Lousy customer service! Don't bother trying to email questions because they will never get answered. Whilst working the software is fine but when it goes wrong you're on your own. Very resource hungry so don't expect much in the way of performance from other applications as Norton grabs most of your system resource.

lets face it, norton antivirus is nearly as bad as some of the malicious software its supposed to be protecting you from. It is constantly popping up telling you about threats that it is stopping, telling you to do this and that. I feel sorry for all the people who got this junk pre installed on their PCs, and shame on the manufactures for being associated with it. I got ESET nod 32 now and it just quietly humms away in the background, no more annoying norton popping up all over my screen

My advice: DO NOT touch this software. There is far better free software available I think. Used excessive system resources. Didn't stop or detect all viruses. eg. Computer was running VERY slow slow so removed Norton. Instantly loads faster, ran a FREE anti-virus and found several major worms, trojans.

This came on my HP Sempron, but I have generally ignored it until one year later when I moved it to be my internet PC. This is the version with full virus checking. I had a strong incentive to stick with it as I did not want to have to uninstall it and find another product. When I started having troubles I wondered if it was somehow me, and popped into this site. Having seen it scored 1.1 out of 10.0 I was inclined to believe that these were real difficulties. For a start the console does not really work. I did not want to have Norton scan my outgoing mail, so I selected the option to stop this. To make sure I went on to stop "all" virus scanning completely, but this made no difference and Norton continued to scan everything, even though it said it was not. The same is true with the firewall and internet security, which was always on regardless of what it said the status was. This was irritating as Norton slowed things up. I load a JPG from my disk to edit and I have to wait while Norton scans it.
I tried really hard to keep this product, hoping it might somehow come right. The final straw was when I installed a Windows security update and found I could no longer receive mail, as it failed to connect to the server I had been using for years (all tweaks tried, including "off" with Norton to no avail.)
I finally lost patience and removed it from my system. Magic! now my PC can pick up my mail, and also my PC now runs very smoothly. no more waiting to read my own documents pending a "Request for virus scan". This is probably the most satisfactory software installation change I have ever made.
By the way, I run a software developer company and am a long term engineer, so am not a newbie. This currently gets my "worst ever" rating for any piece of software ever.

I bought and installed this product the moment it came out, being a fan of Norton IS 2005, I put in the disc clicked install upgrade and the install started, I've got to admit it was quicker than I expected and soon my computer had restarted and I was awaiting to try out this long awaited "masterpiece". Though I quickly found, it was not what I hoped for.
Yes, the control panel may be easy to use, but what good is that if it takes 5 minutes to load. Its not as though my computer is rubbish, 2.7GHz processor, 1 GB Ram 250GB HDD, and yet Norton IS just ate all my processing power up. My computer ran so slowly after the install, that I thought something had gone seriously wrong.
So I borrowed a friends computer and googled this anomaly and found this was a common complaint among other users and after a few weeks I got sick of the sluggishness of my computer and uninstalled Norton IS 2006 and bought Kaspersky IS instead.

I thought that when I purchased a new computer that I would also try a new Internet security product. I now wish that I hadn't bothered. Although the installation procedure is easy enough it takes a very long time to install and run for the first time. However installing this program is not the main problem. Once it is installed it then takes a lot of resources and tends to dominate your PC instead of working in the background. With constant pop up messages it becomes really annoying. The result of all this was to uninstall it from the PC and install NOD32 from eset in it's place. I would never ever install another Norton product on the basis of this experience.

There are more efficient products available - check them first, and put this at the bottom of your list.
I bought an upgrade to AV2006 from AV2005 as it was cheaper than subscribing for another year's updates. Big mistake!
Norton AV2006 was slow to install, and the activation process didn't recognise my existing registration/account with Symantec, so I had to create another. The initial update was a 20Mb download which took longer to install than download. It took two reboots before everything was fully installed, and the first full virus check could be run.
Everything is now installed, but I find it keeps unnecessarily reminding me of its presence. Hiding or removing the annoying SysTray icon does not seem to be an option.

DO NOT buy any of the 2006 Norton products. You can get lots of better security applications out there that are cheaper, and better. Now I use Avast. Avast found viruses within Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security as well as a few more viruses and spyware, that NIS and NAV never found before

The sealed packaging does not make it clear Symantec Norton Internet Security 2006 is for use on one computer, and not computers in the same building. It took 2 days to get the activation reset after a virus it let through kept cancelling the activation
I had used Norton since 2002 never again
I would not recommend it to anyone

I bought Symantec Norton Internet Security 2006 before checking the reviews. I figured Norton was a primary player, so their product must be good, right?
WRONG!!!
I've wasted several hours trying to get this product to load and to activate. Then when I went to erase it, it wouldn't even unload properly.
A complete waste of time and money.

I removed Norton System work 2002, Norton Antivirus 2004 and Norton Firewall 2004.
I replaced these with Norton Systrem Works 2005 and Norton Internet Security 2006.
The effect was dramatic. It stopped all business in my company for more than 5 days followed by a further 10 days recovery.
This program is extremely bad news.

I have installed Norton Internet Security 2006 and thus far have suffered very little slowdown and excellent protection. I understood that this software was a little hungry for resources and expected a significant decrease in performance but I cant see any. Good program, competitive price, I guess its a case of horses for courses.....
