“Never signed up and hard work to cancel ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 490Monaghan on 26/02/2020

I wasn’t aware that I had signed up to anything I simply ordered a case of wine and started receiving others. It’s virtually impossible to cancel and they never answer emails It’s not even good wine I’m AMAZED that the Sunday Times allows its name to be associated with this.

I found exactly the same. You log into your account and it’s like they’ve deliberately made it impossible to cancel your subscription (which I never even applied for!)

“Wine's ok but impossible to cancel”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ma01msb on 25/09/2016

I got a telephone call from the sunday wines club and decided to get a crate of wine. The wine itself was fine, i had no problem with it. What I objected to was that 12 weeks later, i find 100 pounds had been removed from my bank. It just said "Sunday Time, Reading GB". I had to go through the bank to trace the source of this bill. I then went onto the sunday times wine website, and it was REALLY difficult to find the order that they'd put through automatically. I looked for the cancel subscription button, but there was none. It literally does not exist. You have to email them or ring them. I emailed them twice, asking them the cancel it, and pointed out that i didn't think it was cricket that they didn't make it clear when i sold wine over the phone that it was a recurring arrangement. Because it's not a direct debit and they have my bank details, i cannot cancel it the bank end. There's a special division of the bank that exclusively deals with difficult to cancel orders like this, I have to ring them up on Monday. In the meantime I telephones to see i can cancel over the phone, but their "systems are down" and I should ring them back at the inconvenient time of monday while i am at work, so I am still no closer to cancelling this order and getting a refund. If i'd have known that it was a recurring arrangement, I would never have agreed to it.

I had a very similar experience. I never signed up to anything and keep getting cases of very ordinary wine. They never answer emails so difficult to cancel. Very poor and I’m amazed that the Sunday times allows its name to be put to this

“Overpriced wine terrible service so far. Cancelling, how?”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Marty101 on 03/08/2016

Saw the offer, should have known better, "to good to be true" and it was. Wine cheap plonk bottled as premium quality wine. Definitely not worth anything like the quoted prices, at the offer price as a new customer makes reasonable cooking wine, just don't try drinking it with a meal it will ruin your evening. They say you can cancel at anytime, but there is nowhere on the website to do so (that I can find. Have written to them online explaining wish to cancel etc. and as I now have come to expect no reply. I am now writing to the Sunday Times pointing out the terrible value, the problems and that perhaps they should review endorsing this wine club in their name. It appears to be run by a discount importer.

“Cheap for a reason”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Amanda84 on 10/08/2015

These wines you can tell are cheap they leave awful taste in your mouth, i have a wine cellar with lots of red wines and thought this would be a good way to replenish them for a lower cost. You can tell they are using extremely cheap wines especially when you lo some of them up and find they can be bought for under £2 a bottle. Such a rip off. I will stick to spending extra to have a good quality wine or wait for my friend to send them from his vineyard once aged. Don't bother if you like a good wine, I suppose these would be ok for people who do not have a matured pallet to red wines. I cannot comment on the white as I cancelled my membership. never again

alas we all have a choice and you seem to be judgeing it all on one lot of wine what a shame. l find the wine tops and the choice of wines are large. my advice to you is keep your comments to youself and accept others have a choice.

“Utter incompetence (I hope. The alternative is worse)”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Parsonshl289 on 28/01/2015

Placed my first order on Jan 20 with a paid for and deferred delivery date with the wine showing as in stock and available. Used an introductory voucher as it was my first order. Contacted 8 days later to be told they'd sold out of it and couldn't fulfil the order. To add insult to injury was offered a more expensive wine with a derisory additional discount from it's already overhyped price which was claimed to be analogous to the one no longer available. When Amarone is a similar substitute for a Napa Cabernet then that's the day I switch to spirits as my palette is clearly shot. I cannot for the life of me understand how a company as large as Laithwaites (as it is they behind the website facade) cannot track stock correctly from a website order. If it was that my website order coincided with a telephone order for the last of the stock, why did it take 8 days to inform me of such? I can't help but feel that someone made a decision to bin my order due to the use of the voucher, just a feeling as I say. Utter incompetence and an appalling introduction to their service.

“terrible delivery service - Sunday Times Wine Club”

★☆☆☆☆

written by tshires on 24/02/2012

Ordered before 8am on the day before the delivery was required. Website said order before 2pm and pay extra 8.99GBP to get it guaranteed the next day, which we did. It was a last min present for a friend's 50th. The following Sunday evening we recieved an e-mail saying that the delivery was 'On it's way'. What transpired thereafter was a disrespectful list of e-mails. First up was an e-mail appology and a refund of the 8.99. Not good enough considering that we only used their service because of the next day delivery option. Finally when we had explain how disappointed we were they said they would send champange and a letter. Still not recieved those. Terrible money grabbing service. They brush you off once they have your cash. Delivery was close to a week not the next day as promised and paid for. AVOID. At the same time ordered flowers from M&S for next day delivery. They did exactly what they said they would do. Recommended.

“Poor service”

Do not, I repeat, do not use The Sunday Times Wine Club. If things go wrong they will not correct their mistake. They delivered my wine to the wrong address and ignored my letters of complaint.

“Couldn't care less”

written by radishroot2002 on 03/12/2011

Despite me ringing 3 times & requesting a call back - no-one rang me back. In the end I went with Tesco (who were smashing) Sunday Times Wine Club's arrogance is staggering. We are in the middle of a recession, yet they simply cannot be bothered to off even the most basic level of customer service. I will never bother with this joke of a company again.

“I waited 3 days and after numerous promises my wine...”

I waited 3 days and after numerous promises my wine never arrived. I expect they use cheap couriers, take too many orders and are unable to full all of them. Absolutely incompetent.
