I Have Been Going To Willie Smarts For 12 Years No
I have been going to Willie Smarts for 12 years now in the crystal Palace branch, I have had several hairdressers over the years.i am a shy and quiet person. My issue is a class one, I am quite glamorous in the way I dress and I go to the gym and do running, so I wear a lot of gym clothing ( leggings and crop top ). I have very long hair and always get highlights, and ends trimmed. My hairdresser recently left, so I was given someone else. Basically I have always got the vibe she doesn't like me, she does my cut and hardly speaks to me. Because my old hairdresser was only a colourist, I only get a cut once a year btw.
Now she has left, the not so lovely lady showed me how much she liked me.
I came into the salon and she showed me to the chair and said don't take your jacket off. I said it has fur on the collar and will get in the way. So I too it off, straight away she said are you not cold? I said well I am now, referring to her frosty manner.
I was wearing gym leggings and a long-sleeved crop top. I tried to make conversation, weather, covid etc..
She just didn't reply to me. It was extremely awkward, I was sitting in the chair for 3 and half hours and she never spoke to me. When my hair was left for the colour to take, she cut another clients hair, talking non stop to that client though.
When she was doing my highlights she spoke to her colleague next to us very loudly about chavs and they were both laughing. More like cackling.
Also her colleague who has long hair herself, kept saying my hair is too long , I need a cut, i look like a witch and was asking my hairdresser and then her other colleagues to cut her hair, btw she was in the middle of cutting a clients hair while saying all this.
I noticed she kept looking over at me and smirking and my hairdresser was smirking to.
Hairdressers, especially Willie Smarts don't like long hair, they are always wanting to cut hair short.
It's a business, short hair styles need to be maintained every 6 weeks.
Because I have long hair, and still growing it, my cut is once a year.
So my long hair is not profitable for them.
So the chav and witch comments were directed at me, so obvious.
It's bullying and unprofessional.
I'm going through a very bad time in my life and have depression, so this bullying was so not needed.
The only thing she said to me while drying and styling my hair was your hair is so tangly. Well it's long and just had bleach on it, so it will get tangles.
When I left the salon i was very upset, and decided I will not be going back.
Of course that is what they wanted.
So anyone who is glamorous and shows a bit of skin I advise you do not come to Willie Smarts. Also they charge way too much for the service you get, and the salon needs to be modernised badly!

Cut And Colour
I was warmly welcomed into the salon, staff were friendly. i was very pleased with my highlighs and trim. this was my first visit to the salon, I would definitley return.
Poor Work
Outside can be looks fab! But it is expensive the people is so slow to work and with a pessimist actitud, I think I payed to much only because i was there not because they work properly and professionally! didn't want to give tips as i think it's included in the expensive price and not well done

Variable
Been going here from time to time for years and have had my hair cut by a number of different stylists. With one or two exceptions, I have been pleased with the cuts. The ones I was less happy with weren't disasters by any means - just not exactly what I wanted.
However, the service is variable. I generally find the people washing my hair quite rough and instead of being pleasant, having my hair washed has been really quite painful (and I'm not a wimp)
I have also found some of the stylists have an unpleasant manner. I am quite shy and quite and found some of made me feel quite uncomfortable which is a bit sad when you're paying a fair amount for their services. The reason I still go though is that it's in a convenient location and the cuts are good.
Terrible Service
I recently moved to the area and tried willie smarts in crystal place after reading good reviews but I definitely won't be going back. The first time I went in for a colour consultation and found the person I spoke to quite abrupt and not very friendly but I thought that may have been a one off, so I recently went in for a fringe trim to give them another go. The girl on reception was lovely and showed me to a seat, but then someone came over to cut my fringe, didn't say hello, proceeded to cut far too much off even though I asked her to keep it long, then just walked off without saying anything. I have been left with a fringe I hate and a bad experience, so I will not be going back.
I'm not surprised you experienced such hostility from Willie Smarts stylists.
It's even worse now then it was back then, the owner seems to employ stylists that are rude and unprofessional.
They only want a certain clientel in their salon, major class prejudice!!!
Read my review, explains my bad experience with them!

Best Hairdressers
Been going to Willie smarts Clapham common for the past 2 years. I have had many bad experiences with other hair dressers but finally found the best of the best. I have blonde hair and they use aveda products the result is really natural. They have a really friendly team and atmosphere. They really listen to you so you get the result you want. I have moved from Clapham but still go back there. Highly recommended!!

Willie Smarts,crystal Palace
It is always stressful going to a new hairdressers, but the experience here was really good. From the first tint test, through colour, cut etc the staff were unfailingly cheerful, pleasant & friendly.
I liked that my stylist made some positive suggestions, which I was happy to adopt & I was really pleased with the end result. The quality of Aveda products is always good & staff seemed to have a good knowledge of them
The one negative is that the salon itself looks a little tired.

I have recently moved to West Norwood and have just started going to Willie Smarts in Crystal Palace, but I used to go to the one in Clapham and felt compelled to leave a comment because i have had nothing but good experiences in both salons. The staff are always very friendly and welcoming, it's not overpriced, and the products they use are really nice. It's relaxed but still feels trendy, and it's not stuffy or pretentious. I often get comments about how nice my hair looks after i've been and I have recommended them to many of my friends - I wouldn't go anywhere else.
