“Word of Caution!”

★★☆☆☆

written by acuprac on 10/11/2016

Don't be seduced by seemingly good reviews! The good - adjustable bed mechanism seems sound and well made, whisper quiet. The bad - the Ultima 50 Memory Foam mattress does not suit everyone. My wife had a sore hip/back every morning for the 2 months we used the bed. The mattress replacement layer at extortionate cost was no better. Rather unfriendly and slow customer service does not help. Abberley offered a refund for the mattresses, but the offer was so ridiculous it was not worth accepting considering delivery costs. Tried selling the bed on Gumtree but Abberley refused to honour the warranty, even just for the mechanism, so no one interested, even at half the price we paid! We have gone back to the old bed, which we luckily kept in our son's room. So we are stuck with a useless bed.

Care's Response to acuprac's Review

I would like to advise that all of our reviews are from genuine customers. We do not claim that the Ultima 50 mattress is suitable for everybody. We offered three upgrade mattress options. Unfortunately the one you chose was not suitable for your wife. As regards to the warranty, as explained in our email we cannot be held responsible for any damage if the product is sold on during dis-assembly, transportation and re-assembly. The bed you purchased was a non-standard bespoke product and therefore not subject to return or refund. Having reviewed all correspondence I feel that I have answered all queries politely and tried to assist in any way I could. I am sorry to hear that you feel this way.
Regards

I have a condition in my hips, which causes significant amounts of bone pain everyday. I also have a bad back and shoulders, which is muscular. I am debating between going with Abberley or going with Tempur. Does anyone have experience of beds from both companies? Thanks.

I would definitely go with Abberley for a number of reasons. 1. You can get a memory foam matress from them just like tempur. 2. The adjustable nature of the Abberley bed enables you to find just the right position for your condition. Before I bought an Abberley bed I had a similar condition to yours. I could not sleep for more than 40 - 50 minutes at a time before I either had to turn over or get up. Now I sleep throughout the night with only the normal calls of nature to cause me to get up. My wife and I both love our Abberley beds but we both agree that the massage (vibrate) function is a waste of time. A gimmick at first but now we never use it. 3. The people at the Abberley shop are very helpful and do not put you under pressure in any way. I drove down from Durham to Essex to look at the beds and the setup there and was most impressed. Hope this helps GFB

We live in Hulbridge Essex (Nr Rayleigh). We currently have a twin adjustable bed (2 singles joined). My wife says we've had them 12 years. A couple of the slat supports on her side have collapsed and I've had to repair them. It's time for replacements. Does this company charge for delivery? Will they dispose of the old carcass for us? Where is the nearest showroom? Do they do the Memory foam/spring mattresses? Just seen, Purdey Ind Est Rochford. What are the opening times?

Thanks for answering this question.

I am not sure of the answers to you questions except that the matresses are entirely of foam, either memory on latex or pure latex. Their address can easily be found on the abberly beds website. I should get in touch with them if I were you. They are totally non persuasive and a pleasure to deal with. They are definitely not pressure salespeople and will give you plenty of time and space to make up your own mind. I bought a couple of beds about 2 years ago and have been thrilled with them. I did drive down to Essex from Durham to see their setup with which I was very impressed. I was extremely satisfied with the deal I received. They even gave me a couple of sets of sheets etc because I did not require a headboard. You can't go wrong by contacting them at least.
