I Bought 3 Pairs Of Jeans From Union Newcastle. Ea

I bought 3 pairs of jeans from Union Newcastle. Each cost over £100 each. The staff were very very helpful. I explained what I wanted and they made suggestions. A free alteration service (1 hour service) was provided. After second visit I was given a discount on my purchase. Top Marks.

I Had Heard Before That Union Clothing Did Not Eas

I had heard before that Union Clothing did not easily give out refunds, fair enough you may think if they don't offer a no questions asked returns policy like some large chains, but this is verging on illegal!

My trouble started after I got a really nice shirt as a present from there, after wearing it twice and washing it once I noticed some of the stitching was coming away, the shirt had stitching woven through the whole of the shirt. There was one main area on the front where it was coming away as well a few other areas on the back and shoulders. So I headed into Newcastle back to Union expecting to get a refund or a swap or something, however the man serving said he did not deal with returns so I left the shirt with them to loom at and get back to me. Now this first struck me as strange but I went along with it. A few days later a rather rude woman rang back saying I could not have a refund as I must have had a belt or bag rubbing against the shirt causing damage. As I had not had a bag on me the two times I wore the shirt, and that I wore the shirt hanging over my jeans, the outside (where the fault was) did not come into contact with my belt.

I went back to the shop and spoke to the manager who refused point blank to offer me anything, I had with me the Sales of Goods Act which he said he knew inside out as he had been in this business 20 years, so I asked him to explain why I could not get a refund under the Act, to which he seemed to laugh off. He then said that the shirt had been washed in a faulty washing machine, which had caused the problem! (The washing machine used was less than six months old and had never caused a problem with anything else)

At this point he produced the shirt which he said they had repaired! They had taken out the frayed stitches with a machine, without my permission. Now the shirt looked OK but I knew it would just do the same again so I made it clear I was not happy and I would not leave until I had a refund (as I was entitled to) or an exchange as a compromise. At this point the manager threatened to call the police if I did not leave, I said I that would be fine, however he decided not to call them and we came to a compromise that the shirt would be sent to the manufacturer.

The shirt was sent back to the manufacturer. It was returned saying they did not see an immediate fault but " they cannot say for sure if there is a fault as Union had altered it" so it would be a matter between myself and the retailer"

As I have better things to do with my time I have not got round to going back to the shop (the shirt has begun to fray again) and now feel it is probably too late as I no longer have my receipt. A very bad experience!

Whilst we appreciate the customers frustration at the outcome, we acted in good faith and worked with the manufacturer to settle this dispute, as a small independent business with 22 years trading we pride ouselves on good customer relations and will always refund customers if the fault is genuine. we wish the customer well for the future, Union Clothing
