I booked a holiday march 9th this year to travel at the end of May. Sadly for us my partner was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma cancer at the end of May and due to the nature of the tumors sitting inside his chest almost blocking one of his main veins to his heart, was rushed in for chemotherapy straight away to save his life. Obviously the holiday had to be cancelled. First assist (through Halifax ultimate reward account) have thrown out our case as my partner first went to the doctor on February 18th 2015 complaining of a cough and was sent away with a course of antibiotics which we thought nothing of and went about our lives, namely looking forward to going away and booking a holiday as a stressed primary school teacher would be. As the cough hadn't cleared up he went back to the doctor on March 25th who, as his lymph nodes were raised and the cough hadn't cleared up, referred him to the hospital (which was an appointment at the start of May) and when we went to that appointment in May they suspected he may have cancer with a full diagnosis coming at the end of May! I would like someone to explain to me how we would have known this was the path our lives were going? How can first assist tell me that the case is thrown out as my partner went to the doctors with a cough in February and was sent away with antibiotics. The referal was at the end of March, the appointment the beginning of May and the diagnosis the end of May! ANTIBIOTICS DO NOT CURE CANCER, we did not book the holiday in ill faith, the travel insurance company are just looking so screw over innocent people. The way we have been treated over this is disgraceful! No manager working there would even speak to me and they couldn't give me a fluid reason as to why they wouldn't pay out. All of this stress on top of caring for a partner currently going through chemotherapy, they should be ashamed! Criminals! AVOID THIS COMPANY, I WILL BE CONTACTING THE FINANCIAL OMBUDSMAN ABOUT THEIR ILL PRACTICES!

We have travel insurance with this bunch of money grabbers. My dad died two day before we were due to go away, got taken into hospital with a sore back, ended up with Norovirus and pneumonia, sadly he passed. Its been three months now but they will not pay up, they keep asking for the same things, over again, I feel like giving up but why should I, you have insurance for a reason. I am writing yet another letter today, with a note off the Coroner claiming he died of natural causes but you can bet in about three weeks we will get another letter asking for something else, there is physically nothing more we can provide. When the next one comes back we will go the Ombudsman Sam

Had booked the Rocky Mountaineer and Alaskan cruise holiday. Sadly a routine scan on my wife found a lump on her kidney 2 weeks before we were due to travel. To expedite matters we were advised by the consultant to cancel the holiday, he gave us a letter to support this. 4 months on we are still waiting for a decision. To put things into perspective the much maligned NHS have removed the lump performed the required biopsy (thankfully benign) and my wife has made a full recovery and still no decision from the underwriters. Very, very poor. Will never re-insure with Halifax again and outdoor certainly never recommend.

Don't us Halifax home insurance - Firstly back in June 2014 I had an infestation of tiny moths that have eaten there way through my carpets and it took weeks to get rid of them. Contacted Halifax and said we were not covered as moths are classed as vermin!!! But if a great big family of rats had caused damage we would have been covered. Last week I was burgled taking several large items from my integral garage and yes once again I am not covered! What's the bloody point in paying for insurance when you never bloody claim. If you have Halifax home insurance -cancel it NOW!!!

I have just been abroad my inbound flight was cancelled I had to pay for my own accomodation for 4 days drink and food etc try to make a claim they say I'm only eligible for travel delay a discraceful 250 pounds max. This doesn't even come close to what I've paid out. I've lost earnings at work etc and nobody want too know this is the worse insurance ever. Halifax you want to be ashamed putting these monkeys (first assist) in charge of your insurance. Shame on you..

claim lodged in September 2013 as I had to cancel my holiday on the last day due to my husband becoming seriously ill. He wasn't travelling with me but they say I failed to notify them of his pre-existing medical condition. Why would I - What would be the point if he wasn't going !!!! My last contact with them was in January this year when I phoned them. They said they would have to check this out with their underwriters. It is now June 2014 and had no contact from them since. Complete waste of money - I will be taking out independent insurance in the future.

This travel insurance is not fit for purpose. We have been fighting to get what is owed to us for months with no end in sight. Do not trust this company. We had travel documents stolen and they are refusing the claim using a ridiculous clause that makes no legal sense. I will be moving my account.

Persuaded to take ultimate reward with travel insurance, 3-4 years ago. Last summer we took a family holiday in Paris but got robbed during day, losing passports. 1. The insurance policy couldn't cover the loss of passports because 'they should be kept in a hotel safe'. 2. The original documents submitted to first assist were not returned to us. 3. I had to call them to find out that the case was closed. (they sent a text message which I didn't notice) Check very carefully what can and can't be covered. I was surprised that an event recorded as 'robbery' by French Police and British Embassy can't be covered. You have to carry your passport with you sometimes.

Moved my account on advice of my branch, pay monthly fee for travel insurance/mobile phone insurance and breakdown. What a waste of money. First claim and they are trying every excuse not to pay. The person who contacted me was SO rude and made me feel like a liar. So will be cancelling/closing account and going elsewhere - so annoyed because of my losses and the hassle it is going to be to change my accounts. Wish I had read these reviews before I decided to go with Ultimate Reward Account - do not make the same mistake.

DO NOT USE THIS INSURANCE!!! We booked a holiday a year in advance and paid £349 deposit and then we discovered my wife was pregnant a couple of months later. Phoned up to make a claim, staff rude and no people skills. She then advised we were not covered because she was due to give birth within 12 weeks of the travel date and they only cover if you are due to give birth either 12 weeks before travel date or 12 weeks after! Hang On... So if you are due to give birth while you would have been away, they wouldnt pay out,but if you were 6 months pregnant when you would be away, they will pay out. THAT MAKES NO SENSE!!!! I have logged a complaint and will take it to the FOS although i don't think it will get very far. But as I work in insurance, i know it costs them £500 every time someone goes to the FOS so it will cost them more than it would have to just pay out.

had my bag stolen 3rd day of holiday with purse, sunglasses, mobile, camera in, ALL this is on CCTV it was inside a shopping centre, reported to police they took an in depth statement, because i didnt report to halifax within 48 hrs they will not look at claim, but it does not say that you have to report to them in 48 hrs. Staff are rude and patronising, i am in theprocess of reporting to insurance ombudsman, do not use this company they are crooks and cheats,i am surprised halifax trade with them what a load of rubbish! wish id have thought to read reviews before i took out the reward scheme.

Terrible customer service and rude staff. Very patronising on the phone. I was trying to claim for delay to my journey during December- this was after the snow and cancelled flights at Heathrow.
Their policy wording is terrible and misleading. I have been writing to their customer service department. They have now changed their mind and are allowing me to at least claim- they basically give contradictory advice and have been a nightmare!
I would not recommend them to anyone. I am looking elsewhere for travel insurance.

Family member was unable to get to Gatwick due to weather delays in December. Halifax insurance clearly stated in their brochure that failure of public transport was covered. Many attempts were made to get to the airport after BA cancelled the connection which was originally for the day before departure. Rebooking was cancelled, leaving no time to get there other than the sleeper, which by then was fully booked. There was an exclusion clause that basically stated that they would refund your efforts to take up the holiday. With the country at a virtual standstill, I don't know how they expected anyone to be stupid enough to do that. Staff rude at the call centre and well practised at telling customers that they were not covered by the "insurance". Avoid! I had to give them a star to lodge this - they do not deserve that!
