Tan. I have always used the darker shade of Fake Bake, despite being rather fair, it always looked natural, never streaked and always came pretty close to the colour my skin goes in the sun!

I tried Xen Tan as the only problem I had with Fake Bake was it's longevity, which Xen Tan claims to be its USP. Application was easy and smelt lovely, slightly less fragranced than Fake Bake. However, I have awoken to an Umpa Lumpa shade of orange!! It looks horrific and is nothing like the natural tan shade of Fake Bake. I'm hoping that the colour whilst even out after another shower, but will have to wait and see!

“I have black hair so although I'm white i do have a...”

written by on 13/11/2009

I have black hair so although I'm white i do have a natural tan. I don't fake tan for a sun kissed look, i like to look brown!

I normally use St Tropez or Fake Bake Extreme Tan. I applied this product last night using latex gloves, although it has a brown colour to it which means that you can see where you are applying it it's still very difficult to apply. Its quite a dry/sticky lotion so you have to rub it in very quickly otherwise it leaves big brown marks. I cannot get used to rubbing it in on my chest as it drys as soon as you put it on!

After applying you are meant to leave 3 hours before you shower (i left it overnight). Also it would be impossible to apply this before a night out or before going out anywhere as the brown colour to the fake tan makes you look very dirty. After i'd left the tan on overnight i showered in the morning and like it says on the bottle the "instant tan" (brown colour) washes off. I expected this colour to wash off and underneath the dirty colour to be left a lovely brown. Unfortunately this was not the case, when i stepped out of the shower i was as white as i was before I applied the product!

On the bottle it says that you should apply the product with your hands then wash your hands afterwards. I thought this might have been my problem as i used gloves. I have just applied my second coating of the tan using my hands. I applied the tan and then went to wash my hands - they were a reddy sort of colour and i've just had to scrub with exfoliator for 25 min before the reddy colour even faded and i know their going to be orange in the morning!

Overall a terrible product, and i'm really annoyed after spending £25.99 on the product. And that my hands are going to be orange on saturday night whilst i'm going to be white!

I have just purchased xen tan after reading all the brilliant comments all I can say is this is absolute rubbish I totally agree with you I left it overnight in the morning I had a shower and came out whiter than before I'd applied it I wouldn't even give it one star its that bad its difficult to apply it doesn't go on evenly you definately couldn't go out after you've put it on I prefer st tropez its the best I've tried unfortuanetly it doesn't last very long so the search goes on.

Not orange like they advertise, however I didn't notice much colour after one application, had to apply three layers before I had a noticeable tan, and even then it wasn't dark so I'm not sure why it's called dark lotion. Didn't last very long either, so not very good value for money.

“I bought Bronze Luxe Xen-Tan Dark Tanning Lotion.... ”

I bought Bronze Luxe Xen-Tan Dark Tanning Lotion....

I was expecting a super product, but no better than any other on the market. Colour is a regular fake tan colour, smell is a regualr fake tan smell that also lingers after showering. It seaps into drier areas like knees, elbows and knuckles despite promising that it won't.

Much better to go for a cheaper spray version. This is a disappointing product. You have to really be careful in applying it as i is likely to look uneven otherwise.

“Ok. ”

★★★☆☆

written by on 17/05/2009

Ok.
I am pale and I always need fake tan around this time.
I used to LOVE sublime bronze a few years ago and then they ruined it.
I tried xen tan dark lotion because of the "non-orange" claims it has.
Quite frankly there is one answer to this - absolute rubbish. I have to be honest. Having used it, I am just as orange as any other fake tan.
When it went on, the guide colour was really nice but when I washed it off, orange city.
It doesn't streak, lasts about half a week, dries quickly and smells nice, but alas, does not look real. *sigh*
My search continues...

“Xen-Tan Dark Tanning Lotion is not a bad product, but...”

written by Lyesie on 24/04/2009

Xen-Tan Dark Tanning Lotion is not a bad product, but not a patch on St. Tropez Mousse I'm afraid. I was looking forward to the 'olive' undertones, but I was a bit peeved that once it had developed it was more golden-orange! On a good note, application is a piece of cake. I did it after a glass of Pinot Grigio, and still no streaks :-)
I won't be making a second purchase of this product - I'm going to try Hi-Shi next, followed by Fake Bake.

Happy Tanning...

I am a beauty therapist and have been in the industry for 10 years, I have used St Tropez and I presently (and will continue) using Fake Bake Gold, I found xen tan fairly expensive and you have to be spot on in application, it came out patchy and a slight orange colour, however the overall colour was ok and it smelt like Ameretto or mazipan, yummy!

Disappointed with this product. Yes Xen-Tan Dark Tanning Lotion smells lovely, yes you can see where the lotion is going, yes you get a good colour BUT the residual tan is naff to say the least. So the product is excellent as long as you don't wash!

what you see washing off isn't the tanner, its the color indicator that lets you see where you have applied it. if you have trouble with it washing off i suggest to exfoliate ALWAYS before putting any self tanner on.

“I think that the colour is OK, but instead of being...”

★★★☆☆

written by Princess sammi on 11/05/2007

I think that the colour is OK, but instead of being olive, I would say it has a slight reddish tint to it, which has made it look a little orange. I have a medium skin tone with very dark hair, and I have used all the self tanners on the market, so I was very excited when I heard about this prestigious self tanner. I was so excited, as it said it was (olive toned), so I ordered 2 bottles at £29, which is the most expensive. I'm am a bit disappointed. It looks OK at night time, but in the day time it looked very orangey, and when I was applying it, I found it to be very thick and difficult to apply. The best fake tan I have ever used is "Sun Laboratories" Dark sunsation. It is green in colour when you apply it, but when you wash it off the next day the colour is PURE OLIVE. It's amazing! It just glows! Also, "Sun Labs" do 4 different shades, from light to very dark, which is the one that I use.

I wouldn't use Xen-Tan Dark Tanning Lotion again, unless I ran out of Sun Labs and was desperate.

Hi. Xen Tan and Sun Labs are the same products!! I have both, and the ingredients are identical; down to the cherry almond scent. I noticed from the beginning, when I compared my Sun Labs spray to the Xen Tan mist spray...EXACT ingredients. If you like Sun Labs dark Sunsation, then you will like Xen Tan.
