I usually buy a credit report from Equifax once a year or so, and have been doing that online since 2004 with no problems. I last accessed my report on 6th December 2011. On 6th Feb, I noticed that there was a charge of £6.99 against my debit card. Looking back, I saw another one from January and one from December too. There was nothing in my Equifax profile or "products" area to suggest that I was subscribed to any service, but eventually in the FAQ I found that accessing your report DOES in fact now subscribe you to some sort of monthly service! To add insult to.. well... insult... you can only cancel by telephone. I have now cancelled (yet, amazingly, they tried to sell me yet another service!!) and I will never use the Equifax online service again. Truly shocking.

Hi I have just managed to find the TELEPHONE NUMBER FOR UK EQUIFAX, it does work - you dial 0844 335 0550 - this does go through to india, but ask to be put through to the UK and they will.

I still have to cancel the 'free' trial, but fingers crossed and they may put the willies up a debt agency who have breached every consumer act and totally messed up my credit rating!
