Good Points Its a LAND ROVER!!! Bad Points Its a LAND ROVER!!! General Comments I've had a 200Tdi & a 300Tdi & a 300 V8 NOW I have a TD5 .....TOTALLY CHUFFED TO NUTS WITH IT ..... Had Water in the Fusebox cost £300 to replace ....... SO WHAT!! .. I LOVE THE DAMNED THING ..Will drive it until the wheels fall off... As I put in the Tit;le its a GO ANYWHERE/DO ANYTHING Vehicle .. it would pull down a House & then turn around & go back & STOMP ON THE BRICKS !!! As it says on my rear window ..... "JEEP RECOVERY VEHICLE" .. Enough said!!!

Had disco 2 Td5's in the family since they were new and none have ever missed a beat. You hear of horror stories but honestly I think it has more to do with the lack of maintenance. Bought one for myself this year for chips thinking it would be a flogged crock and sure it had been given a hard life but you wouldn't know it. Everything works on it, heaps of power since its been chipped. I use mine for towing race cars around when others use built trucks, then spends the other half of its life traversing the family property with insanely steep rocky spurs (Hill decent control) and washed out boggy tracks. Just make sure you buy one with centre diff lock or have it installed, works great with factory traction control. Seriously even at top dollar they are still a bargain considering how much luxury 4x4 you get for the money! Can not recommend the series 2 diesel enough.

JUST ABOUT TO BUY MY 5TH LANDROVER, (I LOVE EM )I WONT GO BACK TO A ORDINARY CAR AGAIN .
IN MY DRIVING CAREER SO FAR IVE OWNED A DEFENDER 90 - P REG DISCOVERY 300TDI (ARDEN)- N REG DISCOVERY 1 V8 - 02 DISCOVERY TD5(AUTO)AND FOR MY LATEST PURCHASE YET ANOTHER DISCOVERY TD5 (MANUAL)
THEY ARE ,IN MY OPINION ONE OF THE SAFEST CARS ON THE ROAD TODAY , RIDE HEIGHT 12 INCHES HIGHER THAN ORDINARY CARS SO YOU CAN SEE WHATS HAPPENING 3 OR 4 CARS IN FRONT OF YOU.
THIS CAR HAS EXCELLENT ROAD MANNERS AND IS MORE THAN CAPABLE OFFROAD ( TRY THE TIPS OF SCOTLAND WHERE THE ROADS RUN OUT AND YOULL SEE WHY I LOVE THEM SO MUCH .
THE AMOUNT OF POTHOLES APEARING IN THE ROADS THESE DAYS IT WONT BE LONG BEFORE EVERYONE IS DRIVING A 4X4 DISCOVERY .

We love our defender 130, our 1985 110 and the most recently purchased vehicle, our disco 2 td5 millennium from 2000. All vehicles are great to drive in and we have fallen in love with LR in general!!!!!

I have had a 200 and a 300 and now I have the TD5 ES. The previous landrovers were ok but the TD5 is in a different league. I have had one break down in it on the way to cornwall whilst towing my caravan from leeds, turned out to be a collapsed hose to the intercooler which cost £ 140 fitted on site.It pulls my caravan which is a twin axle with five bikes and five people on board. It uses a tad more juice when towing. The TD5 engine has far more gutts than the previous discoverys. Also the bodywork seems to be more resistent to corrosion than the older versions. I would most certainly bye another one, particularly the ES model with the aircon and leather seats. The only fault I have found is the sunroofs leak which I have rectified. Otherwise no problemo.

I can't speak highly enough of my Series II Disco SE7 Td5(similar to the ES7 spec without sunroof). Offroad in stock specification it continually outperforms Patrols and Land Cruisers. I have taken this car on two of the most arduous 4wd trips in Australia (Cape York then Simpson Desert, Oodnadatta etc) and it coped with the trips effortlessly. It never gets stuck and I have zero reliability issues to report. Raising the airbag suspension has saved me from embaressment a couple of time and the ride on (with ACE) and off the road is second to none. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Series II Disco Td5 to anyone (MY03/04 is the best buy).

The discovery td5 is the only vehicle I have found that can carry off so many jobs so effortlessly. Whether it's towing 3T of materials, precarioussly driving on very steep and wet grass fields or just faithfully lugging around the family, it copes with all that is thrown in front of it with great capability and grace. The most complete 4x4 there is.

I strongly agree, I have recently bought a Land Rover Discovery 2003 HSE, full option, It is the best car I have ever had, and I love it. It is tuned, and now goes up to 264km/h, because of Hamman tuning station

The new Land Rover Discovery TD5 looks great. Currently driving a Pajero but will definitely get a Disco next largely because it has permanent 4x4, whereas driving in 2x2 with Pajero requires stopping to switch to 4x4, something one can't easily do, say, on a motorway when there is sudden heavy rain. The only real 4x4 is a permanent 4x4 like the Disco or Defender, and that is where Land Rover excels.

I bought a Landrover Discovery Tdi in March 1992. I still own the vehicle and it has completed 129,000 miles. It has towed trailers, and carried me and my family safely through thick and thin on snow and ice covered roads and through flooded areas. I have used it to launch and recover my boats and used it almost as a van i.e. loaded to the gunwales with goods. In all that time the only problem I encountered was: A mist appeared on the rear screen whilst still in warranty. I stopped and saw that fuel was spraying from the fuel return pipe. The rubber pipe had been cut so short on each of the returns that it made an acute angle at each endand had split as a result. I noticed that the windscreen washer pipe was a similar diameter and cut a length from the passenger side. I replaced the pipe and drove home without incident. I took the vehicle back to the supplying garage and they were intrigued as my vehicle was apparently one of the first of the so called 'modified versions' to have suffered the problem. That was over ten years ago. I have had no problems since. I am only just on my third set of tyres, third set of brake pads, and still the original clutch. I was going to trade it in for a new Discovcery some years ago but then read an article in 'What Car' which gave a buy recommendation for my model and year, so I kept it. I will no doubt have to replace the vehicle sometime but I just hope that I get another Landrover Discovery that will serve me so well. I have never ever owned any car for more than a few years previously so at year eleven that is also a record. I really suppose I must enjoy the old girl.

I have owned many large four wheel drives including Toyota Land Cruiser, Nissan Patrol & Holden Jackaroo (Isuzu Trooper).
Before purchasing my Land Rover TD5 ES Disco I was intending to purchase a Mercedes M Class diesel, but after a road test there was no contest.
The Disco stands far ahead of the competition and has shown no sensitivity to the hot dry Australian climate.
I change cars every 3 years & my next will definitely be a Disco or possibly the new model Range Rover.

The only reason I did not buy the Merc ML is the higher price. It performs much better than my Landrover Disc 5TD with better climbing ability, torque, top speed etc.

Hi David from another Aussie.
<br>I too Have owned a number of Landcruisers and Patrols. I have just purchased a 2003 TD5 and so far, very happy. Build quality definately not up to Toyota standard, loose screws ETC, but great to drive and has personality. Mike

David - I would tend to agree with you with regards to the ML. I currently own a 2000 Reg Td5 commercial with 45,000 on the clock. I feel if you want the best of both worlds (ie off road and motorway) the only machine is an Audi allroad. The 2.5Tdi (180Bhp)Tiptronic is the prefered option. For offroad you cant beat the Td5 ...

However I must clarify that the Mercedes ML is not in the same class as the Discovery. The ML is a luxury SUV more intended for coastal boulevards and country tracks that real off-roading - just look at the lack of ground clearance and low profile wheels on an ML. Off roading the ML would actually lag behind the Discovery.

I'll also say when new they were wayyyyyyyyyyyyy ahead of their time in advanced technology. Stuff like common rail diesel, HDC, air supension self leveling, the efficiency of the ABS! Things Land Rover had developed on the RR.
Sure some brands had this stuff but very primitive basic versions of it. Discoveries had it fully fledged! Land Rover should go back to those days and start making Landies we all liked and used offroad!
