No one likes spending money on insurance - in fact a whole industry of ridiculous advertising has strung up to try to convince us that we can have it all and still pay peanuts. If anyone is silly enough to go for that approach then that is their business, but I would rather pay a little more and use a company that doesn't spend a fortune telling me they are cheap - so they effectively have to scrimp on the actual cover. It not until you actually have a claim that you realise your silly Meerkat or Opera star insurance isn't worth what you thought. I have, unfortunately, just had a to make a claim with Hiscox and (although I have never reviewed anything) I felt moved to commend them publicly for the top notch service I received. The call centre staff (all UK based I believe) were friendly, calm and patient (which is just the tonic during a time of heighten nerves). Processing of my claim was quick (other than some signed paperwork through the post office) and painless, and they have the very welcome knack of making you feel like you are the only claim they are dealing with. Given the circumstances I don't think I could have had a better experience and higher premiums pale into insignificance within this bigger picture.
