I have owned this 2000 Land Rover Td5 GS since April this year with only 70,000 miles on the clock and it has had three major breakdowns. Two weeks after collecting the car from the dealer all the electrics went haywire and the Fusebox under the dash had to be replaced - expensive. Two weeks later it had to go back to the dealer for a new Turbo and to get the rear sunroof fixed (common problem?). This was done FOC. I have now just replaced the water pump and top hose after having been plagued by problems with the cooling system and have just found out that the head gasket has gone and when that gets replaced they recommend that the Cylinder Head is replaced as well. Fortunately, I do have some Insurance to cover part of this bill but I'll still end up well out of pocket. What's next?
This is my 4th Discovery but it will be the last Land Rover that I'll buy.

I will never buy or own for free any Land Rover product ever again - we have spent and lost fortunes in the mistaken belief that we couldn't be so unlucky again and we were.
Even when using a brand new R/R whilst in Saudi it overheated and could not cope with the sand, A/C failed several times, no joke when its 38c outside. They are overpriced, of questionable quality, unreliable, and lose value faster than a concrete submarine on it's last dive. I know one chap who has had 3 R/R before he got his money back - Land Rover Ltd you will never see any more of my hard earned greenies again, bye bye.

I had a 1993 Land Rover Discovery TDi for several years and was impressed by its off road ability. In July 2005 it broke down 5 times within the month so I traded it in for a TD5 ES7. Unfortunately, the new car cannot even cope with flat wet grass !
Land Rover have had the car back but cannot find anything wrong and are at a loss. I am left with a very expensive, ON-road, exectutive toy.
DON'T BUY ONE !

We bought our Land Rover Discovery TD5 ES 4x4 in July of 2002 since then it has had 2 new gearboxes, not bad for a car with only 22k miles on the clock. It starts by becoming difficult to select any gear when it is cold then you get excessive vibration up through the gear stick (no I do not drive with my hand resting on it),and finally you end up with just a couple of gears that you hope will get you home, incidentally, when it first failed I contacted L/R assist who said that as I still had some gears they would not recover it and I should drive it to my main dealer!

I bought a TD5 ES7 brand new in March 2001. It was delivered with an oil leak from the gearbox. The rear windows did not work, and I found various nuts and screws in the door pockets! It has been off the road due to defects for 15 days and it has taken 18 months to put all faults right. This is my third Disco. Each time I say that I will never buy another. After spending £35K+ on the last one I will now stick to my guns!! Am now looking at Landcruisers and Merc ML range

Sure, Landcruiser is a good alternative to Land Rover, but if you want a "real 4x4", avoid the Merc ML, BMW X5 or Lexus RX, they are "street 4x4"s and too soft for the real tough stuff.

Sure the Land Cruiser is a better car..Much better built..BUT.. The Disco has far more character than the Land Cruiser will ever have.. I don't want to degrade either of the two by comparing them to the beforementioned soft-roaders..

Excessive vibration 2300rpm, several engine and drive shaft changes made a small improvement but harshness still very evident. Vehicle was off the road for nearly one year while dealer attempted to get parts to fix it, they are still unable to fix it.

Always bought Isuzu, can't understand why you have bought so many when you kept having the same problems? Surely after the first one you should have given it up as a bad job?
