“Never again !!”

★★☆☆☆

written by 80Garrison on 04/08/2017

Unfortunately we got a last minute deal x4 days 31st July -4th August Going with my Daughter and 4 Grandchildren x3 school age and a 3 year old . Thought what was going to be a lovely family break ! Children so excited and looking forward to all that Pontins had to offer . Arrived Monday lunch time to find no food Venue open so took a walk outside Pontins to a family restaurant which was good . Arrived back children played in softplay which was good . Then queued in a large queue at 4.00pm to check in ! Oh my it was an experience . To drive to accommodation which was at the far back of the holiday site . Not a problem thought it was fine from the road to which we parked ! Shock and horror when we open up the chalet to find a filfthy outdated and run down accommodation !!! My daughter used a bottle of beach and domestics spray on cleaning while I amused 4 very excited children ! We cleaned and unpacked our possessions which we had taken for our lovely 4 day break . Trying to keep positive and happy for the children we took them straight out for food and to see what entrainment was on offer as no programme was provided . Which when I asked at the reception I was told to take a picture on my phone as they were not given out !!!! We went to the Lunar area which was nice for the children with Blue coat entertainer ! After that it went down hill , the main hall was overfilled with no where to sit or even stand ! Went around amusements and took children for a walk again outside the site ! The accommodation was so small and not pleasant to sit in as the sofa was a bed for which x2 were sleeping ! The kitchen area had a very small space which had only x4 chairs so no where to sit as for Six people as requested . We had a very uncomfortable first evening so after talking we decided to leave as was not fit for purpose and took 4 very disappointed children home . Would definitely not return again sadly would not recommend to family and friends .

“pontin's brean sands”

The staff were friendly, but could not answer any of our questions..The apartment was tired looking, curtains did not fit and was falling down.. I got a electric shock from a broken bedside lamp..The park itself was very run down, half the things were broken or out of use.The swimming pool lockers were broke, the floors were dirty..With a lovely long beach so close, Pontin's Brean could be a great place to go with young children if money was spent up dating and cleaning up the park..WE WILL NOT BE RETURNING.

“Sun £9.50”

★★☆☆☆

written by chairboys on 15/09/2014

Have just returned from a Monday to Friday Sun Holiday Break at Brean Sands. Site is rather tired to say the least. Our Chalet accommodation was in need of updating... We had to clean bathroom and sink etc in Kitchen area before we used it... no evidence of a clean... floor throughout was filthy and we had to sweep it... we all wore shoes whilst in there too. Duvets and pillows not checked although we had a huge selection to choose from and thankfully we brought our own sheets and pillow cases. We had decided prior to arriving that we would use accommodation as a base because of the offer we had money to go out and eat... thankfully we found several good eating places nearby and somewhere to go that had great evening entertainment for our party of four adults. The cooker was filthy and we did not bother to use it because of this. As we were on a Sun Offer Holiday we lowered our expectations and we were very lucky with the weather so we got out and about. I picked up a brochure for the site and could not believe the prices charged and I know if I was paying direct I would not have been happy with the value for money. My Dad had a full hip replacement in May and both he and Mum found the double bed rather uncomfortable... mattresses were tired and in need of renewal. I am grateful however that we got the chance of a short break through the Sun Newspaper... I do feel that it is a shame that certain parts of the site have been allowed to run down especially as the rates in the brochure are so pricey. Felt the site was lacking in staff... I am sure they did their best but it was obvious that they were being overstretched... Played Bingo a couple of times... Bar staff were friendly but could have been cleaner in there... great to see the little Children enjoying themselves... The last night we stayed on site and visited the Pub... Could have been cleaner, not enough Staff... a very poorly run Quiz... worst of all plastic pint pots?!! and yet in the main entertainment room proper glasses were served... On Thursday I watched some workers cutting the grass which was in need of cutting... very lack lustre and the guys litter picking seemed to have lost interest too... Brean Sands could be great if some money was spent on it... I think value holidays should be pushed more then the overworked staff may not have so many complaints to deal with...

“Terrible holiday park”

★★☆☆☆

written by de84 on 26/04/2014

Firstly the park could do with great repairs and updating, the outdoor activities like the go carting look like they have been left to go rack and ruin. Then there's the accommodation, we stayed in chalet 972, the chalet was dirty and the bathroom was covered in grime and hair from previous guests, it needed a good clean. We had a party of 4 but only two cups, 1 bowl and three pillows... There was one room and a bed settee that had seen better days and was very uncomfortable due to the state of the bed. we also had to share our chalet with Ants which kept coming in from under the front door. The only thing this park has going for it is the family entertainment off site around it, like the arcades and fun park. we didn't eat on the site at all, but used the surrounding venues.

“Pretty grim!”

★★☆☆☆

written by stainesbloke on 26/09/2013

Ok, it's cheap (off-season) so you get what you pay for. However! I felt like I was in an episode of Jeremy Kyle, the hideous, fat, chain-smoking chavs and their million kids totally ruin this place. Couldn't believe the evening 'entertainment' which consisted of hordes of totally unsupervised toddlers running around the dance floor until really late at night...why weren't they in bed?! Why are toddlers allowed in the main area after 8pm?! The site itself is dirty and looks shabby looking but our chalet itself wasn't too bad. Apart from the really cheap mattresses and having to purchase electricity cards, cheeky. Our chalet had new-ish PVC windows but some were already broken and didn't lock properly. Food options on site are limited and not great quality, better to head out and there are some better places to eat outside. The nearby amusement arcades and fairgrounds are fun, if expensive, and the beach is good. So I might use a chalet just as a base in future holidays.

“Disappointing, could be better.”

Just got back after a weeks holiday, with my daughter and grandson who is 11yrs old. The chalet, was ok, but we had to pay £40 for bed linen, 1dble, and 2 singles, which we could of brought with us if it was made clearer what extras were, when we made the booking,( all the dye came out of this bedding so beware if you buy any)total rubbish. Not a lot going on during the day, so spent a fortune going out visiting places like Wookey hole and other places of interest. What we couldn't understand was why every evening, never mind what time we went out we couldn't get a seat in the fun factory,( this is where all the entertainment is held in the evening) we found out why the night before we left and it is because Pontin's invite everyone to play Bingo, ( there are a lot of caravan parks there) they come and stay the night and watch the entertainment as well, so everyone who has booked into Pontin's find it very hard to get seats. It was a nightmare. They could of had Bingo in a different building. In the end with what I spent and my daughter it would of been cheaper for us to of gone abroad, all inclusive.

“Pontins Review - Whitsun 2013”

★★☆☆☆

written by coasterjamie on 31/05/2013

Pontins at Brean Sands was terrible when we visited at Whitsun this year (2013). First off, accommodation is awful. They claim to have refurbished it, but a new floor, chairs and possibly sofa is all we saw that was new. It is tacky, not good and smelt like a public toilet on arrival. Bear in mind that cleaners are supposed to go in and clean it. The most disappointing thing was that they are no longer doing any of the high ropes activities. There had been no warning prior to our visit about this, but on arrival to the activity booking thing we were told (once we had asked about booking high ropes activities) that they don't run anymore and that they hope to have the equipment down by the summer. Archery was about the only thing still there, so we enquired about booking for this and were told that the instructors were at a wedding for the weekend so we couldn't even do that. The Go Karts were also operational when they felt like it, but they were awful and the course looked really run down. The on site swimming pool is poor, closed more than it is open and there isn't much to do in it. They have a flume, but it is tiny and not worth bothering with (although it's usually closed anyway). The only good thing about the place is that they have a good shop onsite (Nisa Local). The final moan is the state of the place as a whole though. It was so run down it could be mistaken for having shut years ago if there were no people there. The grass is all overgrown, the crazy golf course has overgrown grass covering parts of it and is falling apart and the signs around the place are faded and, in some cases, not legible. Overall I would not recommend Pontins Brean Sands to anyone unless they are visiting something in the area and it is the only accomadation avaliable. It certainly doesn't have enough there to entertain you for a day, or even an hour (which holiday parks like that should do). One advantage of staying there however is that it is next door to Brean Leisure Park, which has a great amusement park, swimming pool, golf course, crazy golf and more. Thanks for reading.

“We stayed here at Brean Sands for 1 week beginning of...”

★★★☆☆

written by on 12/08/2008

We stayed here at Brean Sands for 1 week beginning of Aug, I must admit I was considering cancelling the holiday after reading all the reviews.
We arrived around 3.30pm for our check in at 4pm, we did have to queue but only for about 5 mins - also queued at Butlins so much about the same.
We stayed in a classic 1 bedroom apartment which was on the end of a row (408), we were quite lucky with the state of the apartment, it was clean apart from the carpet which was full of stains. One thing we did notice was there was no hooks or clothes airer to dry towels which was a pain. We also didn't have a tin opener but it was replaced as soon as we complained.
We did have a good look round the camp and I'm glad we didn't go for the club apartments as they look the same as the classic but with a microwave and laminate floor. I must admit I think it could do with upgrading. The tables in the fun factory all wobbled and with no air-conditioning it was very hot.
My kids loved the swimming pool and the slide but the toilets weren't very clean so did smell.
The croc adventure was a big hit, my youngster loved the playstations and my toddler loved the jungle play area - we didn't experience any teenagers hanging about.
We thought thhe evening entertainment was a bit disappointing - a lot better at Butlins in my view but the kids did enjoy it even if us adults found it boring.
We only ate once in the Queen Vic on Thurs curry night beware if you have kids get there early as we waited 45mins - by which time our kids were bored, tired and not hungry. They even stopped taking orders as they couldn't keep up - we joked that they should get Gorden Ramsey in.
We did go out quite a lot we loved Wookey Hole, Court farm and adventure farm good places to go if you have kids also Western beach
