“Value for money”

★★★★★

written by allan_manhire on 16/06/2013

This is a very reliable car. It is not a Ferrari or Range Rover, however, provides enough space for a family of five. The bad points is it is loud and the windscreen pillars provide an obstruction, however, you will soon get used to it. It is without doubt, one of the most reliable cars I have owned. The parts are cheap and easy to find. If you start assessing yourself which is the most popular MPV out there, thus, you will see more of these cars than any other MPV. This is for a reason, these cars are really good and I highly recommend them. Apart from the above negatives, this car is brilliant, has tons of space (feels like a 7 seater) and good on insurance.

“Why did I wait so long?”

written by mark3para on 03/11/2011

Just bought a 53 reg 2004 Picasso 2lt hdi..122700 miles covered for £1800..and do you know what i love it..came with part history but proof of belt change at 97k but no proof of service since..was told it had belonged to a citroen mechanic who had done it all diy..to be safe i had a major service done..first thing my mechanic said after serviceing it was how well it had been maintained and it was in great condition..happy days..today had a tuning chip fitted and now returns another 25bhp and 50lbs torque...now has comfort, practicality AND strong performance with economy! Excellent for long trips with the family from Northumberland down to the IOW where we have family...get a good one, get it chipped and enjoy!

“This 2L Citroen Xsara Picasso was a Dixons ex-dem car,...”

★★★★★

written by on 23/09/2010

This 2L Citroen Xsara Picasso was a Dixons ex-dem car, ease of access onto the higher seating was a major bonus, time proved the car was capable of almost any task, being in SX trim I had little luxuries built in, armrests, tables etc. One minute it was a comfortable, roomy 5 seat limousine capable of holding motorway speeds all day without stress, next with seats out it was being loaded with a complete bathroom suite from Wickes [and the tailgate door shut]. It developed a major fault with the ERG valve within warranty but apart from having to change the drivers door central locking unit, nothing since, its been a truely reliable trooper. Typically the diesel engine is reluctant to fire in bitterly cold weather, common to almost all makes, as it spins too slow on the starter, but eventually it starts, if you are on snow the strong idle speed in lower gears will usually keep you moving without touching the throttle, the heater is very slow at warming the cabin but air con aids demisting. Fuel economy on the 2 litre is excellent nudging 60 mpg on a leisurely drive, although I have only just covered 30,000 miles in my ownership the dreadful conditions of Britain's roads has taken its toll on the suspension which now is getting a bit noisy also there is a lot of plasticy creaking developing in the cabin, I am in two minds whether to change cars or not, the Picasso owes me nothing, it is still a good reliable beast of burden, road tax is cheap at £115 pa, and it has sunk as low as it can in devaluation.
I would recommend this vehicle to anyone, it is perfect for a growing family, a DIYer, a taxi almost any application, and, as they are no longer in production there are bargains galore out there, just be sure its a diesel for cheap tax and good fuel returns.
Just thought of the biggest problem with this car, its hard work washing the roof !

Overall a good car, very comfy, very good performance for a diesel (2.0 HDi) considering it only has 90bhp, loads of space, massive boot etc. Only let down by digital dash gremlins. My wife absoluotly adores it and so do I!

ive had my Citroen Xsara Picasso SX 2.0 HDi since 2004 now, and its never let me down. such a brilliant car, cheap to run and keep maintained. has very high miles now but that clearly isn't an issue for this car, it will still be running just as good in 10 years time. i fully recommend this car.

Brought my used Citroen Xsara Picasso used which was a 2001 2.0 sx hdi model, for a very reasonable price. Changed cars as I was looking for a family car which was bigger than my previous but didn't want a huge 'people carrier'. I was surprised to learn that this car was classed as one as it doesn't look huge from the outside and has a nice modern design. I had reservations as I didn't like the the idea of a family people carrier and didn't want a frumpy 'people carrier' but, I have been very pleasently surprised by this car. Kids love all the extra room n the back, extra passengers love having an actual seat in the middle. I love the big open windscreen, thought I would feel like I was driving a bus but it actually drives, parks and maneouvres better than my smaller car. great digital display. I feel this particular model is very good as it is deisel and very cheap on tax and insurance. Most economical, modern looking people carriers, would definately recommend as a 'family car'.

About three or four years ago, after a while looking for cars, we turned our eyes, from the Toyota Avensis to the Citroen Xsara Picasso and it immediately struck us as a good car.
It was large but still not large enough for high tax, the middle seat in the rear was an actual seat(!) and finally, the fact that it was a diesel.
This large car offers plenty of legroom, a good seat pitch and great storage.
It's a good car! - Get it!

Bought my Citroen Xsara Picasso SX 2.0 HDi people carrier new in Nov 2001. Extras included climate control and alloys. No problems to date 32,000 miles. Returns average of 49 mpg, cruises at 70+ on M-Way. Although only 90BHP if driven correctly is no slouch.

A great car for little money, all passsengers comment on the space inside and the high up poistion gives great view of traffic ahead.

having had a c5 i now have a Citroen Xsara Picasso SX 2.0 HDi people carrier, they are brilliant cars - I will only buy citroen nowadays - value for money safety and comfort are my priorities. As i suffer from chronic back problems i must have comfortable supportive seating and a smooth ride which i get driving citroen cars - Maybe i could get all this with a bentley but the trouble is I cant afford one, for the money you just cannot buy better than a citroen.

Best £11,200 i ever spent. The Citroen Xsara is a brilliant all round family car and would thoroughly recommend buying one. I hardly have to fill the tank up at all as the fuel economy is excellent, the space is brilliant inside the car as well as the huge boot space.

★★★★★

written by Cawarra. on 31/03/2002

Bought the itroen Xsara Picasso SX 2.0 HDI in July 2000 and have just passed the 30,000 mile mark. All we have paid for is fuel and 2 services (Oh, and a battery for the remote blipper-£3.16). I have always had Citroens and this ones first journey was to the Auvergne. What a pleasure compared to cramming us all in the old ZX's. The space, the air con, the smooth diesel purring along straight French roads...bliss. Even turned heads over there at that time. The front pillar is a bit awkward at times but no big deal and the seats could be a little more supportive but overall very pleased.

written by morairaman. on 22/12/2001

The Citroen Xsara Picasso has to be one of the finest cars I have bought. Superior in comfort to anything I've had in the past, like sitting at home in your armchair. Auto aircon is set and forget.
In gear acceleration good. Turbo response is good.
Returns 51+ mpg at decent road speeds and acceleration.
Seat removal is easy, presenting you with volumes of space. With one rear side seat removed, it is possible to sleep laid flat, diagonally across rear floor area.

I totally agree with all the comments made. And speaking from experience Ihave achieved 56 mpg just like the manual say`s but have yet to try out the constant long run to get 61 mpg. one last point, the got recieved 4* in the eurocap tests as one of the worlds safest cars and is also the uk`s biggest selling mini mpv.
